Solar System Detailed
The Solar System is a vast and complex collection of celestial bodies that orbit our central star, the
Sun.
It consists of eight planets, their moons, dwarf planets, asteroids, comets, meteoroids, and the
interplanetary medium. The planets, in order from the Sun, are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars,
The Sun, a G-type main-sequence star, contains over 99.8% of the Solar System's total mass. Its
immense gravity keeps all other objects in orbit. The inner planets (Mercury to Mars) are rocky and
terrestrial, while the outer planets (Jupiter to Neptune) are gas giants or ice giants.
The asteroid belt, located between Mars and Jupiter, is filled with rocky remnants from the early
Solar System. Beyond Neptune lies the Kuiper Belt, home to many dwarf planets like Pluto, and
The Solar System formed about 4.6 billion years ago from a rotating cloud of gas and dust. Through
processes of accretion and gravitational collapse, planets and other bodies gradually formed.
