Coral reef facts
When you look at a coral reef, you might think that you are seeing a group of colourful

Why is the Dead Sea So Salty?
The Dead Sea is located in a valley between Jordan and Israel. It is the lowest point on
Earth and has no outlets, meaning water flows in but does not flow out. Over time, water
evaporates, leaving behind high concentrations of salt and minerals. This is why the
Dead Sea has a salt concentration of around 34%, much higher than ocean water.
Because of its high salt levels, people can float easily on the surface without sinking.
However, this extreme salinity also prevents fish and aquatic plants from living in the
water. Only a few types of bacteria can survive in such an environment.
In recent years, the Dead Sea has been shrinking due to human activities. Water from
the Jordan River, its main water source, has been redirected for farming and drinking
purposes. If no action is taken, the Dead Sea may continue to shrink in the future.
