Michelangelo s Influence On The Development Of Western Art
Michelangelo was an Italian Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, poet, and engineer. His most
well known technique was fresco. He had a major influence on the development of western art. He
also influenced many artists in the Renaissance. He was born in Caprese, Italy in the year of 1475.
He considered Florence to be his home at heart. During the Renaissance Era, Florence was a center
of art. Michelangelosaw that as an opportunity to develop his true talents. At 13, Michelangelo was
an apprentice to painter Domenico Ghirlandaio, particularly known for his murals. Although
Michelangelo expressed his genius in many media, he would always consider himself a sculptor
first. Michelangelo has always been known as one of the most famous Renaissance artists because of
his awe inspiring paintings, Sistine Chapel Ceiling, The Last Judgment, and The Torment of Saint
Anthony, and artistic panache.
The Torment of Saint Anthony is the earliest known painting by Michelangelo. This painting shows
Saint Anthony being accosted by demons in midair. Michelangelo finished this painting at the age of
twelve or thirteen in. This painting shows a jumpstart of his many talents. The mediums used in this
artwork include tempera and oils on wood panel. The color scheme is very cool. The green and red
of the demons contrasts the background, making the black robe stand out more. The lines in the
painting, which are vertical, puts an effect that the demons appear more realistic, making you
Examples Of Grit In The Outsiders
Imagine you re surrounded and your friend is being attacked. What do you do next? If you re
Johnny Cade, you murder the leader of the group with your switchblade. This is particularly odd
since he s the gentlest person in your gang. Would you show grit in this crucial moment like he
did, or would you head for the hills? Let s talk more about grit; it stands for growth, resilience,
instinct, and tenacity. Johnny s passion is a blatant example of grit. Grit is passion and
perseverance for very long term goals, Angela Duckworth, the term s creator, states in a TED Talk.
The Outsiders character Johnny Cade demonstrates this precious quality in two ways. He displays
growth and passion when he overcomes his terror and defends his friend, respectively.
The European Expansion Of Europe
For many generations, it was taught that the expansion of Europe to the Americas, (also known as
the European expansion), had a huge impact on all societies of the old world. The importance of
this was taught to societies all across the world, and was indeed a necessary occurrence. Up until
recently, the idea was never given any real thought for the majority of people as to how, over many
generations in the family and throughout the passage of time, how they precisely got where they are
currently today, as well as what kind of pain and suffering the continents known as North and South
America was initially founded on. European expansion did have some positive effects for the
Europeans, such as new lands and resources, however at the same time it had caused many more
negative effects on both the Natives and Europeans.
In the early period of the expansion, explorers from countries such as Britain, France, Dutch
Republic, Spain, and Portugal, crossed immense oceans to even find a hint of other civilizations
and new resources. With superior technological strength and materials, especially with firearms,
Europeans were able to achieve both land and power. The motives for European expansion could be
of any variation, from desiring glory from their lands, to obtaining gold for their future, to serve in
the name of God, or even to meet the strategic needs that their country may require.
Among the first well known European explorers, Christopher Columbus, an experienced voyager,
Why Does Henry V Continue to Be Such a Famous and Popular...
King Henry V, son of Henry IV, forged his legend in a little over nine years. He made England one
of the strongest kingdoms in Europe and academic KB McFarlane even described him as the
greatest man who ever ruled England . Even though Henry V was said to be brave, fair, likeable
and a great warrior, he was also arrogant, ruthless, cruel on campaign and organised massacres. So,
how did such a man come to be a national hero? Henry s fame started to build when he was a
teenager after showing his abilities on the battlefield by taking part in the Battle of Shrewsbury,
in Wales. In that battle, he was wounded in the face by an arrow but refused to leave combat,
fighting until the end. The King s army was victorious against the Welsh rebels and Young Henry
was recognised throughout England for his courage. Despite his early entry into public life,
Henry was well educated. Henry V was the first King of England since Norman invasion to use
English as his primary language and who could both read and write in the vernacular language.
Henry s accession to the throne was broadly welcomed by the population of England because they
were desperate for a strong monarch, something England had lacked since the reign of Edward III.
And he did not disappoint them. Henry fulfilled every criteria by which kings were judged: good
justice, sound finance, true religion, political harmony, accepting consel and nobility. Only one
remained: success in war but it was no long before he fulfilled that
The Muslim Veil
The Muslim Veil The veil worn by many Muslim women tends to be a stereotyped piece of
clothing. Many of us in the United States see it and automatically assume that the person is a
terrorist, but what do we really know about the Muslim veil? Caryle Murphy, a writer for The
Christian Science Monitor, thinks that we do not fully understand the complexity of the Muslimveil.
In Behind the Veil: Why Islams Most Visible Symbol Is Spreading, Murphy writes that Rarely in
human history has a piece of cloth been assigned so many roles. Been embroiled in so much
controversy. Been so misjudged, misunderstood, and manipulated (1). We in the United States need
to understand that the veil is a piece of cloth that has different meanings to... Show more content on

