Bacon´s Rebellion Infleunce on Jamestown
Bacon s Rebellion is considered to be one of the most confusing and fascinating part Jamestown s
history. The main parties involved in Bacon s Rebellion were complete opposites and oddly
enough cousins by marriage. Governor Sir William Berkeley was a veteran of the English Civil
Wars, a frontier Indian fighter, a Governor in the 1640 s, a playwright and scholar. Sir William
Berkeleys reputation as Governor of Virginia was well respected. The other member involved was
Nathaniel Bacon. Bacon was a known as a troublemaker and conspirator whose father sent him to
Virginia with the hope that he would mature. Bacon was intelligent and moving and once Bacon
arrived in Virginia, Berkeley treated him with respect and friendship. Berkeley granted him both
substantial land grant and a seat on the council in 1675.
The Virginia colony was experiencing economic problems, such as declining tobacco prices,
growing commercial competition from Maryland and the Carolinas, a restricted English market, the
rising prices from English manufactured goods, and disturbances made by the Indians. There were
also English losses in the series of naval wars with the Dutch and there were numerous problems
caused by weather. Storms and dry spells plagued the colony and had a damaging effect on the
colonists which encouraged the colonists to find people they could vent their frustrations and place
the blame for their misfortunes.
The Virginia colony began to experience problems in July 1675 as a
The Minister’s Black Veil Essay
The Minister s Black Veil
The story The Minister s Black Veil is symbolic of the hidden sins that we hide and separate
ourselves from the ones we love most. In wearing the veil Hooper presents the isolation that
everybody experiences when they are chained down by their own sins. He has realized that
everybody symbolically can be found in the shadow of their own veil. By Hooper wearing this
shroud across his face is only showing the dark side of people and the truth of human existence and
nature. Hooper left the dark shroud on because he has realized that secret sin is a veil that can
never be lifted from anybody until the day of their death. In a quote from the story Mr. Hooper
says, There is an hour to come, when all of us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was said in the story as, Each member of the congregation, the most innocent girl, and the man
of most hardened breast felt as if the preacher had crept upon them, behind his awful veil, and
discovered their supplied a wicked act of something that was done or thought. Because of the
minister s promise he was forced into a lonely personal life.
In the minutes before Hooper died, he requested that the veil never be removed. This wish would be
his last. Though in lifting the veil I think the sorrowers wouldn t find anything then a normal human
being. Lifting the veil wouldn t resolve any of the of the feelings that overcame parishioners. Until
then the secret sin would act as a separation between people and God.
The quote, The eyes are window to your soul, has an important effect about my thinking involving
in the story. In not being able to see Mr. Hooper s eyes Congregation became uncomfortable. The
eyes make it possible for others to recognize your feelings, emotions, and moods. By covering
them darkness surrounding person himself. One quote that could relate to this story is, do not
judge by appearance. From the first day of the veil dropping over Mr. Hooper s face people s
opinions have changed of him. He became a mystery, unreachable, and feared. In reality Mr.
Hooper didn t change at all. He was the same kind and gentle man with the slight smile gracing his
face. Only by adding of a simple
Cultism in Nigeria
Recent activities of secret fraternities in Edo and Anambra States of Nigeria have once again
brought to focus the impact of the activities of the nefarious groups on the polity. Not too long ago,
two prominent movie stars were brutally assassinated in Edo State in what was alleged as a frat
related offensive, which culminated in the death of about twenty individuals. Most recently
inhabitants of Anambra state were terrorised by frat men, who held the state capital hostage in a
brutal frat war between members of two rival groups, which has claimed the lives of many. Like
volcanic mountains littered round the country, frat wars intermittently erupt around the country with
devastating consequences. Secret fraternities, sororities, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The fraternity, which started in the then University College Ibadan, nicknamed Jolly Roger 1,
was set out to fight among other perceived ills: moribund convention, neo colonialism, and
tribalism and at the same time, defend humanistic ideals, while promoting comradeship and
chivalry amongst its members (Oguntuase, 1999). It blossomed in the sixties, and began to
spread its tentacles and Decks to other higher institutions in the country. However, it was not long
before rancour and acrimony crept into the confraternity, and began to threaten the unity of this
family. In what he alleged as violations of the confraternity s creed, and what others claimed as
his expulsion from the Pyrates, Dr. Bolaji Carew a.k.a Ahoy Rica Ricardo, decided to correct the
observed ills, by pulling out of the Pyrates Confraternity, with some like minds Kunle Adigun, and
Tunde Jawando, to form the Buccaneer Confraternity, in late 1972 (Alora website, 2005). In
1976, the Buccaneers Modaship gave birth to numerous Decks, established in various parts of the
country. The Supreme Eiye Confraternity, which emerged from the University of Ibadan, more or
less as a tribal action group, was allegedly founded in 1965 as the Eiye Group by a group of
students among whom were Professor Jide Osuntokun, Dele Nwakpele, Bode Sowunmi, Goke
Adeniji, Bayo Adenubi, Bode Fadase, Tunde Aluko, Kayode Oke, and Delu Lipede; and later

Cultural Influences On Consumer Behavior
Executive Summary
Demographic Subcultures
Consumers identify with many groups that share common characteristics and identities. These
groups that exist within a society are subcultures, and affiliation with them often gives marketers a
valuable clue about individuals consumption decisions. An important part of the identity of these
subcultures is clothing. Consumers feelings about their overall economic prospects, as well as the
state of mind consumers have about their own personal situation, otherwise known as consumer
confidence, helps to determine whether they will save their money, purchase goods and services, or
take on debt.

Power Dynamic Between Joan And Roger s Episode Babylon
In the episode Babylon from the television show Mad Men, the power dynamic between Joan and
Roger is unusual in that while Roger, a stereotypical white entitled male in the sixties, owns the ad
agency and objectifies Joan, his desire for her, and her ability to manipulate his desire, allows her to
take the power in the relationship and remain independent.
America has had a historically dominant patriarchal system with a particular type of man in charge:
the white, heterosexual, male, who until the 60s 70s had yet to be challenged in his birthright claim
to authority and status. These men believed they were superior to anyone who didn t have the same
characteristics as they did. Because of these societal norms, men believed that they were above their
female colleagues and women often ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joan uses sex to maintain control over Roger, and does everything for what could be seen as selfish
reasons, but as a woman she has the right to do so. With this in mind, the episode Babylon shows
how a woman can use, societal norms to manipulate a man into giving her what every woman in
the 60s wants but could never have, power and freedom. Roger s dialogue often has him
comparing Joan to objects, outlining his fantasies in which he has complete control of her.
However, she is presented as much more in control of how she is objectified. The affair is first
introduced with a scene in a hotel room, although it s a hotel room, we think it s a bedroom, as they
discuss she is seen both looking directly into a mirror and reflected in the mirror. The men believe
have wrongfully correlated objectory dictation with compliments,
