Advantages And Disadvantages Of Photodegradation
The applications of homogeneous photodegradation (single phase system) to treat contaminated
water, involves the use of an oxidant to generate radicals, which attack the organic pollutants to
initiate oxidation. The major oxidants used are:
Hydrogen peroxide (UV /H2O2)
Ozone (UV /O3)
Hydrogen peroxide and Ozone (UV /O3/H2O2)
Photo Fenton system (Fe+3 /H2O2)

1.2.1.4. Hydrogen peroxide

The use of hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant brings a number of advantages in comparison to other
methods of wastewater treatment. Commercial availability of the oxidant, thermal stability and
storage on site, infinite solubility in water, no mass transfer associated with gases. The most
accepted mechanism for this H2O2 photolysis is the rupture of the O O bond by the action of
ultraviolet light forming two hydroxyl radicals.
H2O2 + hυ 2 OH· (Eq.1.7)
A disadvantage of this process is that it cannot utilize solar light as the source of UV light due to
the fact that the required UV energy for the photolysis of the oxidizer is not available in the solar ...

In the contexts of history and research, interest in heterogeneous photocatalysis can be traced back to
many decades when Fujishima and Honda discovered in 1972 the photochemical splitting of water
into hydrogen and oxygen in the presence of TiO2 From this time, extensive research, much of it
published, has been carried out to produce hydrogen from water in oxidation reduction reactions
using a variety of semiconductor catalyst materials. With respect to a semiconductor oxide such
asWO3, photocatalytic reactions are initiated by the absorption of illumination with energy equal to
or greater than the band gap of the semiconductor. This produces electron hole (e−/h+) pairs as in

Sarah Kane Crave Analyse
My over arching idea for my production of Crave is that I want to give the play some context
while also maintaining the theme that these characters could represent anyone. The reason I
want to give the play some background is because on my first read of the play, before I read the
Saunders article in which Sarah Kane talks about the relationships between C and A, and B and
M, a lot of the themes of the play were lost on me because I was so focused on trying to figure out
what was going on. I know Sarah Kane didn t want the characters to get stuck in specific categories,
but by establishing relationships between the characters I think the audience will be able to focus
more on what the characters are saying and less on trying to discern what... Show more content on

I don t want the rest of the stage to be dark though, as that would isolate the characters when I
want them to talk to each other, so the rest of the stage is slightly dimmer then the spots. The tone
and color of the fill lights changes slightly throughout the show, following the color changes of
the cyclorama. The cyc is my central design element for the show. When I read Crave, it seemed
to me that the play was divided into different emotional sections, and I want to use the cyc to
reflect that. When the lights come up after the characters enter, I want the cyc to be a medium
dark purple, which I think helps give the feeling that the play is taking place in the city, which is
what I gathered from the dialogue. The purple should be dark enough that it gives the audience a
sense of unease, as each of the characters relate depressing tales and talk heatedly with one another.
When A begins his speech, I want the cyc to fade into a bright amber that assaults the audience s
eyes when it first appears. This symbolizes how upon first glance, A s speech appears happy and
innocent, which the color yellow is associated with, but that yellow is tainted with something
darker and sinister, making it amber. Then, when C mentions being raped, I want the cyc to fade
to a scarlet red, because this I think this marked the transition to the most violent part of the play.
Then when C says, No one can hate me more than myself , I want the cyc to start transitioning to a
medium blue. As the play continues, I want that blue to get continually darker, symbolizing the
characters sinking into despair. When B says Kill me , I want the cyc and all of the lights to fade
away, implying that the characters have passed away. Then for the last few lines of the play, I want
just the cyc to light up bright white, so you can only see the actors silhouettes. I want the audience
Sea Otters Case Study
Sea otters are a small mammal that lives in the waters along North America s west coast from
California to Alaska. A few years ago some of the sea otter populations off of the Alaskan coast
started to decline rapidly and raised several concerns because of their important role in the coastal
ecosystem. Experts began investigating and came up with two possible explanations. One
explanation was environmental pollutionand the second was attacks by predators.

At first it seemed as if the pollution was the most likely cause for the population decline. One
reason pollution was more likely was because of the known pollution sources along the Alaskan
coast such as oil rigs. Also water samples taken in the area showed increased levels of chemicals

Why did Jeanine attack the Abnegation? Why are half of the dauntless traitors? And most important,
why is Jeanine so desperately chasing the divergent? All and more of these questions need to be

he too has to be investigated under the truth serum. He is willing to be put under the serum too:
All right. Haul me away if you are so desperate. (Roth,227). In the end it turns out that Zeke was
really just pretending to be on the Erudite side to find out helpful information for his friends. In
this part of the book we also found out that Marcus and Peter are still alive. Four and Tris thought
both of them were dead after they didn t get out after the Erudite chased them on Amity land.
Now Peter is on the enemy s side and Four isn t very happy that his dad is still alive because
Marcus is pretending to be omniscient. Tris was the only one that was awake during the attack.
Why was that? It was because she is divergent. Everybody else was asleep but she wakes up. Tris
is very brave to go around a find out who the other awake divergent are, because she doesn t have

