Woman s Civil Right
A Women s Civil Right

The speech A Women s Civil Right was written in 1969 and the feminist author Betty Friedan
delivered it. Betty Friedan was a proponent of the modern women s movement and claimed that
women in 1969 and onwards should not be trapped in the stereotypical housewife role. Friedan was
convinces that social barriers in the society kept women imprisoned in the housewife trap . She
wanted women to have better career opportunities, introduce equality with men and to eliminate the
illusion of the happy housewife . This specific speech announces that abortion should be a part of a
women s civil right.

Betty Friedan singles out women to be the invisible minority in America. The invisible women in the

By means of a forceful argument, Friedan clarifies her political position by using a rhetorical
device called confutation. Betty Freidan makes certain reservations in her argument because she is
aware of a possible opposing argument: Am I saying that women must be liberated fro motherhood?
No. I am saying that motherhood will only be a joyous and responsible human act when women are
free to make, with full conscious choice and full human responsibility, the decisions to become
mothers p. 2, l.8. The confutation is used to destroy the conceivable objections against the argument:
The essence of the denigration of women is our definition as sex objects .

Betty Friedan supports abortion on demand. She believes that mother s should have the liberty of
choice. Mother s ought to have the rights to creativity beyond being a mother. This creativity
involves pursuing a career in different occupations and to reject the prejudices about being
feminine. Friedan insists on a woman s right to choose whether to have a child or not. She thinks
that motherhood will be accepted joyfully and as a great experience in life, if the choice was freely
chosen. The conflicts of being a mother will not exist once women are the masters of their own faith
and the captain of their souls: I am saying that motherhood will only be a joyous and responsible
human act when women are free to make, with full conscious choice and full human responsibility,
the decisions to
Preserving And Developing A National Identity
Preserving and developing a national identity in China has been and continues to be an ongoing
commitment, most notably since the seventeenth century. A nation is an imagined community
consisting of a so called myth of common descent, where those who contribute to society share a
common experience. The concept of a national identity is crucial in understanding the history of
Chinaas it developed into a nation. Factors that have been established to define identity can consist of
the following: the relation one has to a specific territory; the government system; religions;
ideologies and beliefs; and importantly, in China, the relationship between government and class
social structures. Moreover, the notion of ethnic identity surfaces... Show more content on

With the conquest of the Manchus over the Ming Empire during the transition from the Ming
Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, the loss of ones native identity was on the line. The preservation of
national identity was critical for both the Han and the Manchus. Manchus feared in losing their
national identity in which they ensured to preserve their shamanism: the notion of having a spiritual
death and rebirth, thus going into a supernatural world where they could then influence events
(Schoppa, 36). With the Manchus fighting for the recognition and preservation of their national
identity, they would perform their shamanic rituals in the city, such as in the Forbidden City, along
with enforcing tactics that would prevent the Manchus and the Chinese mainlanders to associate
with one another closely. However, at a point, as Schoppa elaborated, the Manchus conformed and
[bought themselves] into Chinese culture (Schoppa, 26). By doing so, the political and social
contributers of the empire felt as if their identity was on the line.
Moreover, during the reign of the Qian long Emperor, when China peaked with its wealth and
power, when it was in its prime of commercialization and urbanization, was when it led to more
social development, and an increase in population. This urbanization and social development due to
increasing population was a large contributor to the dissolving national identity of China (Schoppa,
35). During this period, in the
The Theory Of Mechanical And Organic Solidarity And Anomie...
When approaching the film Fight Club, the average eye would not expect to have the opportunity to
delve into the visual instrument serving as the illustrations of the classic social theorists Marx,
Weber, and Durkheim. The analysis of this film throughout this paper will begin with connecting
Marx s ideologies of commodity fetishismto the narrator s fixation on his items rather than indulging
in life, all while taking a close look at the members of Fight Club. Secondly, Durkheim s theories of
mechanical and organic solidarity and anomie will be analyzed throughout the amount of compliance
given by the members of the radical group. This is followed by a shift in focus which delves into how
Weber s theories of legitimate domination exploit the culture of the underground society formed by
the charismatic authorityof Tyler Durden. The film opens to the narrator s apartment being blown up,
where he reveals throughout a conversation with himself how he was not disappointed necessarily
with the fact that he no longer had shelter, instead he was fixated on the undeniable fact that the Ikea
furniture purchased was not salvageable. This incident within itself slightly hints at what Marx
labels as the fetishizing of commodities to the point where one may not realize the effect capitalism
has over them. The Ikea furniture was a continuous serving reminder of the single staple that
represented his earnings and handwork; all while the narrator subconsciously identified with these
Essay about The Laramie Project
The Laramie Project, written by Moisés Kaufman, is a compilation of interviews by The Tectonic
Theater Project, news publications, and journal entries. After the brutal murder of Mathew Sheppard
in 1998. Kaufman along with his theater troupe made six visits to Laramie, Wyoming, where the
murder took place, to interview people about what happened and how they felt about the crime in
their community. They interviewed about two hundred people, of which about sixty were included
in the play. The play showcases a small town in America in a historical time of tragedy. The
production of The Laramie Project was simple. The stage setting was minimal and the the actors
consisted of eight people portraying more than sixty. Through the patchwork of... Show more content

