The Market Economy By Marge Piercy
The bizarre economy that we live in has affected us in many ways than our simple mind can fathom.
After World War II there was massive push in innovation. Human were gifted with inventions like the
Airplane, color T.V., polyvinyl cups, and precooked dinners. Nevertheless, these gifts came at an
enormous cost. That cost was pushed onto the environmentand people living in that environment.
The Market Economy by Marge Piercy illustrates the movement in American aimed at bring
attention to a global problem as well as an effort to save the planet along with the people living on it.
Marge Piercy was born in 1936 which placed her birth at the end of The Great Depression.(History
Channel) This also let her grow up in the Golden Age of America where the United States of America
had the highest GDP per capita, people could easily find jobs you work in a new plastic (line17)
With all of new economic opportunities that happened during this time period also brought people
out of the country fresh air into more modern factories that populated the environment. and there was
a massive population boom happening. Also with a population increasing people moved outside of
the cities and in to the suburbs. This boom in population was mostly in the middle class where
families spent money on buying thing like Color T.V, polyvinyl cups, precooked meals and other
home goods to less than burden of doing house course, and increasing the leisure times. Some of the
cost of goods was not
Monetary Policy in the United States Essay
Monetary Policy in the United States
1.Identify at least three problems facing the FED in achieving its goals of monetary policy and give
your recommendations on how to deal with each of the problems you list.
Inflation presents a problem for the FED achieving it s goal of price stability. Inflation is unavoidable
as far as the natural progression of an economy is concerned. Supply and demand also affect
inflation. While the FED cannot control supply and demand of a product, I would suggest that they
try to control price stability by creating regulations of what a company can charge related to the
supply and value of a product. A high unemployment rate negatively affects the FED s goal of a high
employment rate. The employment rate is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3.Explain how changes in reserve requirements and the discount rate affect the operations of banks
and other depository institutions.
Changes in reserve requirements and the discount rate affect the operations of banks and other
depository institutions by changing the amount of actual funding that they have available to them. If
they are required to hold more actual money, they may have less financial instruments such as gold
to back up the value of the money. If the discount rate fluctuates, banks may have to adjust interest
rates on their loans to compensate for the money they are gaining or losing.
4.Explain why the FED cannot set intermediate targets in terms of both monetary aggregates and
interest rates.
The FED can only pursue one target at any given time. For example, if they are targeting interest
rates, exchange rates will fluctuate and vice versa. The FED s influence over real interest rates is
weaker than that of nominal interest rates and stabilizing the economy is more important than
stabilizing interest rates.
5.Update the case information by using at least two (2) data sources in addition to the text.
Modern monetary policy does not involve gold as much as it used to in the past. In 1968, the United
States reneged on it s guarantee to pay in gold and effectively removed itself
My Challenge In My Life
This essay is about my biggest challenge that I faced in my life. It all started when I was a little boy
about seven years old. One day I woke up in pain so my mom was worried and she took me to the
hospital. After I was there for hours doing different types of test, then the doctor came to my
room and what he said changed my life. I just remembered looking at my mom and she looked back
at me and started to cry I had no idea what was going on I began to get worried. The doctorsaid that I
have a blood clot in my right shoulder and I need to get on medication right away. By dealing with
this struggle it made me a stronger person because I didn t give up even though I was feeling down
about myself.
