Ethical Misconduct
Ethical misconduct prevalent in workplace
Internal Auditor, Dec, 2005 by A. Millage 1 2 Next »
DESPITE AN INCREASE IN the number of formal ethics programs in the workplace, ethical
misbehavior is on the rise. According to a recent survey by the Ethics Resource Center (ERC),
more than half of 3,000 U.S. workers polled have observed at least one type of ethical misconduct in
the past year.
The 2005 National Business Ethics Survey (NBES) sought workers opinions on workplace ethics
trends, the implementation and impact of formal programs, the ethical culture of organizations, and
factors that pose risks of misconduct. The ERC has conducted four such surveys in the past 11 years.
This year s findings reveal that although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We know formal programs are critical and work well initially, but we must now focus greater
attention on building the right culture in which programs operate. This data shows, for example,
that management needs to lead by example and set the right tone throughout the whole organization.

Ethics in the workplace many challenges remain

[pic]
But if they have the ringside seat to the real way that things get done, how do workers feel about the
integrity of organizations they work for today?
According to a nationwide study tracking integrity in the workplace, the results are mixed, and
indicate a number of challenges to business leaders. The study conducted by Walker Information in
July 2001 surveyed 2,795 American workers in organizations with at least 50 employees and in all
industry sectors, including government and non profits. It also compared results to those gathered in
1999 to evaluate trends.

Employee views of integrity at work have changed little in two years. It should be of great concern
that only about half of all American working adults (49 percent statistically just a notch higher than
47 percent in 1999) believe their senior executives are people of high integrity. Only slightly more
Reflective Introduction To Cinema
The larger majority of the Introduction to Cinema 2366 course was viewing films. Subsequently,
the films we viewed in the class have affected me in four gifts of the humanities. As a student, my
interests have developed around the social issues of classism and racism in America. Therefore, the
course has given me food for thought via films which tackle social issues causing me to rethink the
ways I understand these issues as well as understand filmrhetoric to gain a deeper knowledge of
how society understood these problems. Cinema also allows viewers to gain a sense of the past,
this is especially true of the course since the films we ve watched were opened 1959 or before. In
this way, I have been able to understand historical events (such as the dust bowl, the great depression
, and the red scare) through characters who are relatable, causing me to understand that though time
and geography may differ between me and these characters, there exist timeless truths of humanity.
The course has also allowed me to extend myself intellectually. Before enrolling in this course, I
had little knowledge about cinema and its place in our society. The course has provided me with a
new found appreciation for the art of film which is an important subject in academia rather than just
an elective. Lastly, I have realized the idea of the infinite person, via this film course. Through the
films viewed in class, I have found myself relating to characters I regularly would not have. For
Geographical Impact On Human History
History can be defined in many ways and is told differently by hundreds of historians throughout the
world, but one common connecting thread in the definition of history is that it tells the story of how
human life came to be what it is today. History is the research, analysis, knowledge, and
documentation that tells the people of the world what came before them that allows them to live
their life the way that they do in this time period. Because the world that came before now is such a
vast period of time and space, it is important to understand the smaller, but still quite monumental,
factors that shaped human historyand culture. Geography is one of those factors. Through
geographical impacts such as climate change, rivers, and fertile land,... Show more content on

Like in Mesopotamia, the beginning of civilization and settlement in Egypt also began with a
climate change. This change, during 5000 4000 B.C.E., caused the deserts in the Sahara to form,
forcing people towards the Nile River, which provided a strong support system to the community.
This could be seen in the effects of the annual flooding of the river. According to The Making of
the West, This predictable annual flood enriched the soil with nutrients from the river s silt and
diluted harmful mineral salts, thereby making farming more productive and supporting strong
population growth. Because the Nile was the main life source for the Egyptian population, it
became a large part of the Egyptian culture as well. This can be seen in the Hymn to the Nile
written around 2100 B.C.E., which celebrates the Nile as a life giving and seemingly supernatural
power. Not only did geography influence the agriculture of Egypt, but also the religious practices of
it s people. The impact on geography on history is undoubtedly illustrated in the major impact of the
Nile on the life and culture of the
Discrimination and Hate Crimes
From what I have identified on hate crimes in my research, the top two motivations for hate
crimes are based on race and sexual orientation, In 2010 s FBI report, of the 7,690 reported
incidents, 48. 4 percent of the crimes were racially motivated attacks, with sexual orientation bias
coming in second at 19.1 percent. (DL Chandler,2010) Two of the best examples of these crimes
are the James Byrd and Mathew Shepard cases in 1998. These crimes prompted the enactment of
the Hate Crimes Prevention Act that was signed by President Barack Obama in 2009. Although the
crimes are both very horrific and morbid acts in their own right, they were based on different types
of hate racial and homophobia. The James Byrd Case was racially motivated... Show more content on