A lot of the townspeople from Laramie were shocked that the criminals were from their own
community. Many people were in denial that something like this could happen in their town,
while others wanted to make the townspeople accountable. My secret hope was that they were
from somewhere else, that then of course you can create that distance: We don t grow children
like that here. Well, it s pretty clear that we do grow children like that here (Jacobus 1640). it
happened here...we need to own this crime. I feel. Everyone needs to own it...We ARE like this
(Jacobus 1645). The people of Laramie had once believed that they were a live and let live kind
of place and now they were beginning to doubt this. live and let live. That is such crap...basically
what it boils down to: if I don t tell you I m a fag, you won t beat the crap out of me. I mean, what s
so great about that? (Jacobus 1645). People were left in a state of confusion. Even the criminals don t
seem to understand the reasons for their crime any better than anyone else (Evans). Matthew
Sheppard s attack influenced the attitudes of many people in Laramie and forced them to realize the
truth of the attitudes of others in the community. Along with the murderers, Russell Henderson and
Aaron McKinney, there were quite a few other people in the

i.Linear array mode ii. Phased array mode

Linear array mode: Subset of transducer elements are excited

Phased array mode: All elements are excited to focus at the sharp ultra sound beam at the defined
focal point.

For the transducer array; the parameter piezo electric element (electric charge generated with
respect to the applied mechanical stress) pitch size is to smaller than that of half of the wavelength.

Multi-Entendre In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
A multi entendre is one of Shakespeare s famous tools that use a word or a phrase that can be
interpreted in multiple ways to give hidden traits of some characters in his literature. Specifically
in Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses multiple meaning words in with dialogs from characters
like Mercutio or Tybalt and he often includes sexual references. One example of Shakespeare
including multi entendre in his work can be seen when Sampson and Gregory, of the Capulets, say
that they could push their enemies to a wall and surrender any fight when one is provoked. (1.1.12
17) The phrase dog of that house represents a male of their enemies shall have to step aside for

Mercutio thinks that Romeo will not answer Tybalt s challenge to fight him as he states that
Romeo is already dead. (2.4.14) Mercutio doesn t feel confident for Romeo. Mercutio also says
that Romeo s white wench s black eye shot him with a love song which cut his blind bow boy s
butt shaft. When saying this, Mercutio is referring to how Rosaline blinds Romeo s with his love
even though Romeo loves Juliet much more. Mercutio s words here can also mean that Rosaline
/Juliet has taken Romeo s concentration, virginity or even manhood and that Romeo doesn t have
what it takes to fight. Mercutio also remarks that And is he a man to encounter Tybalt, questioning
if Romeo has the guts to forget about love and defend himself and his honor as a man. Mercutio s
comments allow Shakespeare s audience to question Romeo s masculinity. His dialogue also
exemplifies Mercutio s sense of humor as well as his minimal respect towards
The Jewish Concentration Camp On The Camp
Woke up had breakfast in the hostel. Went to the train station and met our tour guide, then headed
to Dachau. Dachau had mixed emotions. The Jewish concentration camp left many speechless.
Words could not describe how it felt to walk through the camp, where so many people was
murdered. Walking to the furnace I could not fathom what actually took place. I never knew all
of the symbols each prisoner wore and had no clue there was a different symbol for everyone in
the camp. Seeing the original prisoner suits was amazing yet sad. The status of the mangled
bodies will be imbedded in my memory and I will never forget what the wall stated which was

they were running out of space. Chicken skewer for dinner, one cool thing that we saw was the

Essay On Disputed Territory
Disputed territory is often described as a land that has been disagreed over power and ownership
typically between a new state and the previously owning country. Disputed territory was also the
main reason for the battle between Mexico and the United States to brew. United States was the
first to act and begin this war, but did the country really have good reasoning to get even with Mexico
? Indeed, the United was justified in going to war with Mexico because 16 of our American
soldiers were killed, Mexico was just beginning to be a their own country and did not exert enough
government control, and Texas wanted to be part of the United Statesin the first place. In the year
1846, our soldiers were sent down to the border between newly added Texas and... Show more

