The Shawshank Redemption Essay
The Shawshank Redemption is a prison movie that is based on a book by Stephen King and
directed by Frank Darabont. The movie is not the average bloody horror movie; instead, it takes you
to a place where your worst nightmares come alive. The tremendous performance by Morgan
Freeman and other actors has truly brought this film to life. The emotions characters portrayed were
so real that every one could feel compassion toward them. The Shawshank Redemption, a
contribution to the working man, illustrates the dark side of the prison and the power of hope within
that helps a prisoner to survive.
The Shawshank Redemption depicts the working class man that shares qualities of a hero. Andy

The setting is dark and foreboding and creates the atmosphere of the last place one would ever want
to spend their life. The convicts have to tolerate other prisoners and guards who are brutal and
ruthless ( Morgan Freeman Stars 58). The Shawshank prison is a hell full of sinners (Alleva 16).
To the prisoners, prison is like a whole different world. After learning to deal with imprisonment,
the prisoners then have a hard time dealing with the outside world. Another horror about prison
life is the psychological disorder of being behind bars for so long prevents prisoners from being able
to survive in the real world ( Morgan Freeman Stars 58). One of the characters, played by James
Whitmore, commits suicide because it is difficult for him to adjust to the outside world. Red,
another prisoner, does the same thing when he is on parole (Alleva 16). Red states that in
[prison] he s an important man where outside he is nothing but a con [who] probably couldn t get
a library card if he tried (qtd in Armstrong 81). Before Red and James hang themselves, they do
something with the knife in their hands. To keep the suspense alive, Darabont does not reveal their
actions until after the suicides take place. The shot of the scene endorses one of Andy s ideologies:
get busy living or get busy dying (qtd in Avella 18). The use of camera, angle shots, and knowing
when to use them appropriately are the aspects that keep the viewers on their tiptoes. That is
Music Artists Have Blamed For Violent Acts
A violent and angry lyric filled heavy metal rock song comes on the radio as someone is driving
home from work. The person begins to get into the song and the next thing they know they are
feeling angry. Is that heavy metal rock song going to be the reason that person snaps and decides
to rob or possibly kill someone? Most people believe that is the case and that music is to blame for
violent acts that are committed. Does music really have this power to trigger people to commit
violent acts or are there various underlying factors that coincide with the committing of violent acts?
For years, music artists have been blamed for violent acts that people have associated with their
songs. These genres are the most attacked because of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This conception that music has the power to influence someone to commit a violent act is a
belief that has been continuously controversial throughout history. For example, Elvis Presley s
gyrating hip movement that began when he performed his song Hound Dog was considered
highly controversial (Caywood). It was seen as too sexual and was highly criticized, then there
was rock and heavy metal. The bands subject to scrutiny in these categories were the likes of Led
Zeppelin, Metallica, Marilyn Manson and many more. The genre of heavy metal rock has been
the target of most people because of the amount of reports that show that fans of heavy metal fans
have the most problems with suicide and problems with authority in schools. However, now a
new popular genre of music known as rap has taken center stage as being the cause for violence
and problems that people are dealing with. These genres are the most controversial because of the
lyrical material, in a study it was found that of the top 10 selling cd in 1999, found that forty two
percent of the songs contained sexual content and that the rock and rap songs contained material that
related to death, suicide, homicide and substance abuse (Pediatrics). In a study conducted it was
found that twenty five percent of male and seventeen percent of female adolescents liked their
favorite song because the lyrics were a reflection of their feelings (Pediatrics). This

Written constitutions are those fundamental rules, regulations, laws, etc which is codified or found

