Critical Opinion On Critical Thinking
In our daily lives, we face various challenges that require solutions. Most of the time we are able
to solve these problems with minimum effort, at other times, however, the problems may be more
complex and solutions to them may not be readily available. This will present us with various
challenges and may require us to employ critical thinking. Critical thinking is an important skill
burden of responsibility of ensuring the problems of a contemporary society are understood and
well interpreted and a solution presented. As long as he or she resides in a contemporary society, he
or she, must, therefore, ensure that he or she meets this responsibility. People who engage in critical
thinking tend to provide good evidence and reasoning for the opinions they hold. Critical thinking
also enables people to provide reasons for their actions. This research paper presents a critical
analysis of the importance or the role that critical thinkers play in dealing with societal issues related
to family relations and dynamics. Theses issues include, but are not limited to, teen violence,
physical abuse, depression, and suicide. The paper tries to define critical thinking and family and
then it goes ahead to illustrate how critical thinking can help to solve these problems that surround
family relations and dynamics. According to David hunter, although many definitions for critical
thinking exist, Robert Ennis definition of critical thinking as a reasonable, reflective thinking
My Puerto Rican Culture
The rushing wind blows a scent of sea salt across my body, tickling my nose and awakening my
senses. Slowly my eyes open to absorb the beauty of the morning sky, which is delicately speckled
with poignant white cotton balls. A loud snore can be heard from the main room of the apartment,
while the stilled breathing of my brother drones on. Carefully, I crawl out from my bed exiting the
guest room and making my way slowly across the tiny apartment. My entire family lays across the
main floor in a tangled mess of inflated beds and plush blankets. I traverse the maze with a multitude
of leaps and bounds until I make contact with the porch door; which I slide through with relief.
Standing within the square enclosure the turquoise tinted water greets me with beauty and
graciousness. Even from the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within my household a larger focus has been placed upon my Puerto Rican roots as I have traveled
over 15 times to the island; which in turn has strengthened my cultural bonds. The food, the people,
the music, the history, and the beauty of the island have not only encapsulated me, but have directly
opened my eyes to different cultural realities present within a multitude of locations across the globe.
Puerto Rico may be a United states territory, but it is nothing like the United States. Being a such a
small island a tighter knit idea of nationality is formed and the notion of constant elation can be felt
throughout the entire nation. Warm magnanimity is perceived from the poorest woman to the
richest man. Every visit to the island has been met with the warmth of the stifling heat and the hugs
of my grandparents. Grandparents who hold the Puerto Rican values of love, acceptance, and fun.
Such values have framed my culturally diverse background while also unhinging the systematic
societal impressions found within my own
Genes And Functions Of Proteins
Genes is something every living organism has. Genes are found in the DNA, which is the center for
information that gives instructions for what type of protein the cell is suppose to produce, it s
lifespan, maturity, and function. The gene is a subunit of DNA. It holds the instructions for what the
proteins should be producing. Proteins are molecules that properly instruct the cells structure,
function, and regulations of the body s tissues and organs. Amino acids are what proteins are made
of. They are connected to one another in long chains. There are a variety of different types of amino
acids that can be put together to make a protein. Each different sequence of amino acids tells the
proteins structure and function. Antibodies, enzymes, messengers, structural components, and
transport or storage proteins are different examples of protein function. ( How Do Genes Direct the
Production of Proteins? , April 2015) Majority of genes hold information that is essential to produce
functional proteins. From a geneto a protein the transformation is rigorous and the mechanisms
happen in every single cell. There are two steps for the process of making a DNAgene to a protein
which are transcription and translation. In the process of transcription, the information in a genes
DNA being made into RNA(ribonucleic acid) in the cells nucleus. The kind of RNA that holds
information for making a protein is a mRNA which is thw messenger RNA. It transports information
to nucleus into the
Environmental and Geographic Features
A) Significant environmental/physical geographic factor that contributed to the development of
Egypt. Egypt has become one of the most populated countries in the Middle East. But, how did all
of these people get there and why did they choose Egypt to settle? Early Egypt can thank it s main
river source, The Nile, for early human civilization. Without The Gift of the Nile, Egyptwould not
have been a desirable place for people to settle. Being that mostly hot, dry deserts surround Egypt,
the Nile River provided a sufficient amount of water for irrigation of crops and transportation.
According to Louis L. Orlin in the book, Life and Thought in the Ancient near East, the Nile River is
the main avenue of every habitable community in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many cultures still use tea for medicinal and therapeutic uses. Every country has it s own way of
enjoying tea and brewing it. No matter how an individual enjoys their cup, tea is the universal drink
of countless millions, all thanks to Ancient China (Saberi, 2010).
C) Two significant environmental/geographic factors that contributed to the development
/expansion of the United States. One significant geographic factor that contributed to the
