Masculine Bravado in Death of a Salesman and A Streetcar...
What is it to be a man? Masculinity is defined and characterized differently across cultures and time
there is no global standard. In some cultures, being a man may mean being comfortable with both
your masculine and feminine sides or it could suggest being tough and not letting your feelings show
at all. Manliness can be demonstrated in some cultures by providing for a family through work, and
in others, it might mean scoring the winning goal in a championship game. It is not an easy thing to
define an entire genderbased on the arbitrary set of ever changing social and cultural norms, but
somehow it still happens. Trying to define one s own masculinityand live up to its standards is a
tough and grueling task that many men... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, with both in the sales industry, it s easy for them to turn on that charismatic charm and
sell not only their ideals, but themselves in the form of their winning personalities (Cardullo 29).
Stanley Kowalski is the typical hyper masculine example of a man in the late 1940 s to early 1950 s.
He is described by his sister in law as an ape (Williams 121), he is abusive towards his wife, and he
is the breadwinner of the family he literally brings home the meat and throws it at his wife to
catch and cook. Masculinity itself is not a character flaw, but when expressed with such ferocity it
can become a crutch and unflattering. Stanley displays his manliness in several different ways
throughout the play, something that the author Tennessee Williams did on purpose to reflect on
the societal norms of the time and to do so in a questioning manner. The manliness that Stanley
has is not one that is kept tamed and unleashed in appropriate moments, but is a type that is
constantly wanting people to know that he is the king (Williams 138) of his home and family. By
asserting his dominance, Stanley is showing how masculinity can be a force that drives one to do
absurd things in order to keep up a façade. Willy Loman s disposition is not as boisterous as
Streetcar s anti hero, Stanley, but is instead more internal and self reflective. His views of
masculinity arise from the

Summer Essay
In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, one of the scenes that I think is central to the
development of the story is when Ralph and Piggy discover the conch shell on the beach and use it
to summon the boys together after the crash. This scene has great importance to the plot of the story
considering it was the first time the boys held a meeting and discussed their situation. They came up
with a system that would eliminate chaos. For example, in their very first meeting, they voted on a
chief, choosing Ralph over Jack because he was the one with the conch. This proves that the boys
seem to think that power, responsibility, and leadership skills come from the conch. In reference
Afghanistan Drug Trafficking
In western societies, families are living comfortable lifestyles, non threatening jobs, and are blessed
to witness their children growing up. However, in Afghanistan, citizens are relying on opium poppy
plants from drug dealers as their source of survival, with the risk of endangering their family.
Nevertheless, when there is a discrepancy between the farmer and drugtrafficker, problems arise. In
the PBS documentary Opium Brides, families are left with the fate of sacrificing their own children,
in order to survive. Farmers in Afghanistan are reliant on opium plants to provide stability in their
homes, however the government is against opium. Most of the countries economy is resulted from
the production of opium; about 90% of families in Afghanistan produce opium . Harvesting crops
such as wheat or maze has lower cash revenue than opium, and takes longer to grow1. Because other
crops have little results in economic stability, many families have no choice but to grow opium
crops. Although... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Afghanistan, opium drug trafficking is present. This form of organized crime is the production of
supply and financing of illegal markets in good and services4. With opium being transported from
Afghanistan, this unauthorized activity is dominant in the state. Because drug trafficking is
prominent in the region, there is an organized threat legitimacy of the state4. Through money
lending also being an illegal activity present, the state is unable to protect its citizens against debt
settling with children. This type of money lending involves loaning families money with a high risk
of using their children as goods for trading4. Because of these two illegal acts of organized
criminality, traffickers in Afghanistan have the advantage over the state. Thus, through transporting
illegal goods and loaning money out to families, these drug traffickers dominate and threaten the

La-La Land Film Techniques
Classical films usually bring to mind descriptions of black and white filming, poor lighting and
audio, exaggerated acting, cheesy lines, and distorted music. The audience that favors such films
would not include the millennial generation that is used to action packed excitement. Released at
the end of the 2016 year is an exception that will entice today s youth into the heart of classical
films. La La Land tells the story of Mia and Sebastian as they balance love for each other with
ambition to become an actress and jazz club owner respectively. Filled with memorable music,
dancing, and old timey charm, La La land has received exemplary reviews from the critics.
