BIOSECURITY PROTOCOL

1. Access Control:
• Fencing and Signage: Implement fencing to restrict access to the farm
site and use signage to indicate restricted areas and biosecurity
protocols.
• Visitor Log: Maintain a visitor log to track all personnel entering the farm
and their activities.
• Controlled Entry: Ensures all visitors and service personnel follow
procedures for disinfection and changing into farm-specific clothing and
footwear.
• Shower and Change Facilities: Provide designated areas for showering
and changing before entering the farm.
2. Sanitation and Disinfection:
• Vehicle Disinfection: Implement vehicle washing and disinfection
procedures, particularly for vehicles entering the farm.
• Footbaths and Handwashing: Provide and enforce the use of footbaths
with disinfectant solutions and encourage handwashing with soap and
water.
• Equipment Disinfection: Clean and disinfect equipment, tools, and
containers between uses.
• House Cleaning and Disinfection: Regularly clean and disinfect poultry
houses, including removing litter, cleaning walls, and disinfecting
surfaces.
3.
• Mortality Disposal: Implement proper procedures for disposing of dead
birds to prevent disease spread.

4. Disease Surveillance and Control:

• Early Detection: Establish a system for early detection of disease
symptoms in birds, including monitoring for signs.
• Reporting: Establish a system for reporting suspected disease outbreaks
to appropriate authorities.
• Vaccination: Implement a vaccination program to protect against
common poultry diseases.
• Postmortem Examination: Perform postmortem examinations of sick
birds to identify the cause of disease and ensure appropriate treatment.
5. Pest and Wildlife Management:
• Pest Control: Implement measures to control rodents, insects, and other
pests that can carry diseases.
• Wild Bird Control: Implement measures to prevent wild birds from
entering poultry houses and contaminating feed and water.
6. Training and Communication:

• Employee Training: Educate all farm staff about biosecurity measures,

including the importance of quarantine protocols, to ensure proper
implementation.
• Clear Communication: Establish clear communication channels for
sharing biosecurity information and procedures with all personnel and
visitors.
7. Feed Management:
• Storage: Store feed in a manner that prevents access by wild birds and
rodents.
• Prevention of Spillage: Clean up spilled feed immediately to avoid
attracting wild birds and rodents.
Examples of Biosecurity Measures:
• Restricting access to the brooding area to authorized personnel only.
• Using designated clothing and footwear for entering the brooding area.
• Disinfecting hands and equipment before and after handling birds.
• Regularly cleaning and disinfecting poultry houses.
• Properly disposing of dead birds (mortality).
• Monitoring for disease symptoms in birds and reporting suspected
outbreaks.
• Implementing a vaccination program to protect against common poultry
diseases.