Essay about Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell
Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell

Few supervisors experience lack of respect and denunciation from workers because of their
positions in a company. Supervisors take actions to preserve the image of authority before
subordinates and from being ridiculed by their workers, even if the supervisors object these types of
actions. The essay Shooting an Elephant relates to this situation. The author of this essay is George
Orwell. The author talks about his work and personal experience that emphasizes the impact of
imperialism at the sociological and psychological stage. This paper shall discuss the Orwell s essay,
how the artistic choices shape the facts in the essay, how the relationship between facts and artistry

The referee, a Burman, would look the other way and the crowd would yell with laughter. This
happened more than once. The author claims the young Buddhist priests were the worst of the
group. All this was perplexed for Orwell, but in his mind he believed imperialism was an evil
thing. The author understood how the Burmese felt and was against the British s subjugation
ways (Orwell, 1996). His form of writing allowed his voice to come right out of the page to the
reader. There is one part of Orwell s mind that visualize British Raj as an unbreakable tyranny and
another part in his mind where the greatest joy in the world would be Orwell driving a bayonet
into a Buddhist priests guts (Orwell, 1996). The author s thoughts pull the reader into his mindset
and dilemma of his world. Orwell receives a telephone call from a Burmese sub inspector that an
elephant was ravaging the bazaar. He took a .44 Winchester, which too small to kill an elephant,
and a pony. The author s intention is to use the gun to make a noise to deter the animal. Orwell
explained the description of the quarter and explained to reader the weather conditions of the area,
cloudy, stuffy morning at the beginning of the rains (Orwell, 1996, pp. 144). He asked the
whereabouts of the elephant but receives vague answers. He noticed an old woman shooing away a
group of naked children. The author mentioned to the reader the children were naked. This imagery

Five Stages Of Health Behavior Change
Successful Interventions
1. Bock, Marcus, Rossi, Redding (1998)
In an attempt to understand the process of health behavior change and the constructs that mediate
behavior change, researchers have begun to apply various theoretical models of behavior change,
such as the stages of change model.
According to the stages of change model, individuals pass through a sequence of five stages of
motivational readiness when changing health behaviors: (a) Precontemplation (not yet considering
change), (b) Contemplation (considering change), (c) Preparation (beginning to make small
changes), (d) Action (recently making the change), and (e) Maintenance (having maintained new
health behavior for 6 months) (Bock, Marcus, Rossi, Redding, 1998, pp. ... Show more content on

For example, individuals with dieting history who have been successful at losing weight in the past
may have beliefs or cognitions regarding types of foods that should or should not be eaten to lose
weight, such as avoiding carbohydrates. Additionally, individuals entering [weight loss management
programs] in the action or maintenance stages may be engaged in disadvantageous actions
including skipping breakfast or cycles of extreme calories restriction followed by high calories
intakes, termed binge episodes. Such actions may provide short term, rapid weight loss thus
reinforcing these thought and behavior patterns; however, more difficult and perhaps more
important is achieving long term, moderate weight loss. With these beliefs and behaviors firmly
entrenched in actors and maintainers, asking them to adopt new actions, such as increasing exercise
frequency and duration, eating frequent, small meals, or some combination thereof, may be more
difficult. If individuals are reluctant to make new behavior changes, then they may be at increased
risk for relapse to old behavior patterns (Prochaska et al., 1994) and weight regain (Sbrocco, Osborn,

Kreidezeitudist Movement Essay
The fifth, and one of the largest and most well known extinctions in Earths history was the
Cretaceous period, where many species, including the dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and large marine
reptiles, disappeared. This period was widely known as the K T period, K being the traditional
abbreviation for the CretaceousPeriod derived from the German name Kreidezeit, and T being the
abbreviation for the Tertiary Period (a historical term for the period of time now covered by the
Paleogene and Neogene periods). It was a relatively warm climate and had high global sea levels.
The oceans and seas were populated with now extinct marine reptiles, ammonites and rudists, and
the land by dinosaurs. At the same time, new groups of mammals and birds as well as flowering
plants appeared. The early part of the Cretaceous showed a cooling trend that had been... Show more