Next this affected my life because I missed so much school and I just felt like I wasn t a normal
kid. I was at the point where I barely went to school and my friends were asking why I was never
there but they wouldn t understand. There was a point when I actually Lived in the hospital for a
couple of months. After I was on Coumadin for years to prevent the blood clots from coming back. I
just wanted to be a normal kid again and when I was on that medication I was not allowed to play
contact sports so I was out of baseball for years. I was sad and angry about it because I played
baseball for the love of the game and they just took it away from me in a heartbeat. The medication
they put me on is for when I get hit by anything it causes me to bleed more and it s not good for my
Gun Control In Modern America
GUN CONTROL IN MODERN AMERICA
Modern America is torn, between the majority who support gun legislation and the minority who
fight radically against any form of change in the nation s stance towards gun control. Gun control
has been a hotly debated topic in the United States of America for the past few decades. The fight
stems from two separate interpretations of the 2nd amendment which states A well regulated Militia,
being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall
not be infringed (U.S. Const. Am. 2) The first being a loose interpretation of the constitution and the
second being a more strict and rigid interpretation. The loose interpretation believing that gun laws
are not unconstitutional. The strict believing gun laws would inhibit American citizens from
exercising their second amendment rights. However thousands of Americans die each year due to
gun related violence each year. Some take their own lives, other innocents are killed by murders and
criminal, and some die to accidents, pure misfortune on their own part. This is due to the
proliferation of guns in modern America. According to Nakaya(2014)
It is widely agreed the United States has a very large number of guns. According to the most recent
statistics, it has the most firearms per person of any country in the world. Yemen is ranked second
and Switzerland third, yet they are far behind the United States. The Small Arms Survey, which
conducts extensive
Essay about Sundiata
If you want a taste of West African History Sundiata will give you exactly what you want and
more. Sundiata was an interesting piece of literature to read. Unlike the previous two books we
have read this semester I found this book much more simple. This book was much easier for me to
comprehend and actually get into. This book exposed me not only to the West African history, but
also a new religion. The story of Sundiata depicts the story of the foundation of the Mali Empirein
West Africa. This story takes place during a transitional time period, when the trade network that
linked towns and villages across western Africaattracted north African merchants who brought
increasing Muslim influence. The Mali Empire was one of the great... Show more content on

He gives special attention to Lahilatoul Kalabi, the first black prince to make the Pilgrimage to
Mecca. On his return trek, he was robbed by brigands, and his entourage split. Allah saved his life
and made him a king once he returned to Mali after seven years of wandering. They state, After
seven years absence Lahilatoul was able to return, by the grace of Allah the Almighty (Sundiata,
2). Another important role in this epic was the importance of long distance trade. After the exile
of Sundiata it gives him a chance to learn about the trade routes and people of his region. An
example of this long distance trade was in the chapter of The Baobab Leaves. Sundiata s sister,
Kolonkan, now of a marriageable age took on the role in society as a woman. She was at the
market she noticed a woman who was offering for sale nofiola, and gnougou, condiments unknown
to the people of Mema (Sundiata, 43). She recognized the baobob leaves and many other
vegetables which her mother used to grow in her garden at Niani. The merchant questions
Kolonkan on how she knows about the baobab leaves, due to her offering at the market in Mema
for days, but no one wanting them. While over hearing the conversation a man draws near offering
the princess a cola. We are merchants and we going from town to town (Sundiata, 44). The details of
trade in this chapter greatly illustrate the existence of trade in the West African
Love Is The Type Of Love
Love, a combination of strong emotions, concerns, and desires one feels for another human being. It
could be shown by ones behavior and sexual attraction towards the person whom they love. There are
many facets of love that was described within the text such as passionate, unrequited, companionate,
consummate loveand many others. The love type of relationship that I would be focusing on is an
intimate partner kind of love. According to Sternberg, the ideal kind of love which consist of
intimacy, commitment and passion is consummate love. Consummate love is the type of love
everyone yearns. I believe I had found this type of love with my husband of four years. We are
very intimate, compatible, committed, and passionate for one another. I couldn t have picked a
better partner to fit my ideal of a soulmate and I thank God for him every day. After completing
both questionnaires; the Hendricks Styles of Love and the Sternberg s Triangular Model of love
. I was curious to see what my scores entails and whether my two separate scores would be similar
