Phineas Gage Case
Article Summary
Should criminals with brain defects be held legally responsible for their criminal actions? Advances
in what scientist is able to learn about the brain through imaging, has changed how the legal system
thinks about this query. We know now from various types of advancements in brain scan imaging
that the brain of a psychopath looks different than the brain of a non psychopathic brain. These
defects are thought to be responsible for the personality and actions of the psychopath and some
believe these defects are just as responsible for the criminal actions of the psychopath as well.
However, while behavioral science may look at the brain of the psychopath and seek explanations
for the antisocial and aggressive personality traits in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What we do not understand from these case studies, however, is why the same brain deficits do
not lead to the same actions from people affected. Phineas Gage and Antonio Damasio became
unlikable people, but neither became criminals. Yet, our former Marine went on an
uncharacteristic killing spree explained by his brain lesion. These case studies make scientist
question if the ability to exercise self control is also damaged when these areas of the brain are
defects. While the criminal justice system was once black or white guilty or innocent there are
shades of gray because of our new ability to see the damaged areas of the brain and better
understand how this factor can impact criminality. Of the 60 70% of defendants found not guilty by
reason of insanity, the majority was diagnosed with a mental illness, but 10% were found NGRI
because of their brain
Comparison Between Blood And Belonging
Michael Memis
October 23, 2016
English P8
If there was a book that had every unwritten rule in society, even the obvious ones, the book would
be as big as the Bible! While some unwritten rules are obvious or not helpful, many of the rules
that aren t followed by people all the time will help that person belong in society. In the book
Blood and Belonging, the author states To belong is to understand the tacit codes of the people you
live with. It basically is saying that a person has to follow the unwritten rules of society if they want
to be treated like they belong. The unwritten rules are still helpful today and though many places
have different ones, many of them are universal.
One occasion where unwritten rules are helpful are when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Hills Like White Elephant By Ernest...
E.B. White once said, There s no limit to how complicated things can get, on account of one thing
always leading to another. This quotation means that nobody ever knows how complicated things
are going to get, and on top of that they can get worse. One can agree with this statement because in
life you can go through unexpected situations that really affect your life in a negative way, and in
life things might get worse. Both Soldiers home by Ernest Hemingwayand Hills like white elephants
by Ernest Hemingway support the idea that Life is a complicated place. He portrays this through
his main male characters of both of his story s, The American and Harold, they both try to find
the easiest way out of complicated situations. To begin the novel shows that Hemingway portrays
life as a complicated place through his main character The American. Ernest portrays men as the
dominant sex in all of his writings. In Hills like white elephants The American is faced with a
complicated situation, such as Jig being pregnant. The American wants Jig to have an abortion
and is giving her no choice by cornering her, making her feel like having a child isn t a good
thing. He states Of course I don t want anybody but you. I don t want anyone else. And I know it s
perfectly simple (Hemingway 2). He is pushing her to have the abortion by telling her he didn t
want anyone but her. When in reality he just didn t want her to have the baby. He was given a
difficult situation and tried to find the
Dog In The Nighttime Autism
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time is a book written by Mark Haddon, in a first
person s perspective from a fifteen year old boy named Christopher. Christopher has autism and
he lives with his dad, and no longer his mom because his dad told him that his mom had passed
away from a heart attack. One night on one of Christopher s midnight strolls, he passes by his
neighbor Mrs. Shears s house and sees her dog lying dead in the garden with a pitch fork sticking
out of him. Christopher then went on an investigation to figure out who killed the dog Wellington.
Throughout the story the reader learns about Christopher and things that he likes and doesn t like.
Every day on the way to school Christopher would look out the window on... Show more content on

While first starting the book, it was difficult to read because it is written the perspective of how
an autistic child/teen would think, or talk. Once a reader gets passed the initial difference in
writing technique, you learn that kids and people with the autism disorder don t have control to
why they do or don t like things, or have control of some of their actions. After reading this and
comparing it to personal experience of a family member that worked at a local high school with an
autistic student and the similarities and symptoms, it makes it clear that there are different parts of
the spectrum but if someone treats them normal and This book ended with a curiosity of what was
to happen next in Christopher s life. Would his parents eventually get back together and how
would his future lay out. He believes in himself now that he has accomplished all of these different
things that he can do anything. For a person, with a disorder or not but, especially with any
disorder to have that confidence that they can do anything, that is something every parent could ask
for. This book is definitely recommend especially for someone that is curious about learning more
about a young boy with this disorder, and up for a good
Native Americans And The United States
The United States as we know it, since its beginning has been based on immigration. Native
Americans traveled during the Ice Age through the Bering Strait and English settlers sailed the
Atlantic. Due to unknown reasons, most of the Native societies except for the Aztecs collapse before
the arrival of the Europeans, which gives shine to the English settlements since their attainment set
the roots of our society today. More importantly, it should be recognized the diverse cultures of
English settlers since it has set the precedent for the tolerance and freedom of expression that is
experienced in the United Statestoday. English migrated to the United States due to the lack of
freedom of religion in the Mother Land. This made the New World a setting with a mixture of
different religions that were persecuted in England. Each of the persecuted religious groups brought
different cultures and as a result settled in different regions of the American continent Atlantic coast.
These settlers were distributed through New England, the Carolinas, the Mid Atlantic, and
Chesapeake. Their differences in customs and terrain settled made for the success (or failure) of
each colony.
The first English settlements are what defined the new colonies of America. Before the English
settled in the land, America was pursued over by the Spaniards. Of the several colonies that were
established the first was the Jamestown colony by Puritans. After much struggle they were able to
conquer a large piece