Byrd died after his right arm and head were severed after his body hit a culvert. His body had
caught a sewage drain on the side of the road, resulting in his decapitation. (HRC 2014) Police

discovery of his body. CNN reported All three suspects have prison records, and authorities have
said that at least two have the tattoos of white racist prison gangs. Racist literature also was
seized from their homes. (CNN 1998) These two men were John King (King) and Lawrence

such as Aryan Pride, KKK. Tattooed on their bodies were riddled with racist and Nazi symbols as
well as gang symbols with well known racist gangs. The third guy, Shawn Berry ( Berry), didn t
have the racist background and was determined not to be racist in court and because of his
cooperation as a witness to the crime was given a lesser sentence. Shawn Berry, was charged with
murder and given a life sentence for his part in the murder; Brewer, and King were both tried on
capital murder and were sentenced to the death penalty. Brewer died by lethal injection in
September of 2011, his last words before his execution were, I feel no remorse and would do it all
over again. (DL Chandler 2012). King is still exhausting his appeals but is still on death row in
Texas. This case is very
The Inheritance Of Loss By Kiran Desai
Colonialism phenomenon is one of the aspects in life that has significant impact towards people s
values, feelings, beliefs and experiences. The effect of past colonialism lasts in modern lives, and

domination and its cultures. Indigenous people internalized colonizers values in almost every aspect
of their lives including the way of thinking, education, social system, culture, economy, language,
and so on. Colonizers values denigrate the values, moral, and even physical appearances of formerly

Canterbury Tales And Beowulf Essay
The stories of Beowulf and The Canterbury Tales are two that have been compared for centuries.
Based in two different time periods, both novels describe religion, loyalty, and distinguish social
classes through characters. In the novel Beowulf, the character Beowulf is known as the hero of all
heroes, strong, courageous, and a warrior who is willing to risk his life for his ideals. In The
Canterbury Tales, there are twenty four tales describing characters from a knight to a monk s tale.
As the stories are written in two different time periods with different themes and voices, they can be
compared in many ways. Both novels describe religion through their warriors, Beowulf and the
Knight from The Canterbury Tales. The novel Beowulf was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Three of Chaucer s tales are written with a central Christian theme, the Prioress s Tale, the Second
Nun s Tale, and the Parson s Tale. The Prioress s Tale is said to be about a miracle of the Virgin
Mary, the Second Nun s Tale is a biography of Saint Cecilia, and the Parson s Tale is considered a
sermon. Just as The Canterbury Tales shows a theme of Christianity, it also shows a theme of
religious corruption. In the tales of the Friar, Prioress, Pardoner, and Monk, corruption of the
church is shown and influences each character in a different way. In the Friar, the focus is on
money, horses, and the responsibility of his monastery. But, the Friar also seduces women and
provide them with a spouse to stay out of trouble. In the tale of Prioress, Chaucer describes her as
too busy being a court lady to take care of her nunnery. In the Pardoner, he takes advantage of
others by taking money for giving pardons for the sins of others, even going as far as selling
relics. The Monk takes money for forgiveness, refuses to help the poor, and pays other beggars to
leave so he can attain all of the money from that area. He does all of this while he is supposed to
be pledging his life to poverty and those less fortunate. Chaucer shows a theme of Christianity just as
he shows a theme of religious corruption. As
Poultry Farmers In America
I understand that your food products are extremely popular across the country, especially your
chicken products. I am writing to you about your treatment of the farmers that are raising your
chickens. What you do to these farmers is unacceptable and needs to stop immediately. Your actions
have caused hundreds of chicken farmers across the country to struggle financially and emotionally.
You need to change the harsh criteria you put on the farmers, the process by which you decide
which farms get bonuses and pay cuts, and you need to increase the wages these farmers receive in
the first place (Nelson and Kaptur). The system in which you punish farmers for not obeying your
exact instructions is inhumane. Many chicken farmers live below the... Show more content on

If you do this, these farms will be able to meet your requirements more easily and they will have
increased success in producing chickens. Since this industry brings in substantial amounts of
money, I think there should be no problem with paying these farms more. Americans eat chicken
every day and the farms who raise them should be rewarded for their hard work. No chicken farm
should be making less than $50,000 annually. Raising the wages will solve many of the unfair
issues within this industry and it will improve the farmers well being as well as your
Compare And Contrast River Valley Civilizations
Civilization didn t always start out the way it is today. There was a lot of bloodshed and
conquering of other societies and cultures. As it is, civilizations didn t even emerge until around
3500 BCE. Before agricultural civilizations were formed, there were early agricultural societies that
had different beliefs and ways of living. When civilizationemerged, so did many rulers and empires.
Some of these empires were better than others and some were just downright awful. There are also
many cultures and beliefs from these historical empires that have stuck in today s modern society.

