An Argumentative Essay
The Social Welfare System During The United States Essay
The social welfare system in the United States can be a controversial topic especially now with
the new presidential elect. For this paper I was assigned to look into two different peoples
perceptions and attitudes on the social welfare system. I looked into how they perceived the system
and whom they believed benefits from this system. Throughout this paper the identities of the two
people I interviewed will not be revealed. I will simply refer to them in pronouns. My goal during
this interview was not to educate my two interviewees so some of the information contained in this
paper may not be accurate. Throughout this paper the two interviewees opinions will be stated and
their opinions will then be compared and discussed. Although the whole population of the United
States is experiencing the same welfaresystem each individual perceives and has different beliefs
about the system.
The first person I interviewed can be identified as a Caucasian, twenty two year old, male. He is a
college graduate who has an associates degree in fire science from Northshore Community
College. This male is currently employed at ENE Systems as a buildings operator and works as a
mechanic at Lucey s Service Station on the weekends. He is a son, a brother to four siblings, and an
uncle to three nieces and three nephews. I interviewed this male in his own home behind closed
doors so there was no other input from outside sources. After obtaining his basic information, I asked
him what he thought
Marco Polo s Travels Over The Maritime Route
Introduction Thirteenth century Europe was marked by a period curiosity of life outside the
western world. Little was known of the cultures in Asia and Southeast Asia. This changed when
Venetian trader and explorer, Marco Polo published his travelogue accounting for his voyages in
the east. Polo was extremely influential to geography, Europe s trade industry, as well as to future
curious travelers. He was the first explorer to travel as far as China and report of his findings.
Consequently, seldom was known of the customs and cultures abroad. Marco traveled from Venice
to China using both the Maritime route, as well as the Silk Road. For this paper however, I am
solely focusing on Marco Polos travels over the Maritime route. More specifically, his reports of the
coastal trade, customs, and cultures he encountered through this journey. Provinces of India, the
coastal islands of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and China will be discussed, along with
background information of Polo, his itinerary, and an analysis of his findings.
II. BackgroundMarco Polo was born in Venice in 1254 to a noble merchant family. His mother
passed away when he was a child and his father, Nicolo, spent much of Marco s childhood traveling.
In 1260 Nicolo and his brother Maffeo traveled to Mongolia where they met the Mongolian ruler,
Kublai Khan. Khan welcomed the Polos and took great interest in the information they shared with
him regarding Europe. Kublai was especially
Democracy And The European Union
Introduction:
Democracy in the European Union (EU) has been described by academics ranging from a classical
case of a gradual de democratisation through integration , to opaque, technocratic, and distant from
its citizens . The EU began as an economic union with 6 initial members for integrating Franco
German production of coal and steel following Robert Schuman s proposal in the 1950s. It has now
become a progressive political union, experiencing many innovations and changes in numerous fields
right from the ECSC to the Lisbon treaty. Today, the EU has 28 members representing almost 500
million people. The expansion has resulted in the uprising of new complex problems, democratic
deficit being the most pivotal. Christopher Lord defined democratic deficit as insufficiently
representative of, or accountable to, the nations and the people of Europe . The phrase was first used
by David Marquand in 1979, referring to the then European Economic Community. Democratic
deficit in relation to the European Union, refers to a perceived lack of accessibility to the ordinary
citizen, or lack of representation of the ordinary citizen, and lack of accountability of European
Union institutions. The complex and distant nature of the European institutions have contributed to
this argument. This essay discusses the European institutions involved in the legislative process
before going on to evaluate the role played by national parliament to combat the deficit, taking into
Satanic Face Portraits
And when the satanic theme wasn t interesting him anymore, he changed to a series of face portrait.
The inexpressible, sad, and defeated facial expression in his paintings, one way or another, would
likely make everyone, who saw his paintings, tortured and depressed.
Not enough to suffer everyone with his paintings, he kept continuing his antics. In a therapy, when
he had to share his negative thoughts and feeling with a group of patients and supervised by a
mental therapist, he suddenly became so fidgety and slid down from his seat to the floor.
They re probably right; I might be insane as hell. The nurses and therapists are now seriously
thinking I m a nut and very motivated to correct me, he thought as his friends in the group therapy
broke into laughter when he sprawled on the floor and the therapist attempted to haul him up back to
his seat.
Every time the facility staffs filed complaints to his family, Adia Fierce, his younger and only
sister, would soon call him. She repeatedly warned him that his antics would guarantee his long
stay in the facility. Please stop whatever you re trying to prove. I know you enjoy fooling around
everybody. I understand you feel betrayed and disappointed, and you want any attempt to fix you to
fail. You re going to lose your mind, Trey, She said, her distress voice reverberating throughout the ...

Demand Management and Fiscal Policy Essay
Demand Management and Fiscal Policy

Fiscal policy is the manipulation of aggregate demand using taxation and or government spending.
The government tends to make most of its fiscal decisions in the annual budget, usually announced
in March of each year.