The soldiers were sent as protectors from Mexico. Before becoming part of the United States,
Texas had new citizens already arriving in their part of the country. These citizens were coming
from the United States. Most of them were Protestants, and did not abide by the Catholic religion,
which Mexico had ordered them to. All of the previous United States citizens in Texas agreed to
revolt against Mexican officials. Texas gained their independence at the Battle of San Jacinto and
was commenced a search for a new land to abide to. They had annexed to become part of the United
States, but unfortunately Congress voted against this proposal. The reason being was that, many
congressmen did not want a large slave territory being added in the Northeast. Somehow in late
1844, President James K. Polk was elected as a leader of this nation. He spread the idea of Manifest
Destiny throughout the nation. Manifest Destiny was a belief that it was God s will for this
democracy to spread all the way to the Pacific ocean. Before this president took office, Congress
had reversed their whole way of thinking, and voted to annex Texas. This was where United States
soldiers were sent down into disputed
Jesus Made In America By Stephen J. Nicholas
When I was reading the book Jesus Made in America by Stephen J. Nicholas, I came across a very
interesting chapter titled Jesus on Vinyl . This chapter discussed in detail the state of the use of
Jesus in contemporary music from the 1950s up to the current times. Back 3in the 1950s there were
contemporary artists who putting out albums of hymns, like Johnny Cash s Hymns of Johnny Cash.
Not surprisingly, the most significant time for Christian gospel music was during the hippie era in
the 1960s. During that time, gospel, youth, and music had merged together into songs that preached
about Christ and love. Many people became Christians during that time to protest the ongoing war in
Vietnam so it would make sense that they would start to make that a main topic in the music of that
time.
Hippies usually referred to themselves as the Jesus People (named by Duane Pederson who was one
of the leaders in Los Angeles) which led to this movement called the Jesus Movement. They claimed
to not be a part of the hippie culture that they were born out of nor were they a part of the
fundamental church. This caught the attention of several media outlets which drew more people do
the Jesus Peoples welcoming environment. Many baptisms happened during this time, like in 1967
when Ted and Liz Wise converted four couples into becoming followers of Jesus, usually while on
drugs. The people being baptized actually believed that they were being cleansed while still being
intoxicated. They
Critical Thinking
Introduction

In our lives, there must be a time where we may face problems. Problems will occur if we do not
have the right strategy or solution. So, how are we going to solve it? Well, there are no specific
solutions that I can explain here but there are some ways that can help us to create the correct and
fast solution to solve our problems. One of the ways is to think critically.

Thinking is a good process but thinking alone will not help us to develop our minds. That is when
critical thinking may take place. Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally. It
includes the ability to engage in reflective and independent thinking. Using critical thinking one
makes a decision or solves the problem of judging what to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Not only that, he has used his thinking for the research of Aristotle s theory. The factor which al
Kindi relied upon to determine which of these theories was most correct was how adequately each
one explained the experience of seeing. For example, Aristotle s theory was unable to account for
why the angle at which an individual sees an object affects his perception of it. This proves that Al
Kindi s views and philosophies are very comprehensive and analytical in every research he had done.

Not only a philosopher or a logician, he is also known as an Islamic psychologist. He was an

expert in experimental psychology. He was the first one to use the method of experiment in
psychology, the earliest one to realize the therapeutic value of music and attempted to cure a
quadriplegic boy using music therapy. He also stated that sorrow is not within us, we are the one
who bring it upon ourselves . It shows that he knows the ways to cure a person s mind and help to
improve the way of thinking of others. He developed cognitive methods to combat depression and
discussed the intellectual operations of human beings.

Descriptive Essay About Alien
Half moon
All along the years, scientists, mathematicians and geniuses have been intrigued in the study of
Aliens. Myths, stories, legends have been passed down from generation to generation. Remember
those years of childhood when we were just so fascinated by aliens? Do they really exist? you
would ask. Pondering daily for answers to mythical creatures, only, seeing them being crushed as we

As I, Linus stroll along the sidewalk that was covered in the washed out sidewalk chalk, I think
about my rough day at school. But, for an instant, déjà vu had struck me. I looked around,
however, I only just saw a purple text book. A familiar look I thought. I had recognized the
scratched up corners and the black scribbles all over the cover. It was my science text book I lost
last week! I immediately pick it up, realizing I still have my post lab questions to do. Just as I lift
the book, A small blue envelope appeared. It had a mesmerizing purple amethyst gem encrusted
impeccably in the center. My fingers unintentionally opened the envelope and inside revealed a
narrow piece of ruffled paper with yellowed edges and holes burnt through the middle. Word by
word my eyes skimmed along the sentences as I stood on the concrete in shock. The letter went a
little something like this:
Long ago, before we thought space exploration existed, A prehistoric human Hermes traveled to the
moon. He had long dark hair, a busy beard and a pair of piercing blue
Boston Massacre Essay
The Boston Massacre is considered by many historians to be the first battle of the Revolutionary
War. The fatal incident happened on March 5 of 1770. The massacre resulted in the death of five
colonists. British troops in the Massachusetts Bay Colony were there to stop demonstrations against
the Townshend Acts and keep order, but instead they provoked outrage. The British soldiersand
citizens brawled in streets and fought in bars. amp;#8220;The citizens viewed the British soldiers as
potential oppressors, competitors for jobs, and a treatto social mores ; (Mahin 1). A defiant anti