Because there were no known fossil non avian dinosaur fossils in rocks younger than the K T
boundary, scientists have concluded that non avian dinosaurs became extinct immediately before,
or during the event. It is possible that small dinosaurs (other than birds) did survive, but they
would have been deprived of food as both herbivorous dinosaurs would have found plant material
scarce, and carnivores would have quickly found prey to be in short supply. Ectothermic (cold
blooded) crocodiles have very limited needs for food (they can survive several months without
eating) while endothermic (warm blooded) animals of similar size need much more food in order to
sustain their faster metabolism. Therefore, under the circumstances of food chain disruption
previously mentioned, non avian dinosaurs died while some crocodiles survived. The survival of
other endothermic animals, such as some birds and mammals, could be due, among other reasons, to
their smaller needs for food, related to their small size at the extinction
Racecar Drivers Vs Car Driving
Driving in circles is often one of the first things that comes to mind when someone hears the word
racecar driver. However, driving in circles is nowhere near a complete explanation of what a racecar
driver can do. Most people know racecar drivers drive with the purpose of going fast. Their goal
when drivinga racecar is to get from point A to point B as fast as possible. They drive endless loops
of a racing circuit to improve previous lap times by milliseconds, just to say they were the fastest.
This is something that few understand, and racecar drivers have difficulty explaining why this is
their passion to others. It s almost as if they are looking into a different boxcar than others.
Sometimes when people think of a racecar driver, they think, Can t anyone drive a car? or Oh
driving in circles like NASCAR? That must be easy. These answers couldn t be farther from the
reality, and it s astonishing how unknown the world of auto racingis to many people. Racing is not
just driving per se. Racing is the art of driving fast with a bunch of other like minded idiots, who
all risk their lives with the, widely misunderstood, willingness to endanger their life just to say they
beat the other guy. Racing and racecar drivers are entirely different from driving on the street in a
countless number of ways.
Throughout this paper a street driver will refer to someone who is not a racecar driver, and a racecar
driver will refer to someone who races cars.

Cystax Vs Apocalypse Now
In the movie Apocalypse Now, which is a very unique and special movie. Many people still
wonder why this movie is so popular and special in 1979. Which took me awhile to understand,
because the quality of the movie like photography and sounds is not as good as it could be, also
one thing that bothered me is the fogginess, they kept adding to the background, which it didn t
feel natural and shouldn t be in the movie. However, let s not forget when this film was released
which is 1979 and if you compare any movies with Apocalypse Now, well you couldn t compare
them. Like I was watching some movie scenes that was made from the 1970 s and they were not
near as good, and looked so fake and very unprofessional overall. But Apocalypse... Show more

Which when I watch the movie Apocalypse Now and Apocalypse Now Redux the movie I prefer
Apocalypse Now Redux because they added more action and scenes that really made in impact
,like for example one of my favorite scenes that s added is , French Plantation sequence. This scene
that the Captain and the other characters spoke about the war and about their own land that they
have been having for 70 years, which is a sad scene, but an inspirational speech, which really
touched Captain Benjamin L. Willard heard because these people were not going to give up in their
land or leave there land that they have been having for over 70 years. Also at the same time the
French people did help bury Tyrone Miller as well, so there are important things they did add in
Apocalypse Now Redux. Which even little things like Basically the Captain and the Crew just
bonding, which since in this movie the crew is in a war you want to understand the connection with
the Captain and Crew. Apocalypse Now Redux we got that extra touch which made us have a
stronger bond with other characters in the movie not just the Captain but like for example Tyrone
and Jay Hicks. Which they both goofed around and read letters which those little things is added to
the movie, but gives a bigger impact in the
How Did Historians Contribute To The Civil Rights Movement
The Civil Rights Movement is often thought to begin with a tired Rosa Parks defiantly declining to
give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She paid the price by going to jail. Her refusal
sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which civil rights historians have in the past credited with
beginning the modern civil rights movement. Others credit the Supreme Court s landmark decision
in Brown v. Board of Education with beginning the movement. Regardless of the event used as the
starting point of the moment, everyone can agree that it is an important period in history. In the
forty five years since the modern civil rights movement, several historians have made significant
contributions to the study of this era. These historians... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whites were afraid to be labeled as racially moderate, and typically had to join the side of white
supremacy for many reasons, among them the fact that class had previously aligned African
Americans and poorer whites in a fight against poverty, Brown elevated racial status above class.
Also, the decision made those in power in the South exert their disproportionate political power to
keep the state government in their hands. Finally, some Southerners who normally would not care
about race were swayed by the fact that the federal government was trying to impose a decision in
education an arena typically reserved for state government. This made the fight one of states rights
versus federal decree. Klarman s argument claims that this mobilization of white resistance in the
South led to increased tension and violence against African Americans. For example, the bitter
protests in Birmingham and Selma, along with the violence in the Black Belt areas of Lowndes
County, where police dogs, fire hoses and lynching were used came as a result of this massive
resistance movement. This violence, when media attention was paid to it, converted northern whites
to the civil rights cause by exposing the true evils of the Jim Crow system. Civil rights leaders, such
as Martin Luther King, played on that knowledge and specifically targeted cities where the most
powerful backlash would occur, gaining them media air time and allowing the Northerners to