However, the real concern Murphy points out is cultural. She writes that in Western culture [...]
masks usually denote deceit or something to hide and that the veil can prevent Muslim women
from assimilating into a Western community where high stock is placed on face to face
communication (4). British Minister Jack Straw brought up this concern when he called the veil a
visible statement of separation and difference (4). France banned the wearing of the head scarf by
state school children in 2004, though it decided against banning the burqa throughout the country.
Some Middle Eastern countries like Turkey, and even Iran at one time, banned veils in public to try
to become more like the West. However, despite Western influence and patriarchal pressure, more
and more Muslim women are wearing veils not to accommodate others but out of their strong
religious belief that it gets them closer to Allah (4). Murphy concludes by noting that women have
fun with the veil when they choose to wear it, making it into a fashionable item. Far from being
repressed, these women can cover and be beautiful (5).
After reading the article I better understand the complexities of the Muslim veil. I had no idea, for
example, that fashion magazines were devoted to the veil. I can see how it would be difficult for
someone in working class America to understand what Muslim women go through. I hear the
stereotype regularly at work: Why
Sixteenth-Century Spanish Indians
At Joara, near Morganton, North Carolina, Native Americans of the Mississippian culture interacted
with Spanish colonizers of the Juan Pardo expedition, who built a base there in 1567 called Fort
San Juan. Expedition documentation and archaeological evidence of the fort and Native American
culture both exist. The soldiers were at the fort about 18 months (1567 1568) before the natives
killed them and destroyed the fort. (They killed soldiers stationed at five other forts as well; only
one man of 120 survived.) Sixteenth century Spanish artifacts have been recovered from the site,
marking the first European colonization in the interior of what became the United States.[18]

Scholars have studied the records of Hernando de Soto s expedition of

How The Other Half Lives By Jacob Riis
Whereas Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis establishes a connection between the American dream,
disappointment, and lack of satisfaction in the middle class, How the Other Half Lives by Jacob
Riis exposes the gap between the poverty, unsightly and dangerous conditions of the poor and the
uncaring or uneducated middle and upper class in the context of New York.
Set in the 1920s, the period in America following World War I that is considered materialistic and
depraved, Babbitt captures the political and personal unrest of the era, as well as the social rebellion
at the heart of the Roaring Twenties. Written in third person narrative, the characters of Babbitt
include political extremists and those with overt mistrust of the opposing political party; Seneca
Doane, the novel s progressive liberal embodies this notion. Influential society blacklist Doane; men
like William Enthrone and Virgil Gunch view Doane as a communist threat, and when Babbitt
suddenly defends Doane and radical politics, these men are caught between complete disbelief and
threatening mistrust.
How the Other Half Lives by Jacob Riis is a nonfiction story that recounts Riis s life after
immigrating to the United States from Denmark in 1870. When Riis first immigrated, he took low
paying jobs, and during this time, he experienced the utter poverty in America s cities. Shocked by
the crime and disease the riddled the slums, which he attributed to low socioeconomic status, Riis
felt that the living conditions of the
2001-A Space Odyssey
2001 A Space Odyssey is definitely a movie that I liked better in reflection, mainly because I didn t
understand it at all while I was watching it. But after reading the plot on Wikipedia I thought that it
was a very interesting movie. The movie itself reminded me a lot of some of those Pink Floyd songs
with the arguably excessive intros. However it did have many redeeming qualities, namely the
cinematography which was consistently visually engaging and moreover the philosophical concepts
of humanprogression and what it means to have a conscience. One of my favorite parts was the
hominid species discovered the first monolith, thus triggering their evolution into intelligent beings.
The continuance of the monolith discoveries becomes especially

Propaganda is to a democracy what the bludgeon is to a totalitarian state.

