Past and Current Drug Trends in America

Drugs come in many forms and from many places. Drugs have been around since the beginning of
time and people have been using them since they discovered them. Drug use began thousands if not
a hundred thousand years ago as humans started exploring their environment. People would see a
new plant or observe an animal s behavior after consuming the plant, and out of curiosity, they
would experiment with it or taste it. This is how some of the drugs we know today came about.
Cocaine, opium, LSD, peyote, and marijuana all come from plants that primitive people discovered
while tasting the environment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marijuana is still and probably always will be a widespread used drug. Amphetamines are a major
problem here in Arizona, especially among teens and young adults. Arizona started a large scale
media campaign in the beginning of 2010 known as The Arizona Meth Project . The purpose of
this project is to inform the youth of the risks and the effects of using meth. Also in Arizona, there
is a rise in crack cocaine use. Young people have on recreational drug experimentation is mixed.
Some, if not most young adults and teens believe that drugs are bad. Nevertheless, there are always
those who see nothing wrong with living a little .
Appropriate Use of Illicit Drugs In some cases, the public views the use of illicit drugs as
acceptable. Some of these illicit drugs are acceptable for medicinal purposes and some are
acceptable because of religion. Many people believe in the medicinal value of marijuana. Marijuana
is the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States. Many advocates consider marijuana a
harmless, or even beneficial, substance that should be made legal (Medical Marijuana, 2010. para.1).
In fact, in recent years there have been propositions put on the ballot to legalize marijuana in many
states. In California and some other states, patients with a cannabis card and a prescription can
purchase and use marijuana. Marijuana helps with pain, anxiety, and many other medical issues. In
some cases, the use of amphetamines is
Landfills and their Effects on the Enviroment Essay
Landfills And Their Effects On Humans And The Enviroment

Every year Americans collectively create approximately 208 million tons of municipal solid waste,
which breaks down to 4.3 pounds of waste generated per American per day. In addition to this
normal waste, the United States produces roughly 279 million tons of hazardous waste per year.1
All of this waste has to go somewhere. Two good methods of waste disposal, infrequently used, are
incineration and recycling. However, any waste that is not recycled or incinerated ends up in
America s landfills. Landfills that are not in proper working order can pose a serious threat to
humans and the environment, but ones that safely store all of their waste may possibly be helpful
for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rock should be as nonporous as possible to stop waste from seeping into the groundwater, but
one must be able to predict where the waste will go if it escapes through the liner of the landfill.5

The next layer is the bottom liner of the landfill, which can be made of one or more layers of
natural or synthetic materials. The liner is the landfill s defense to keep the waste out of the
environment. This liner can be made of clay, plastic, or a composite of plastic and clay soil. Natural
liners, made of clays and shales, often crack and allow the waste to enter the environment. In
addition, some chemicals can soak into the clay, thus causing additional harm to the environment.6
The Geomembranes, liners made of plastic, may seem like they are the best available today, but
many household chemicals can break down the plastic, and it can be easily punctured.7 Thus, like
natural liners, Geomembranes may also allow waste to enter the environment. Combinations of the
different kinds of liners can be more effective than the use of a single material.8

The leachate collection system is what collects any water that has been contaminated by seeping
through the waste in a landfill. Leachate refers to the water that has been contaminated. If the system
happens to fail for any reason, the leachate can contaminate groundwater, the source of many
communities drinking water.9

Finally, the cover is to

Critical Appreciation Of Maya Angelou
The year is 1940 and the setting is the desperately poor, racially segregated town of Stamps,
Arkansas. In the soft dirt beneath the stilts of her grandmother s general store, she does not want
anyone to hear her as she attempts a few lines of poetry. Maya Angelou has not spoken for five
years since being raped at the age of seven, but slowly, tentatively, she begins to make a sound.
Angelou did what not many can do she defied stereotypes. She was a multifaceted character who
was not defined by hardship alone, yet she faced a lot of hardship. Multi talented barely seems to
cover the depth and breadth of Maya Angelou s accomplishments. She is one of the most important
African American authors and orators of the twentieth century. She speaks on behalf of ... Show more

