Here are some of the most common questions people ask about the afterlife and the Eternal

State, as described in the Bible:

1. What happens immediately after death?

• For believers: The Bible teaches that believers go immediately into God’s presence (2
Corinthians 5:8, Philippians 1:23, Luke 23:43).
• For unbelievers: They go to a place of conscious separation from God (Luke 16:22-
23).

2. Will we recognize each other in heaven?

• Yes! The Bible indicates we will retain our identity (1 Corinthians 13:12, Matthew 17:3-
4).
• Jesus was recognizable after His resurrection (Luke 24:39-43, John 20:27).

3. What will our resurrection bodies be like?

• Philippians 3:21 – We will have bodies like Jesus’ resurrected body.
• 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 – Our bodies will be imperishable, glorious, powerful, and
spiritual.
• We will not experience pain, aging, or death (Revelation 21:4).

4. What will we do in eternity?

• Worship and serve God (Revelation 22:3-4).
• Reign with Christ (Revelation 22:5).
• Possibly continue learning, creating, and exploring (Revelation 21:24-26).

5. Will there be time in eternity?

• Revelation 22:2 mentions the Tree of Life yielding fruit every month, suggesting a form
of time.
• Time may function differently, since we will not experience decay or waiting.
6. Can people sin in the Eternal State?
• No. Revelation 21:27 – Nothing impure will enter heaven.
• Our wills will be fully aligned with God (1 John 3:2).

7. Will we have free will in heaven?

• We will still have free will, but our desires will be fully perfected in Christ.
• We will have no temptation to sin (Revelation 21:4, 22:3-5).

8. Will we remember our earthly lives?

• Isaiah 65:17 suggests that past troubles will be forgotten.
• However, we may still remember God’s grace and His work of redemption.

9. Will we know what is happening on earth?

• Some passages suggest awareness (Revelation 6:9-10, Luke 16:27-31).
• However, it’s unclear how much knowledge the saints will have of earthly events.

10. Will we see our loved ones again?

• If they were believers, we will reunite with them (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).
• The focus in heaven will be on Jesus first, but relationships will still exist.

11. What will heaven look like?

• The New Jerusalem will be a magnificent city (Revelation 21:10-27).
• It will have streets of gold, gates of pearl, and foundations of precious stones.
12. Will there be animals in heaven?
• Isaiah 11:6-9 describes animals living peacefully in God’s kingdom.
• Revelation 19:11 speaks of Jesus returning on a white horse.
• While we can’t say for sure, there’s reason to believe animals will exist in the New Earth.

13. What will relationships be like in heaven?

• Marriage as we know it will not exist (Matthew 22:30), but we will have perfect
relationships with all believers.
• Love and community will be greater than ever before.

14. Will we eat and drink in heaven?

• Yes!
o Luke 24:42-43 – Jesus ate after His resurrection.
o Revelation 22:2 – The Tree of Life produces fruit.
o Matthew 26:29 – Jesus speaks of drinking the fruit of the vine in God’s
kingdom.

15. Will there be work in heaven?

• Yes, but it will be joyful and fulfilling (Revelation 22:3-5).
• Adam and Eve worked before sin entered the world (Genesis 2:15), so work itself is
good.

16. Will we sleep in heaven?

• The Bible doesn’t explicitly say, but since there is no night (Revelation 22:5), sleep may
not be needed.
• However, if sleep is part of God’s good design, it could still exist.

17. Will heaven ever get boring?

• No! God is infinite (Psalm 16:11), and we will never exhaust the joy of knowing Him.
• Ephesians 2:7 says God will show us the riches of His grace for eternity.

18. What is the difference between "heaven" and the "New

Earth"?
• The New Earth (Revelation 21:1-2) is the final eternal home for believers.
• Heaven now is where God’s presence is, but after judgment, God will dwell with us in
the New Earth.

19. Will God create new things in eternity?

• Possibly! God is a creator, and the universe may continue expanding (Isaiah 65:17).
• He will make all things new (Revelation 21:5).

20. How should we live now in light of eternity?

• Colossians 3:1-2 – Set our minds on things above.
• 2 Peter 3:11-13 – Live holy and godly lives.
• Revelation 22:12 – Jesus is coming soon, so we should be ready.

21. How will there be no night and no sea in the Eternal State?
The Bible specifically states:

• No Night: “There will no longer be any night, and they will not have need of the light of
a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illuminate them; and they will
reign forever and ever.” (Revelation 22:5, NASB)
• No Sea: “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first
earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.” (Revelation 21:1, NASB)

Why Will There Be No Night?

1. God’s Glory Will Be the Light

o In the Eternal State, God’s presence will be the source of all light (Revelation
21:23).
oThe sun and moon will no longer be necessary because God’s radiance will
illuminate everything.
2. Symbolic of Eternal Safety and Life
o Night often represents danger, sin, or separation from God (John 3:19-20, 1
Thessalonians 5:5).
o The removal of night signifies a state of perfect security and holiness.

Why Will There Be No Sea?

1. Symbolic Meaning of the Sea in the Bible

o In ancient times, the sea represented chaos, danger, and separation (Psalm
74:13-14, Isaiah 57:20).
o In Revelation, the beast rises from the sea (Revelation 13:1), symbolizing evil
forces.
o The absence of the sea could symbolize the removal of all evil, danger, and
disorder.
2. A New Earth May Have Water but Not Vast Oceans
o The Bible does not say there will be no water at all, just no "sea".
o The River of Life flows from God's throne (Revelation 22:1), suggesting water
still exists.
o The lack of oceans may mean the New Earth is fully inhabited, unlike our
current planet where oceans cover 70% of the surface.

Will There Be Some Form of Water?

• Yes! The River of Life (Revelation 22:1-2) shows that water will still exist, just not in
vast, chaotic seas.
• The removal of the sea does not mean no beauty or aquatic life, but rather that the New
Earth will be perfected and restored.