However, there are a number of problems in using fiscal policy to control aggregate demand one of
the most significant is the problem of time lags.

1. Time Lags

Many aspects of fiscal policy have a delayed effect on aggregate demand. Changing the fiscal stance
can take some time to achieve. For example switching to an expansionary fiscal policy through
increased government spending can take some time before the full multiplied effects are felt on the
economy. If the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How much reduced spending is necessary to choke off aggregate demand and bring inflation down
from 2.8 % to 2.5 % ? The economy is complex, and fiscal policy in reality is such a blunt
instrument fine tuning is impossible. This could easily lead to an expansionary fiscal policy over
inflating the economy and thus generating demand pull inflation. The government would then need
to immediately switch from a go to a stop policy. This change of fiscal stance again only helps to
introduce more uncertainty into the economy eroding business confidence.

Alternatively, if a contractionary fiscal policy overshoots, this could lead to unexpectedly large
demand deficient unemployment. The government would again be forced into a quick reversal of
policy switching this time from a stop and adopting a go policy.

It can be concluded that at best fiscal policy allows coarse not fine tuning 3. Financing Expansionary
Fiscal Policy

Operating reflationary policies involve running budget deficits ie the government is spending more
than it is receiving in taxation revenue.
This means that the government is having to borrow more money, increasing the national debt ( this
is the total accumulated debt of the government ).

In extreme cases, if the government keeps on borrowing excessively, to ensure that it can still
receive further loaned funds from the private sector, the government may be forced to
Oral Traditions During The Colonial Period
While our styles of writing may have changed over the past hundred years, many themes and
connections are still relevant through these older texts. Most of the texts from the Colonial Period
are focused on certain themes that were prevalent during the time. The works that I read throughout
this chapter shared the common themes of cultural differences, religion, and calls to take initiative.
Throughout the Colonial Period, literature has focused on making connections to oral traditions and
sharing stories. With the rapid modernization of society and decrease in the verbal sharing of stories,
many people have turned to writing down these anecdotes to conserve their significance. For
example, some Native Americans have begun to share their enduring
the contested plains book review Essay
The Contested Plains: Indians, Goldseekers, and the Rush to Colorado Written by Elliott West. I
chose to write about this book because of the large range of events and transitions that occurred
throughout the American West that the author includes in the text. Elliot West highlights the
struggles that many endured while trying to create better circumstances for not only themselves
but also their families by moving to the west. He chronicles the adaptations that many white
settlers arriving in the west faced in order to be able to make a living for themselves. But another
reason why I found the book interesting was because of the way Elliot West provided perspective
for each side of the struggle over the American West. He gives us the... Show more content on

It is a heavy, soft metal easily molded into jewelry but hopeless for implements. Its appeal comes
from three qualities. It is rare. It is remarkably inert and will combine with almost nothing around
it the source of its incorruptible image. And it is shiny. (West. 97) I thought this was interesting
because so a lot of the violence and conflicts between Native Americans and the white settlers
happened because of Gold. It is hard to imagine that so many people suffered and lost their lives
over the possession of something that is practically useless. Many Native American tribes were
kicked off of their land because the land that they were occupying at the time was known to
contain gold. And several massacres occurred because of this. Elliot West talks about one of these
massacres in his book. The sand creek massacre occurred on November 29, 1864 when a seven
hundred man military force from the Third Colorado regiment attacked and massacred a large
number of Cheyenne Indians who ironically even had an American flag flying over their camp. Two
hundred men, women, and children were killed and mutilated by the military force. Although there
are other reason why this massacre happened, for example the many raids and skirmishes between
Native Americans and whites at the time. But Gold was still one of the main reasons behind not only
this massacre, but also other acts of violence against Native Americans. Another aspect of the book

Blooms Taxonomy
Based on my past experiences, most of my teachers relied on Bloom s Taxonomy to some extent.
Just as Dr. Richard Paul suggests, many teachers attempt to foster critical thinking skills when they
ask questions that call for analysis, synthesis, and evaluation, even though this approach, according
to Dr. Paul, is seriously misleading (521). As pointed out in the article, simply asking these
questions does not teach students critical thinking skills. I can recall several of my teachers who
would request that students compare and contrast, determine as a whole, or defend a position on
tests or homework. In fact, my American History final exam consisted of a single essay question
asking students to compare and contrast a set of two historically based

The Fifteenth Amendment In The United States
The Fifteenth Amendment prohibits the government from denying a citizen s right to vote due to a
specific race. With which the Congress will have the power by correct legislation to enforce this
amendment. Congress passed the Fifteenth Amendment on February 26, 1869. Most states didn t
ratify the amendment right away but after a years time three fourths of the necessary states ratified
it. The Fifteenth Amendment became a part of the Constitution in March 1870. During the period of
Reconstruction, the Fifteenth Amendment was passed by Congress. This section was a huge
success for African Americans and citizens of other races. In the early years of Reconstruction,
around 1865, white Americans were debating whether suffrage should be given to
