22 Given, ABCD is a trapezium where AB || DC and
diagonals AC and BD intersect each other at O.
We have to prove, AO/BO = CO/DO
From the point O, draw a line EO touching AD at E, in
such a way that,
½
EO || DC || AB
In ΔADC, we have OE || DC
½
Therefore, By using Basic Proportionality Theorem
AE/ED = AO/CO ……………..(i)
Now, In ΔABD, OE || AB Therefore, By using Basic Proportionality Theorem
DE/EA = DO/BO…………….(ii)
1
From equation (i) and (ii), we get, AO/CO = BO/DO
⇒AO/BO = CO/DO Hence, proved.
OR
As we can see from the figure, DOB is a straight line.
Therefore, ∠DOC + ∠ COB = 180°
½
⇒∠DOC = 180° – 125° (Given, ∠ BOC = 125°)
= 55°
In ΔDOC, sum of the measures of the angles of a triangle is 180º
Therefore, ∠DCO + ∠ CDO + ∠ DOC = 180°
⇒∠DCO + 70º + 55º = 180°(Given, ∠ CDO = 70°) ½
⇒∠DCO = 55°
It is given that, ΔODC ~ ΔOBA,
Therefore, ΔODC ~ ΔOBA. 1
Hence, Corresponding angles are equal in similar triangles
∠OAB = ∠OCD
⇒∠ OAB = 55°
∠OAB = ∠OCD
⇒∠OAB = 55°
23 Given sec θ = 13/12 Calculate all other trigonometric ratios ½
Solution:
We know that sec function is the reciprocal of the cos function which is equal to the ratio of the length ½
of the hypotenuse side to the adjacent side
½
Let us assume a right angled triangle ABC, right angled at B
sec θ =13/12 = Hypotenuse/Adjacent side = AC/AB ½
Let AC be 13k and AB will be 12k
Where, k is a positive real number.
According to the Pythagoras theorem, the squares of the hypotenuse side is equal to the sum of the
squares of the other two sides of a right angle triangle and we get,
AC2=AB2 + BC2
Substitute the value of AB and AC
(13k)2= (12k)2 + BC2
169k2= 144k2 + BC2
169k2= 144k2 + BC2
BC2 = 169k2 – 144k2
BC2= 25k2
Therefore, BC = 5k
Now, substitute the corresponding values in all other trigonometric ratios
So,
Sin θ = Opposite Side/Hypotenuse = BC/AC = 5/13
tan θ = Opposite Side/Adjacent Side = BC/AB = 5/12
⇒πR2=π(12)2+π (5)2⇒πR2=144 π+ 25 π ½
1
⇒πR2= 169 π ⇒R2=169 ⇒R =13 Radius of thecircle =13 cm.
Section C
= (3x – 4)(x + 1)
1
Therefore, zeroes of polynomial equation 3x2 – x – 4 are (4/3, -1)
Sum of zeroes = (4/3)+(-1) = (1/3)= -(-1/3) = -(Coefficient of x) / (Coefficient of x2) 1
Product of zeroes=(4/3)×(-1) = (-4/3) = (Constant term) /(Coefficient of x2 )
Therefore,therelationshipbetweenzerosandtheircoefficientsisverified.
22–4y=16–2y⇒ 2y=6⇒y=3 1
Substitutingy=3inequation(1), weget,
x=22–4(3)⇒x=22–12⇒x=10
Therefore,fixedcharge= Rs 10 andadditional charge= Rs 3 per day 1

Let us consider, Speed of boat is still water = x km/hr AND Speed of current = y km/hr ½
Now, speed of Ritu, during, Downstream = x + y km/hr
Upstream = x – y km/hr
As per the question given, ½
2(x + y) = 20
Or x + y = 10……………………….(1)
And, 2(x – y) = 4
Or x – y = 2………………………(2) 1
Adding both the eq.1 and 2, we get,
2x = 12x = 6
Putting the value of x in eq.1, we get,y = 4
Therefore,Speed of Ritu is still water = 6 km/hr AND Speed of current = 4 km/hr 1
29 Consider a parallelogram ABCD which is circumscribing a circle with a center O. Now, since ABCD
is a parallelogram, AB = CD and BC = AD.
From the above figure, it is seen that, ½
(i) DR = DS ½
(ii) BP = BQ
(iii) CR = CQ
(iv) AP = AS
These are the tangents to the circle at D, B, C, and A
respectively.
Adding all these we get, ½
DR+BP+CR+AP = DS+BQ+CQ+AS
By rearranging them we get, ½
(BP+AP)+(DR+CR) = (CQ+BQ)+(DS+AS) ½
Again by rearranging them we get,AB+CD = BC+AD
½
Now, since AB = CD and BC = AD, the above equation becomes2AB = 2BC∴ AB = BC
Since AB = BC = CD = DA, it can be said that ABCD is a rhombus.
Section D
32
Let us say, the base of the right triangle be x cm. Given, the altitude of right triangle = (x – 7) cm
½
From Pythagoras theorem, we know, Base2 + Altitude2 = Hypotenuse2
∴ x2 + (x – 7)2 = 132
⇒ x2 + x2 + 49 – 14x = 169 1
⇒ 2x – 14x – 120 = 0
2
⇒ x2 – 7x – 60 = 0
⇒ x2 – 12x + 5x – 60 = 0
⇒ x(x – 12) + 5(x – 12) = 0
1
⇒ (x – 12)(x + 5) = 0
Thus, either x – 12 = 0 or x + 5 = 0,
⇒ x = 12 or x = – 5
Since sides cannot be negative, x can only be 12.
Therefore, the base of the given triangle is 12 cm and the altitude of this triangle will be (12 – 7) cm
= 5 cm.
OR
It is given that Distance = 360 km
Consider x as the speed, then the time takent = 360/x
If the speed is increased by 5 km/h speed will be (x + 5) km/hDistance will be the same
t = 360/(x + 5)
Time with original speed – Time with increased speed = 1
360/x – 360/(x + 5) = 1
LCM = x (x + 5)
[360 (x + 5) – 360x]/x(x + 5) = 1
360 x + 1800 – 360x = x (x + 5)
x2 + 5x = 1800
x2 + 5x – 1800 = 0
x2 + 45x – 40x – 1800 = 0
x (x + 45) – 40 (x + 45) = 0
(x – 40) (x + 45) = 0
x = 40 km/hr
As we know, the value of speed cannot be negative.Therefore, the speed of train is 40 km/h.
