PREFACE
Differentiation is a crucial aspect of calculus which provides
tools to examine and comprehend the dynamics of change of functions.
Applied to algebraic functions, that is, those mathematically expressed
by basic operations addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and
root extraction, concepts in differentiation become practical problems
solving tools in the world and within mathematics itself.
This topic deals with the methods of computing the derivatives of
such types of algebraic functions as polynomial, rational and root ones.
These processes enable the determination of the change rates, and the
optimization of solutions as well as other aspects of systems modeled
using algebraic relationships.
From the first and simplest power rule to its successors such as
the quotient rule and the manipulation of implicit algebraic relations,
this discussion specifically addresses the ways and the means algebraic
structures can be used in differentiation.
We also attempt to show the use and the need of differentiation in
physics, engineering, economics and many other fields, which are the
applications of the theory explained in the examples. For those who
encounter calculus for the first time and for those who revisit its basic
notions, completing differentiation of algebraic functions means
approaching the goal of conquering broader areas – the mathematical
picture of the world.