She s an example of what a woman can be if she gives herself the opportunity to fully bloom. Gender
based violence is very common in Sri Lanka as women experience acts of physical, sexual, and
psychological violence in the family and community, often condoned by the State. Violence
against women is widespread in Sri Lanka. Incidences of rape, sexual harassment, domestic
violence, incest, assault, and obscenity against women, unwanted advances, perverted acts, forced
pornography, forced prostitution and media violence all prevail in Sri Lankan society
(Jayasundere, 2009, p2). These issues receive attention from diverse sectors: State, non
government and civil society, which address preventive measures and provide redress for victims.
Despite this, violence against women continues to take place in the private and public sphere and
the measures taken to prevent and provide redress remain insufficient. However when Maya
Angelou wrote her beautiful pieces of art I believe she stood up for the all women and her poetry

The Great Downfall During The First Indochina War
Once again this treatment of the Vietnamese people showed how little the French thought of them,
their culture and their abilities, the French s arrogance in underestimating the Vietnamese may
have been their greatest downfall during the first Indochina War. During President Franklin
Roosevelt s time in office, it has become apparent that he held great hostility towards the French
colonialism in Southeast Asia, even declaring to his secretary The case of Indochina is perfectly
clear, France has milked it for one hundred years, the people of Indochina are entitled to
something better than that. A trusteeship is what President Roosevelt had in mind, this scheme
would see Indochina taken away from France and be placed under an international directorate,
that would prepare it for eventual independence. After President Roosevelt death on the 12th of
April 1945, the presidential role was succeeded by Harry Truman who did not shared Roosevelt s
concern over colonialism and adopted a policy even more favourable to France. This policy by
President Truman only brought limited results, the French hopes of victory that was restored by
the prospect of America s assistance was short lived. True to France s reputation of epic last stands
the battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954 was just that, a 56 day battle that was seen as a hopeless
situation that nothing positive could of come from. The battle ended on the 7th of May 1954 and on

A Wrinkle In Time Movie And Book Differences
A Wrinkle in Time was written as a book and made as a visual movie for all to see. Both can be
compared because both, the book and movie, have many similarities to each other. But, both also
have many differences to come with it. One similarity that is in both the book and the movie is that
Charles Wallace keeps to himself and can read minds. He doesn t talk to anyone outside the family.
The one person that he is closest to would be Meg because she defends and understands him.
Another similarity is that in both, the book and the movie, Calvin has compulsions. He feels if he
should do something, or go somewhere and the timehe should do so. He also feels if something is
right or wrong in the process of doing so. In this compulsion he had the feeling of going to Meg
and Charles. The last similarity was that in both, the book and the movie, Meg, Charles, Calvin,
Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Who teaser only to be gone for a few minutes. The three
witches made it seem to Meg, Charles, and Calvin that they were gone for a while. But, to... Show

One difference was the appearance of the characters. Meg was mentioned to have glasses and
braces with acne in the book. However, in the movie she has no glasses, no braces, and no acne.
Charles looks pretty much the same in both. But, Calvin was said to have red shaggy hair, instead
he had brownish blackish hair. Another difference is that in the book, Meg, Charles Wallace, and
Calvin were led to the three witches through Charles. In the movie they were lead to the three
witches through a crow. The crow went to Meg s window and Meg had a feeling to follow it. The
last difference is that in the book Meg jumps onto Charles Wallace in the CENTRAL Central
Intelligence building witch causes him to crack his head on the tile. This scene does not happen in
the movie. Instead, Meg just tries to talk to him through communication, nothing physical happened
and no contact was

2.1.1 Current Hong Kong Tax System
Taxes are use to shift resources from the private sector, including households and businesses, to the