~Noam Chomsky

George Orwell was a brilliant author. As we will see through his writing he had the capability to
alter our perceptions of reality. He made the unreal seem real, and the real seem unreal as if we
were seeing it for the first time. This was shown in Orwell s famous book Nineteen Eighty four with
how convincingly he displays the methods of control used by The Party. Dictators rule over the
masses with near absolute power, using control methods mostly unknown to the general population
to sculpt and manipulate their people into whatever they desire. The totalitarian government of
Oceania was the same, except that they had complete control over their citizens. Using a variety of
techniques that Orwell described and that this paper will examine, the Party had almost completely
forced the population into total submission and obedience. Nineteen Eighty four was a critical piece
of literature as it depicted a dystopian vision of what can happen to us today, if we do not stay
vigilant and continue to hold our governments accountable.
Oceania wass run by a system of government called the Party which was led by Big Brother. Big
Brother was the conceptual leader and the ostensible head of Oceania. Orwell did not make it clear
whether Big
The Causes And Effects Of Stress In High School
Have you ever had an assignment in school that was just too difficult to do on your own? Maybe
you ve had a few practices to go to. Sometimes, multiple things that you have in school will
surprise you enough that you may have stress. Multiple things that get you caught up in school can
be such a hassle, but afterwards, when the situation is over, your stress is done and removes one,
or a few things off of your plate. Stress a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting
from adverse or very demanding circumstances. Stress can be caused by multiple things thrown at
you at once, like example, when I was in high school, I had all of my classes, my homework from
each class, extra curricular classes, my friends and family, etc. Stress can take over someone s
life in a snap but you can get out of it, it takes time and patients. Stress can make a person unhappy
as well. With one of my experiences with stress in high school was all of the homework i have
been getting, mostly math homework. Homework for me was, and is still very stressful. I would
always put it all off until the last second. That sure was a mistake. Sure, i would finish them all in
time, but i was stressing about how i wouldn t get to turn it in on time as well. Like, my
experience in math class in high school, i was very bad at the math skills that were taught to the
class. When i would get the homework, i would usually try it, but if i ever got a problem wrong i
would always stress out about it, but then i would keep telling myself that i could do it. So, i did
some of the problems, until, i got distracted by other things, like checking things on my laptop, or
even talking to people. The day that the assignments would be due, i would try and quickly finish
the work before the teacher came over to my groups table, which never really worked. But, when
the year started winding down, and i noticed my grade was dropping, i decided to actually get my
work done on that day, or on the next day. So that s one way of how i got rid of my stress. Actually
doing the work given to me! I ve experienced stress all of my life, another example of this is how in
highschool, i was part of two choirs, Concert choirand Madrigals. Now this sums
Ellowyn Essay
Ellowyn was known for her skill but not being a daughter of a demigod. Her mother Pele is a
demigod of fire and her father died from her mother but Ellowyn doesn t know that yet. She lived
in a small village in Mt. Parnassus. Ellowyn is known in her family and neighborhood for her
skill with fire. She could use fire for almost anything. When she was young her mother taught her
how to control fire and work as a blacksmith. Ever since then she has been in the shop creating
weapons for all the demigods. When Ellowyn got older her mother started to become jealous of
how famous she is becoming. Pele would start to taking what Ellowyn used to make weapons for

