Year 8 French Revision Summer 2017

The Exam will consist of 4 papers in each of the four skills:

Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing, each skill earning a


maximum of 25%

COMMON ENTRANCE Speaking Examinations will take place during the week
beginning 15th May 2017 and will be conducted by the pupil’s usual French
Teacher.
The Speaking Examination consists of one Role-play, a Prepared Topic and an
Unprepared Topic.

COMMON ENTRANCE Listening Examination will take place during lessons on the
morning of Tuesday 16th May 2017.

COMMON ENTRANCE Reading Comprehension and Writing Papers will take place
during the week beginning Monday June 5th 2017.

Topics you should know:


Grammar and Structures to revise:

 Colours and agreement of adjectives with the nouns


 The verb avoir and the verb être
 The 24 hour clock: (21 heures 45, etc.), the 12 hour clock (4 heures et quart, 5
heures moins dix, etc.)
 School subjects
 Asking basic questions using quel, où, que, comment, etc.
 Saying where you live and talking about what you can do in your area
 Sports and activities, talking about likes and dislikes
 The present tense of er, ir and re verbs/the negative
 Present tense of some irregular verbs: aller, faire, pouvoir, vouloir
 Physical description of people and some adjectives to describe their personality:
timide, gourmand, maladroit, paresseux, travailleur
 Talk about family and pets
 Names of countries in Europe and The United States, using en and au
 The adjective possessive: mon, ma, mes, ton, ta, tes, son, sa and ses
 Talk about jobs: boucher, chauffeur de taxi, coiffeur, docteur, infirmier, with the
feminine equivalents/places of work
 Prepositions: à côté de, en face de, derrière, devant, sous, sur, entre
 Food and drinks/the partitive: du, de la, des
 Clothes and colours
 Aller chez, à la, au, aux à l’

 Talk about the house, rooms, basic furniture
 Directions: Pour aller à la ... Tournez à gauche, allez tout droit, prenez la troisième
rue à droite, traversez la place, etc.
 Means of transport: Je vais au collège à pied, en voiture, etc.
 Asking for some items in a shop. Talking about prices in Euros.
 Talk about the daily routine using reflexive verbs: Je me lève à 7 heures, je
m’habille, je me lave, je me couche
 The weather: Qu’est-ce que tu portes quand il fait chaud? or Qu’est-ce que tu fais
quand il pleut, etc.
 Talk about holidays
 The perfect tense with avoir and être and with er, ir and re verbs
 Talk about where you went, with whom and what you did during your holidays
 Talk about how it was, using c’était
 Talk about the weather in the imperfect: il faisait froid, il pleuvait, il y avait du
brouillard

Vocabulary” book as well as from your green “French Speaking” book.

ASSESSMENT OBJECTIVES

The examination will test candidates’ ability to:


AO1 show an understanding of the spoken language dealing with a range of
familiar topics, and identify and note main points and specific details, including

AO3 show an understanding of a number of printed items, ranging from short,