development and expansion of the United States was the California Gold Rush in 1849. The two
fundamental geographic features that aided in the encounter of the California Gold Rush were
the large quantities of gold California produced on its grounds and the area s very fertile land. In
1848, President James K. Polk confirmed that the abundance of gold being found in California
was indeed true. As a result of the discovery of this large quantity of gold, population soared and
major developments were made not only in California, but also all throughout the United States.
Over 300,000, from all over the United States and other countries came to California in hopes to
become rich from the gold. Gold mining became very desirable during this time. Being that gold
was so easily within reach, California and the United States began to develop rapidly. In the book
written by Stewart L. Udall and David Emmons, Rethinking the History of the Old West, it is stated
that in an 1852 census, California s
Disadvantages Of A Total Institution
Total institutions regulate all aspects of life. They have single authority with total control and are
isolated from the rest of society. A few examples of total institutions would be prison, mental
hospitals, and the military. There are four features that total institutions have in common. The first
trait is that all aspects of life in a total institution are controlled in the same place and under the
control of an administrative staff. The second feature is that activities are conducted in the
company of others under the same, or similar, circumstances. These activities are done in close
proximity and everyone is subject to the same treatment. The next feature is that the authority will
conceive the rules and schedule the activities. They will have the slightest rewards given to those
who abide by the rules. The last feature of total institutions is that all aspects of life are meant to
fulfill the total institution s goals of resocialization. Now prisons will be used as an example to go
over the advantages and disadvantages of total institutions. A major disadvantage to total
institutions is the loss of individuality. A loss of identity occurs as managers in jail only care to
know of their name, court date, and charge bail (Irwin 273). Also, the prisoners have their personal
effects taken away and have a difficult time keeping up with their appearance. Upon arrival, they are
forced to change from their clothes into ill fitting, conspicuous jail uniforms (Irwin 273).
Life And Dedication Of An Organization
As I peered through the window of opportunity, which I thought would be an easy adventure, time
and dedication surely proved me mistaken. One average senior high day, I walk into the Human
Services classroom and sit down at my desk. The class writes the daily five minute prompt about
the service we are hoping to be involved in for FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of
America) called, STAR (Student Taking Action with Recognition) events. After the prompt, the class
sets up the desks to have our monthly FCCLA meeting. I, being the President, began the meeting
with any house keepings that needs to be discussed. Next, we progress the discussion to our chapter
s current funds and finally begin to go into detail about STAR events. In an organized manner, we
list the events and information pertaining to which people are planning on working in each group.
I decide to work with Angela, who happens to be our chapter s Vice President, and Molly, the
secretary, to focus our attention to the Focus on Children category. With much thought, we decide
on the idea of researching the sugar content in beverages and directing the information toward late
elementary audiences. We create a few presentations and visuals to provide the students an accurate
idea of the sugar content within their drinks. While constructing this project, we also call at least
five of the elementary schools in the area. One of the schools responds and we are able to coordinate
a few dates to present to
Factors Influencing The Change Process
Introduction Change is an important part of organizational life and is affected by a multitude of
complex factors both within and without the organization. While numerous theories exist to explain
the change process, the organization and leadership within an organization, the change process fails
more often than not (Gilley, McMillan Gilley, 2009). The purpose of this paper is to examine the
factors limiting the change effort and how to transition to successful change. Change Defining the
change process in an organization is an important aspect in determining whether the change was
successful and how the process can be improved. It is also important to understand why change is
necessary. According to Goodstein and Burke (1999) the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To understand the change process, many models have been developed. The seminal work in the
field of change theory is that of Kurt Lewin in 1947 where he defines three steps for successful
change: unfreezing, movement, refreezing (Gilley, McMillan Gilley, 2009; Goodstein and
Burke, 1991). Many models have followed and expanded on Lewin s three steps, including
models by Burke and Litwin (1992), Nadler and Tushman (1980), and Tichy (1983) however all
of these models have been criticized for being too linear while the change process is clearly not
(Gilley, McMillan Gilley, 2009; Goodstein and Burke, 1991). In addition to the models that explain
the change process, the type of change that the organization is going through also plays a role. In
their review of literature Gilley, McMillan Gilley (2009) identified three types of change:
transitional, transformational and developmental. Transitional changes are small changes,
transformational are radical shifts and developmental are continuous changes. Goodstein and Burke
(1991) see two different levels of change as well and call them fundamental, which is similar to the
transformational change identified by Gilley et al. and fine tuning which is similar to the
transitional changes identified by Gilley et al. Likewise, Weick and Quinn (1999), basing their work