Olympus she went into Zeus house without him knowing and stole his lightning bolt. Ellowyn
didn t know any different when she took Zeus s lightning bolt. When she was in her way back
with the lightning bolt her mother was waiting for her at the bottom of the hill. Right when
Ellowyn reached Pele all of a sudden there was a starting of a thunderstorm. The rain was a strong
as hail, the lighting was as loud as all of the fire works on the Fourth of July. This storm came
from Zues since he was mad at Ellowyn and Pele. The thunderstorm was a way to find out who
took his lightning bolt. Zeus came from the sky and when he landed the ground shook as if it was
a hurricane. Zeus kidnapped Ellowyn and took her to the underground world where she was stuck
until she told he truth about what happened. Zeus told Ellowyn tell me the truth about why you
took my lightning bolt or your stuck here found eternity. Ellowyn s told Zeus My mother Pele
told me that you wanted me to come and take your lighting bolt so I could fix it. When Zeus
heard what Pele did he was so furious that he took Ellowyn back up to Mt. Parnassus. Once they
arrived back Ellowyn asked did you really tell me that Zeus needed me to fix his lightning
Jane Miller s Purpose For Running For The Election
To win any election, it is paramount to have selected some vital themes that addresses the needs of
one s demographic party. It has to be fully outlined in such a way that it ll present and outline Jane
Miller s purpose for running for the election. There are several political topics in Texas as of today
but some important and strong ones include: More government regulation of immigration laws,
Taxes and abortion. Jane needs to prioritize this issues and present them in a clear and concise way
to make a clear conservative Republican stand point. Accurately planning a strategic foresight to
enhance the voting outcomes of regions and populations will demonstrate positive outcomes for this
candidate.
For immigration, she would likely propose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also being a pro active entrepreneur, Jane can practically show how small and large businesses can
thrive in a tax friendly environment, thereby winning the heart of conservative Texans. The
campaign theme will help paint Jane as a committed conservative Republican, which is out to reduce
government spending. It could thus lead to a decrease in national debt.
Also proposing incentives for small businesses and reduced taxes for the rest of the population, she
is most likely to get the Republican votes. The fact that various regions of Texas have varied
economic status, the issue of taxation for the working class will need to be tailored for each
affected region and to be delivered with caution (Newell, Prinde, Riddleperger, 2013).
Abortion is a highly discussed issue nationwide, even among different ethnic groups as it tends to
affect all. The initial abortion bill indicates that medical providers to provide abortion only at the
facilities that are fully equipped to carry out the procedures. This is in fact protecting the right of
the Texans women and also reducing the numbers of abortion facilities that are all over the state.
This in part is also continuing in the culture that builds the foundations of the state of Texas. She
could also use the issue of abortion as an excellent entry point to discuss women and healthcare. This
controversial issue affects all Texans as a whole and therefore not

The Children s Act 1989 (2004)

The current child protection system is based on the Children Act 1989, which was introduced in an
effort to reform and clarify the existing laws affecting children. The Children Act 1989 gave every
child the right to protection from abuse and exploitation and the right to inquiries to safeguard their
welfare. Its central tenet was that children are usually best looked after within their family. The act
came into force in England and Wales in 1991 and with some differences in Northern Ireland in

The Nursing and Residential Care Home Regulations 1984 (2002)
Care Standard Act 2000

From April 2002, the Care Standards Act 2000 replaced the Registered Homes Act 1984 and in
Scotland, a similar change occurred with the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001 replacing the
Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968 and the Housing (Scotland) Act 1988.
The Care Standards Act 2000 and the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001 introduced new
definitions of Care Home and Independent Hospital , and Care Home Services respectively. These
replace definitions of Residential Care Homes and Nursing Home used in the Registered Homes Act
1984, Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968 and Nursing Home Registration (Scotland) Act 1938.

The Persecution Of Visible Minorities
As previously stated, the persecution of visible minorities has occurred throughout Canadian history.
Canadian history is plagued with examples of persecution and racism against visible minorities,
specifically Canadian history has exhibited overt forms of persecution that exist on an institutional
level, such as the segregation of Aboriginals in residential schools and the internment camps that
held Japanese Canadians. Current persecution of racialized individuals has become more concealed
and now exists through hurtful stereotypes and individual forms of racism and persecution that
occurs between individual citizens and groups. Policy surrounding persecution and racism towards
racialized minorities exist on municipal, provincial, and federal levels. Using the example of a hate
crime taking place in Alberta, municipal policy would outline the persecution of racialized individual
as a crime, provincial legislation also outlines this action as a human rightsviolation, and the
Criminal Code of Canadaoutlines this particular crime. Therefore, all three levels of government
have policies and legislations that discuss and outline this particular human rights violation, however
the municipal government as well as the provincial government are the jurisdictions that would
handle this particular crime. Although all jurisdictions outline the persecution of racialized
individuals, hate crimes and human rights violations, depending on the severity, would be handle by
the provincial