Rape and Sexual Assault
Rape and Sexual Assault Rape is a type of sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse,
which is initiated by one or more persons against another person without that person s consent.
The act maybe carried out by force, under threat, or with a person who is incapable with valid
consent. The definition of rape varies both in different parts of the world and at different times in
history. According to the American Medical Association, sexual violence, and rape in particular, is
considered the most under reported violent crime. When part of a widespread and systematic
practice, rape and sexual slavery are recognized as crimes against humanity and war crimes. The rate
of reporting, prosecution and convictions for rape varies... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some societies consider incest to include only those who live in the same household, or who
belong to the same clan or lineage; other societies consider it to include blood relatives ; other
societies further include those related by adoption or marriage. Incest between adults and those
under the age of majority or age of consent is considered a form of child sexual abuse that has been
shown to be one of the most extreme forms of childhood abuse, often resulting in serious and long
term psychological trauma, especially in the case of parental incest. Prevalence is difficult to
generalize, but research has estimated 10 15% of the general population as having at least one such
sexual contact, with less than 2% involving intercourse or attempted intercourse. Among women,
research has yielded estimates as high as twenty percent. Father daughter incest was for many years
the most commonly reported and studied form of incest. More recently, studies have suggested that
sibling incest, particularly older brothers abusing younger siblings, is the most common form of
incest, with some studies finding sibling incest occurring orders of magnitude[not in citation given
more frequently than other forms of incest. Some studies suggest that adolescent perpetrators of
sibling abuse choose younger victims, abuse victims over a lengthier period, use violence more
frequently and
Single Point Assay Lab Report
First, we had to determine the appropriate concentration of enzyme to use for the single point
assays in the remainder of the lab. In addition, we also calculated the extinction coefficient for the
colored product. To determine the appropriate concentration of enzyme needed, 4 tubes were set
up. The kinetic profiles of 4 tubes were observed and the appropriate enzyme concentration
needed was determined to be 0.1ml. The absorbance readings of each tube are shown in the table
1a and 1b below. In addition, the absorbance values of each tube were plotted as a function of
time. Four graphs were created for 4 tubes and the graphs are shown below. For tube 4, we made a
mistake of not letting the reaction run long enough, so only the beginning part of the plateau was
observed. In theory, when the absorbance of the product reaches a plateau, the velocity of the
reaction is 0.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The kinetic profile of tube 1 is represented by a horizontal line in graph 1. Tube 2 contained
0.01ml of enzyme and graph 2 represents the kinetic profile of tube 2. It shows that the
absorbance of tube 2 increased over time at an exponential rate. The amount of enzyme added to
tube 3 was 0.1ml. The absorbance of this tube increased at a steady rate over time. Graph 3
represents tube 3 and its enzyme kinetic profile is indicated by the positive linear line. About 0.5ml
of enzyme was added to tube 4 and graph 4 represents its kinetic profile. The absorbance increased
over time, but at the end it began to plateau. Comparing the kinetic profiles of 4 tubes, the
appropriate enzyme concentration needed for the assay was determined to be
Pathogens And Bio Toxins
(1)Define Biological Weapons, how they work, and implications. A biological attack is the
...intentional release of a pathogen or bio toxin....against humans plants or animals... (Forest Howard,
2013, p. 113). These pathogens and bio toxins intentionally released are also known as bioweapons
because they can cause economic catastrophe, illness, deaths, fear, and even disruption to normal
day practices. There are three different categories of pathogens and bio toxins dependent on the level
of threat they present. Category A includes the pathogens and bio toxins that have the greatest threat.
As stated in, they are ...easily disseminated and contagious, high mortality rates, may disrupt society,
[and] requires special action for public health... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Detecting the threat can be a challenge in itself. Some pathogens and bio toxins don t show
symptoms until later down the route; even then, there has to be a pattern of some sorts to be even
recognized as a problem and not an isolated case. Depending on if the pathogen or bio toxin was
aimed at humans or plants or animals, consequences can differ. An attack on agriculture could
possibly be devastating on economics and food supply. Attacking animals could have the same
consequences. Humans on the other hand are exposed to an entirely different consequence, long
term health consequences. As stated, to those exposed to a biological attack and survive, the long
term health consequences are unknown (Forest Howard,
What Is The Theme Of Good Country People By Flanner O Connor
Good Country People is a classic short story by contemporary American author Flanner O Connor.
Published in 1955, it a compilation of symbolism, imagery, characterization, irony, and allegory
which created a Christian Humanism short story. The most famous yet clichéd Idiom Pride goes
before a fall; adapted from the book of Proverbs in the Holy Bible, is exemplified both literally and
figuratively in this short story. Its central message goes to show how the attitude one portrays can
lead to their self destruction. Flannery O Connor s characters are flawed in some way or the other.
Most of them err spiritually or morally. In her writings, these flaws can be found mostly in those
who are physically impaired; bodily handicaps symbolizes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It may have not happened instantaneously but it did happen. The study of eternalism is one which
shows us that everything is in good order. (Chapman). Post trauma victims go through phases
before they eventually reach to the nihilistic state, and this was no different with Joy Hulga. We
met Joy Hulga as an off standish, religious hating, angry, cynical and distasteful character in the
story Good Country People. We acquired snippets into her life which then allowed us to empathize
with her character. O Connor took Joy Hulga through a traumatic experience which produced, in
the end, a defenseless and hopeless character once more. She made her suffer at the hands of a gun;
having one of her legs being shot off while she was still conscious of the suffering and pain. As she
grew, she began developing resentment towards the Bible and religion. Her last name; Hopewell
meant hope well but she had no hope. She felt betrayed and loss, the odds were definitely not in her
favour. We can imagine an adolescent entering puberty hoping well, that her leg was going to get
better someday, but it never did. This eventually drove her to
Supply Chain Management ( Scm )
1.Introduction
1.1What is Supply Chain Management (SCM)
When we look around in a study room, we know everything is produced by different manufactories,
but we do not know how the table or chair is produced from the row materials, and what the most
efficient way through the manufacture process is. All these activities involved a term Supply Chain
Management (SCM).
The figure 1 shows the entities involves in Supply Chain, namely the row materials, supplier,
manufacturing, distribution, customer, and end users. Figure 1. The entities in Supply Chain
In the APICS dictionary, supply chain is defined as two meanings. (1) The process from the initial
row materials to the ultimate consumption of the finished product linking across supplier user
companies. (2) The functions within and outside a company that enable the value chain to make
products and provide services to the customer.
As we can see in the Figure 2, the supply chain is the integrated network of all kinds of facilities and
distribution options involves in transferring row materials to the intermediate and final products
consumed by end customers. Different kinds of row material are provided by several suppliers to the
manufactory. The manufactory is generally comprised with six part, namely Logistics, Purchasing,
Production, R D, Finance, and Marketing Sales. The final product are sold to the end customers
directly or via the vendors. Moreover, there are two flows from top to button, production flow and

