LECTURE 7.pptx

The document outlines engineering drawing exercises for B. Tech./M. Tech. students at IIT BHU, focusing on the interpenetration of solids. It includes three specific problems involving the projections of various geometric shapes such as prisms, cylinders, and cones. Each problem requires drawing the projections and lines of intersection based on given dimensions and orientations.

ME- 104: Engineering Drawing
Interpenetration of Solids

Sheet No: 7 Time Allotted – 4 Periods

1. A vertical square prism, base edges 40 mm and height 70 mm rests on its base on HP. It
is completely penetrated by a horizontal square prism, base edges 30 mm and length 80
mm such that the axes of the two prisms bisect each other at right angles. The axis of
horizontal prism is parallel to the VP, while the faces of both prisms are equally inclined to
VP. Draw the projections of the solids, showing lines of intersection.
Solution:
2. A right circular cylinder of diameter 80 mm and height 90 mm, is resting on its
base on HP. It is completely penetrated by another cylinder of diameter 60 mm and
100 mm long such that their axes bisect each other at right angles and parallel to VP.
Draw their projections showing curves of intersection.

Solution:
3. A vertical cone, diameter of base 75 mm and axis 90 mm long is penetrated by a
cylinder of 50 mm diameter, the axis of which is parallel to and 10 mm away from that
of the cone. Draw the projections showing curves of intersection, when the plane
containing the two axes is parallel to the V.P.