to one another. It also made me to reminisce back to when my husband and I first met and the kind
of feelings I had then compared to now. According to the Hendricks Styles of Love scale, I believe
my score is relatively correct in a way. This particular questionnaire scale has six subscales; Eros,
Ludus, Storge, Prama, Mania and agape to interpret each categories. My Eros, Storge, Pragma,
mania and agape scores were all
Support Childrens and Young Peoples Health and Safety
Unit D6011696: Support Children and Young People s Health and Safety. . Learning Outcome 1:
Understand how to plan and provide environments and services that support children and young
people s health and safety. 1.1 In order to ensure a safe and healthy environment and services for
children/young people there are some factors which need to be taken into account. These include
any equipment which they will be in contact with, such as electrical equipment, anything which
may pose a fire risk, any damaged furniture or fixtures which they may come into contact with. If
there are any cables or anything they may trip over as well as any spillages or anything they may

Any area which will have children/young people playing in should be assessed before any child
/young person goes into the area to make sure there is nothing harmful for example any broken
equipment. Any issues which are found which may be a risk to health and safety need to be
logged and discussed with other members or staff so that everyone is aware of any risks. Having
a set guideline of what happens if equipment is broken or damaged, is a good idea so that staff
know how to manage the situation and eliminate any future risk. 2.2 In dealing with an accident
or hazard for example if a child was to trip and fall in the playground, there are set instructions to
follow to ensure the incident is dealt with appropriately. This would involve taking the child to a
registered first aider within the building to allow the child to receive treatment on any injury they
may have received. An accident for needs to be filled out so that the accident has been recorded,
this then needs to be logged and reported to a senior member or staff. As well as this the incident
will need to be reported to and explain to the parents. An extra measure would be to carry out an
assessment of the playground to make sure there are no hazards which may have caused the
accident such as stones or glass for a child to trip over or no broken equipment or uneven surfaces
which may cause futures problems. 2.3 When undertaking a health and

The 1960s live action TV series was played for laughs, with a deadpan Adam West as Batman and
nutty villains including Zsa Zsa Gabor as Minerva and Roddy McDowall as the Bookworm. The
series also featured Yvonne Craig as Batgirl. Two decades later Batman was reinvigorated by the
1986 publication of Frank Miller s gloomy, acerbic graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns. Miller
s work inspired a darkly popular Batman feature film, directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael
Keaton as the caped crusader and Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Batman: The Animated Series began
a long run on TV in 1992, with Kevin Conroy as Batman and well known voices like Mark Hamill
as the Joker and Adrienne Barbeau as Catwoman. The film series was revived in 2005 with Batman
Begins, starring Christian Bale as Batman and Michael Caine as his faithful butler, Alfred. Another
sequel, The Dark Knight, again starring Bale and with the late Heath Ledger as the Joker, was
released in July 2008.
Challenger Rhetorical Analysis Essay
Well known president, Ronald Reagan, in his address to the nation, Explosion of the Space
Shuttle Challenger, expresses grief for the explosion of the Challenger. Reagan s purpose is to
commemorate the seven men and women, who lost their lives and offer hope to those who will
continue to explore space. He creates a sad, yet hopeful tone in order to convey to America, we
all mourn the loss of the Challenger Seven, but our space program will continue. Reagan begins
his address to the nation by stating he postponed his State of the Union address to pay tribute to
the Challenger Seven. He also appeals to the audiences pathos by stating he and his wife, Nancy,
are pained to the core by this horrific tragedy. By stating this he appeals to the audience s sorrowful
emotions. He also declares today is a day for mourning and remembering and this is truly a national
tragedy, which delves deeper into the audience s sorrowful emotions. He, then, joins the nation in
mourning this loss, to further unify the nation, and meekly admits that we share this pain with all of

He justifies the importance of the space program by stating, It s hard to dazzle us. But for the
past 25 years the United States space program has been doing just that. The space program is
justified by that statement because it shows the space program has helped the U.S. learn so
much more about, not only the world we live in, but the universe we live in. He goes onto state
we ve only just begun. This also justifies the space program by showing, if we ve already learned
this much already, there s no limit to what we can learn. He then establishes logos by calling the
Challenger Seven pioneers and space is still a frontier waiting to be explored. This also shows the
crew knew the risk, and their sacrifice is still important, and we should commemorate them by
continuing space