The El Nino Southern Oscillation
Abstract The El Niño Southern Oscillation is a complex sequence of natural climate variations that
take place in the tropics of the Pacific Ocean, yet affect the climate of the entire globe. The climate
phenomenon, known as ENSO, has three main phases that each differ markedly in their atmospheric
and oceanic conditions. El Niño, also known as the warm phase , is the first cycle that begins when
warm water in the eastern Pacific Oceanshifts to the west toward South America. During El Niño,
the east to west trade winds halt and sometimes reverse directions, causing significant
disturbances in the biological life of the Pacific Ocean. Conversely, La Niña is the complete
opposite of El Niño. La Niña, also called the cold phase brings unusually strong east to west winds
and colder temperatures along the equatorial Pacific. Both phases have consequences that affect
the regular atmospheric conditions of the world; El Niño is linked to both droughts and floods, La
Niña is linked to extreme tropical cyclones and monsoon rains. The climatic events also have
relationships to forest fires, economic changes, famine, plagues and widespread crop failure. The
study of ENSO is necessary in order to attempt to reveal patterns and key factors that can affect the
intensity and severity of this phenomenon that occurs globally on average every two to seven years.

The El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is one of the most important natural climatic phenomena

Comparison of Mexico and Brazil Essay examples
Brazil and Mexico are both the giants of their geographic realms (de Blij and Muller 219,254).
Mexico constitutes an entire geographic region of Middle America (200). The country of Brazil is
also considered a single region in South America (239). Both of these regions have very large
populations in comparison to the other regions of their realms. Mexicos current population of 102
million people has more than doubled in size since 1970 (219). Brazil s estimated population is
currently near 167 million people (254). The populations of both regions are becoming increasingly
more urban in character. At least seventy four percent of Mexico s population resides in cities or
towns (220). Similarly in Brazil, eighty percent of the population... Show more content on

67 million Brazilians can trace their ancestries to European, African, and Amerindian bloodlines. A
slim majority of Brazilians are of European decent. These people are the ancestors of immigrants
from Eastern Europe, Portugal, Germany, and Italy. Brazil also has the largest population of
Japanese outside of Japan (254).

Despite the differences in their ethnicity, the populations of these regions are both highly
urbanized. In Brazil eighty percent of the population resides in urban areas (Microsoft Encarta).
Nearly seventy five percent of Mexico s people are urban dwellers (de Blij and Muller 220). The
largest cities of these regions are Mexico City, Mexico (221) and Sao Paulo, Brazil (259). Mexico
City is the home of a little more than twenty five percent of Mexico s total population. Mexico
City s population grows by amazing amounts each year; the city will probably soon be the most
populated city on Earth. Right now the population of Mexico City is twenty eight million (221).
Sao Paulo in Brazil is also growing remarkably fast. Presently the population of Sao Paulo is Twenty
three million Sao Paulo s population has more than doubled in the past thirty years (259).

Sao Paulo and Mexico City are facing some of the same problems. Sao Paulo and Mexico City are
both marked by areas of great economic contrasts. Mexico City has more than five hundred areas
that can be called slums.