he once was before. On March 8, 1971, he challenged Joe Frazier, who had become heavyweight
champion was Ali was away in jail. This fight was huge and was called Fight of the Century. Frazier
won a unanimous 15 round decision. Ali later bounced back in other fights against George Foreman
and later had a rematch against Frazier and he won these fights. People disliked some of Ali
views on things and some of his actions but it was more so because the truth sometimes hurts.
People have a problem with change at times and a lot of what Ali did nobody had ever done before.
A lot of what Ali believed in a lot of people believed in too but weren t brave enough to have the
courage to step up and say what they believed
Federalists Vs Anti Federalists
Our nation has been divided amongst two specific groups. The Federalists and the Antifederalists.
The Antifederalists continue to argue against the ratification of the Constitution. On the opposing
side the Federalists are for the constitutions based on their beliefs that will benefit the nation.

The Federalists also have many arguments that defend the constitution. They are all for the strong
central government. This group believes the Articles of Confederation lack to support the needs of the
nation, This is their main reasoning behind creating a strong national government. Certain federalists
in this group Important people to note in this group include Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton,
John Jay, James Madison, and George Washington. Three of theses Federalists wrote a series of
essays called the Federalist Papers. These can be read about in more detail on page 3. ... Show more

They believe the Federal Government will drain any power from the states. Their thoughts are that
our country is too large to be governed by a national government, and to support the citizens at the
same time. They argue a strong federal government takes away from the individual rights of the
people. This group is also strongly against having a one strong power in charge. They want to lean
as far away from anything that has a similarity to the monarchy of England. This specific group of
people supports the Articles of Confederation. Patrick Henry, George Mason, Richard Henry Lee,

Accounting Principles And Standards Of Professional Conduct
As accountants and auditors we are held to, and must comply with, two standards of professional
conduct. Those standards are generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally
accepted auditing standards (GAAS). GAAP enforces the uniform standards for preparing and
presenting financial statements. GAAS governs the ways and means are used by public accountants
when conducting an audit. GAAS establishes the standards for field work and mandates that
sufficient evidence be found to provide reasonable assurance for issuing an audit opinion.

An accountant that acts with reckless disregard for the consequences of their actions is said to have
committed constructive fraud. An accountant that commits fraud is liable for compensatory and
punitive damages to any foreseen person that could be injured. A fraudulent act is a false depiction
of a material fact and it is made with the objective to deceive the user. When an accountant provides
auditing and accounting services they owe a duty to their clients of reasonable care, knowledge, skill
and judgment. If an accountant breaches the duty of reasonable care, knowledge, skill, and
judgment, he or she is believed to have committed a tort which may be classified as accounting
malpractice or negligence. An accountant who commits negligence can be held liable for falling to
exercise a certain duty of care to their clients. For example, if an auditor discovers questionable
transactions while performing an audit, the accountant should investigate it and inform the client of
the results.

As a result of the case of Bily vs. Arthur Young in 1992, the Supreme Court issued a hierarchy of
duty for accountants who prepare incorrect financial statements. In order to be found liable under
ordinary negligence, an auditor must owe a duty to his or her client only. The duty expands to
receivers of the financial statements under negligent misrepresentation. The Supreme Court defined
the receivers as
The General Overhead And Construction Projects Essay
In the past, the general overhead in construction projects was not important compared to project
costs. However, with the new construction environment and its changes such as the high usage of
lean, BIM, and LEED, everything has changed. Nowadays, most of the construction contractors are
measuring their general overhead costsand trying to control it. To gain profits, they started to allocate
their general overhead costs to different construction projects they are working on. In this paper, we
investigate how a construction company (general contractor) manages its general overhead costs.
Preceding this stage, we should provide few definitions of the general overhead costs in order to
give readers a deep insight of what this paper is about. Moreover, it is essential to explain how
construction contractors allocate their general overhead costs to construction projects, what methods
they tend to use for allocating, and what advantages and disadvantages does every method have.
Further, we shift our focus to activity based costing method by defining it and describing its steps.
Since the main purpose of this paper is to examine how construction contractors deal with their
general overhead costs, an interview should be conducted to know how contractors allocate general
overhead costto construction projects to get profits. Indeed, each construction contractor may use a
specific method when allocating. Due to our interest in estimating, the interview was conducted with
