ELEMENTARY Goals for 8 weeks

WEEK 1

READING/WRITING/GRAMMAR

Students will
 demonstrate proficiency in the following grammatical areas (to be, present simple & subject / object /
possessive pronouns; adjectives)
 read a variety of short texts
 locate information and answer knowledge based questions (yes/no, true/false, wh- questions)
 write a series of simple phrases and sentences linked with simple connectors (and, but, because, so, or)

LISTENING&SPEAKING

Students will
 listen to short and extended dialogues and find the main point in short, clear and simple messages
 practice basic dialogue forms
 communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information
(personal information, daily routines, likes/dislikes, hobbies, family)
 answer questions at recognition level

WEEK 2

READING/WRITING/GRAMMAR

Students will
 demonstrate proficiency in the following grammatical areas (there is/are; un/countable nouns, present
continuous; prepositions of place, time)
 read a variety of short texts
 demonstrate an understanding of a text by answering wh- questions and reference questions (pronoun
reference)
 analyze paragraphs by identifying parts of a paragraph, finding irrelevant sentences, ordering,
completing paragraphs
 use simple descriptive statements about people, pictures, places

LISTENING&SPEAKING

Students will
 listen to short and extended dialogues and find the main point in short, clear and simple messages
 practice basic dialogue forms
 communicate in information-gap tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information (e.g.
picture description, etc.)
 answer questions at recognition level

WEEK 3

Students will
 demonstrate proficiency in the following grammatical areas (past simple – all forms)
 use modals (can, must, have to, should) to express ability, possibility, permission, obligation and
advice
 read a variety of short texts
 demonstrate an understanding of a text by answering wh- questions and reference questions (pronoun
reference)
 analyze paragraphs and practice writing topic, supporting and concluding sentences
 identify and define unfamiliar words in a text by vocabulary guessing techniques
 work on vocabulary development with emphasis on parts of speech
 write basic descriptions of past events

LISTENING&SPEAKING

Students will
 listen to short and extended dialogues and find the main point in short, clear and simple messages
 find specific information in listening texts to answer basic comprehension questions, match
information, fill in charts, etc.
 produce simple narratives
 communicate in various tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information (e.g. past events,
people, dates, etc.)
 engage in basic dialogues regarding obligations, rules, problems & solutions (advice), etc.
 express opinions in a simple way

WEEK 4

READING/WRITING/GRAMMAR

Students will
 demonstrate proficiency in the following grammatical areas (past continuous)
 use modals (had to, could) to express past ability, obligation
 read a variety of short texts
 demonstrate an understanding of a text by answering wh- questions and reference questions (pronoun
reference)
 identify and define unfamiliar words in a text by vocabulary guessing techniques
 work on vocabulary development with emphasis on parts of speech
 practice outlining
 write basic descriptions of past events, actions

LISTENING&SPEAKING

Students will
 listen to extended dialogues and find the main point in short, clear and simple messages
 find specific information in listening texts to answer basic comprehension questions, match
information, fill in charts, etc.
 produce simple narratives

development with emphasis on parts of speech
 practice outlining and write descriptive paragraphs (people, place, events)
 use appropriate linkers and conjunctions to describe sequence

LISTENING&SPEAKING

Students will

 find specific information in listening texts to answer basic comprehension questions, match
information, fill in charts, etc.
 make comparisons and express degrees of difference (e.g. charts, pictures, etc.)