Zoroastrianism, became a major religion and it s the belief that people pick one of two sides and
then let a final judgement decide their fate. This religion became much more spiritual than the Greek

The Red Tails: Their influence from the ground and up. Being the first of anything is never easy,
especially when you are representing a whole race. Knowing this, it was difficult for the Tuskegee

as the first African American pilots in history. They served from 1943 1945, collecting marvelous
records and earning great respect for their performance. But most importantly, the Red Tails helped

The continuing inefficiencies caused by segregation so hampered the training efforts of the 477th
that it never obtained full strength before the war s end and was thus never assigned to combat.
(McLaurin Melton 1032). Segregation was a major limiting factor of Black aviation, however,
through pressure from several directions, the American Air Force yielded and created one of the five
fighter groups, which was a great advancement. When the African American fighter groups finally
graduated from Tuskegee University, with great pride and courage, they proved that African
Americans are capable of doing anything other can do. The Tuskegee Airmen graduated from
Tuskegee University and formed 4 all black squadrons which would merge to become the 332nd
squadron in Spring of 1943. When they were given their first mission to strafe the island of
Pantelleria, they did not fail. In jaded, old P 39 and P 40 aircrafts, documented by the national

many different states including, Ohio, Philadelphia and in Pittsburgh where he work all over the

interact with well know artist. A changing point in Cole s life that in my opinion that had a big

In this painting we see an infant that is in a boat. Behind the infant there is an angel that is guiding
the child out of a cave into a beautiful landscape. Thomas Cole paints the landscape very rich; you
get o a sense of warmth and calmness. There is beautiful green land, big mountains, and different
types of flowers.
According to the website Exploring Thomas Cole, there are different types of allegories in this
painting. The first allegory is the hourglass that is in the boat. The hourglass is meant to represent
time, the second allegory is the river, which is meant to represent the stream of life, and the third
allegory is the flower, which is an Egyptian lotus, which Cole described as symbolical of Human
Life. Finally the cave that the infant and the angel are coming out of according to Thomas Cole
is an emblematic of our earthly origin, and the mysterious Past. Cole uses different types of light
and dark colors it gives the painting a different look, the light colors fade and so does the dark
colors, this is called chiaroscuro. Perspective was also used in this painting; different parts of the
painting have different sizes giving us a sense of depth.
The second painting, Youth, painted in 1842, oil on canvas, 53 in × 76 in, continues to have a
beautiful green landscape, we still see trees, flowers, mountains, and now we see a castle in the
back. In this painting the view is widening. The child from the last painting now looks like

Telstra Agency Problem
The agency problems or conflicts are continuously happening between the principal and the agent. It
particularly arises when an interest conflict occurs between the principal and the agent. In terms of
finance, there are two core agency relationships; managers and stockholders and managers and
creditors. To balance the interests and satisfactions between managers and stockholders which helps
firm to improve performance, there are a variety of different measures have been generated and

To be specific, the two performance measures demonstrated by Telstra in the FY13 LTI Plan are
RTSR which account for 50 percent related to share price performance and RCF RIO which also
stand for 50 percent relevant to the investment. It may help executives to consider investment for
higher return rather than achieving higher customer satisfaction (Telstra Annual Report, 2013. P.
51). However, the majority of large or small enterprises operate business successfully with building
strategy and programs based on customers demands. For example, the mobile manufacturers set
wireless and 3G option for smart phones as customers expect to access the internet more
conveniently. Thus, understanding the expectations of customer effectively prevents company from
losing market share.
In terms of long term incentives, Telstra only offers share bonus for executives that can potentially
inducing executives to focus on short term benefits particularly for those are under contract (Telstra
Annual Report, 2013. P. 51). On the contrary, cash rewarding may motivate executives more
effectively. However, it can brings some potential risks for company if executives decide to
participate in high level risk programs to acquire short term benefits which will finally damage
company s long term value. Moreover,
