Solubility Lab Report
This lab experiment aims at using different techniques of dissolving and extraction to test the rates
of solubility of different substances that have both similar and dissimilar substances. Each
experiment was based on the idea of like substances dissolving each other, which means that polar
substances can be dissolved in polar substances, and non polar substances can be dissolved in non
polar substances [1]. To add, each experiment required that both dissimilar and similar substances
are mixed in order to develop layers resulting from the immiscibility (inability of substances to mix)
which will ultimately enable similar substances to be extracted. The different kinds of layers that
formed were organic or aqueous; organic mainly consisted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Therefore, they cannot dissolve in polar substances like water. [1] This is the guideline followed
by the non polar hydrocarbon biphenyl. Similarly, the like dissolves like concept explains
biphenyl s ability to dissolve in hexane. Ethanol s insolubility is caused by sp2 hybridization of
orbitals of biphenyl which generate more polarity than the sp3 hybridized orbitals of carbon. [1]
Hydrogen bonds with methanol and water can be formed from the malonic acid compound which
follows the second and sixth guideline. [1] Malonic acid s insolubility with hexane can be
accounted for by their opposing polarities. An oxygen atom, which is electronegative, is contained
in benzophenone thus making its molecules polar. This explains benzophenone s insolubility with
polar methanol. Benzophenone did not dissolve in water, but it dissolved in hexane because it has
2 non polar aromatic groups that total up to more than 6 atoms of carbon having an oxygen atom
(Guideline 5). [1] In Part B of the experiment, 1 butanol and 1 octanol were dissolved in hexane but
did not in water. Methanol did not dissolve in hexane, but it did in water. Although 1 butanol and 1
octanol have an electronegative oxygen atom which allows polarity, a larger part of their molecules
have hydrocarbon bonds that follow the fourth guideline. However, 1 butanol prevents Guideline 5
that states that
Descartes Claim Of The Universe
Descartes claim of I think, therefore I am , is an attempt to establish a firm foundation for the
understanding of the universe and explores the ideas of the self and what we can know to be real.
However, there is one major flaw in this approach. That flaw is how we are to create this foundation
when before it we had nothing and the paradoxes in the creating definitions of words.
His goal is to better understand what he is in order to reestablish the foundations of his
understanding of the world around him. This is a normal human behavior to explore the unknown or
not well understood. Any explorer that sails the ocean in search of new land may know what land is
but new land that was unknown to him/her is a satisfying development in the person s understanding
of everything that is real. The modern practice of this behavior includes, but not limited to, an
astronomer using space telescopes to look deep into space where light from an ancient universe is
arriving at the Earth or an experimental physicist when smashing particles together in hopes to find
new and smaller part that makes up the fundamental building blocks of the universe. Descartes
hopes to apply his logical process to reveal the fundamental building blocks of the universe that
humans can exist in. He also wants to create a fundamental understanding of the way to observe the
universe that we can perceive with the limited senses that we have. He uses this logical process in an
attempt to create the foundations of

Skin Disorders Essay
Skin Disorders I chose my topic because I have a skin condition, and I thought it might be a good
idea to research different skin disorders. I have eczema on my foot and it was a very irritable skin
disorder to go through. But thanks to the miracle of modern day medicine, all I m left with is a scar
and it is barely noticeable. Since that s my skin disorder I will begin with eczema and work my way
down to pressure sores.
Eczema is a term used to describe itchy, red inflammation of the skin with oozing of fluid and
crusting, which doctors also describe as atopic dermatitis. People who have eczema usually have a
family history of asthma, hay fever and atopic dermatitis (eczema). Dermatitis affects about one in
every five people at some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The path of a mite s burrow looks like a line of tiny blisters on the skin. Larvae hatch from the eggs
and live under the skin s surface, where they develop into adult mites. Scabies is a fairly common
infectious disease that occurs sporadically and also sometimes in outbreaks. Most outbreaks occur in
nursing homes, institutions, and child care centers.
Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease marked by its effect on various parts of the body, including
the joints, skin, blood, and kidneys. It is a condition in which the body s immune system attacks its
own cells and tissues, resulting in pain, inflammation, and often damage to organs. Lupus involves
the immune system. The immune system makes antibodies that work to protect the body against
foreign substances like viruses and bacteria. Such foreign bodies are called antigens. When a
person has lupus, his or her body is unable to determine the difference between antigens and the
individual s cells and body tissues. As such, the immune system creates antibodies against the
individual s own tissues. These antibodies are called autoantibodies. Depending on the type of
lupus, a wide range of symptoms may be experienced, from rashes, hair loss, and achy, swollen
joints to fever, anemia, and abnormal blood clotting. Though the disease can affect many parts of
the body, individuals usually experience symptoms in only a few organs. There is no known cure
for lupus. However,
Anne Frank And The Holocaust
Anne Frank, a famous victim of the Holocaust said this How wonderful it is that nobody need wait
a single moment before starting to improve the world. Anne Frank was once a free woman in this
world. She didn t have to go into hiding, fear getting caught, or worse, possibly dying.

Anne Frank, a girl who survived partially of World War Two, was born in Frankfurt, Germany
June 12, 1929. After the Nazis took power in 1933, the Franks moved to Amsterdam.
Unfortunately, things took an outrageous turn for the worst. Since being Jews, the Frank family
would have to go to a horrible place, known as concentration camps. Later on, a law was passed
and all Jews had to register themselves in. That registry was for the Nazis to find out were the
Jews lived. The following spring, the Nazis yet had passed another law. The law stated that all
Jewish people had to put a yellow star on their clothing that said Jood on it. Soon after, Jewish
families were being called up to go to transit camps. From the transit camps they would go to
Concentration camps. To overcome that, the Frank Family went into hiding. The German invasion
of the Nazis started on May 10, 1940. A year later in 1941, the Franks had started making tactics and
preparations to go into hiding, before the Nazis would eventually reach them. With the help of Otto
Frank, Anne s dad and his colleagues at the Opteka Company, Otto was able to prepare a hiding
place for his family. Finally, the day had come. July, 1942, they had moved into the hiding place,
called the Secret Annex. The Franks,Van Pels, and other occupants of the hiding place hid in a
secret attic apartment on 263 Prinsengracht Street. Before the Franks, and Van Pels got there,
colleagues by the names of Johannes Kleiman, Victor Kugler , Jan Gies, and Miep Gies, had helped
set up the hiding place by smuggling food, and gathering clothing.

As read in the last paragraph, Anne Frank and her family went into hiding. They also stayed with
other Jews. Later on in the year, a man by the name of Fritz Pfeffer had moved into the Annex. He
stayed in Anne s room while Anne s sister, Margot stayed with her mother and father. During their
stay, Anne had gotten a diary earlier in the year from her father on
The Problem Of High School Students
The goal is to target several audiences, with the main target being high school students. The reason is
that high school students are still unsure what their plans are after graduation, and they are the main
individuals that use social media as a key source for news and information. High school students are
the majority of potential recruits that pursued additional sources of information online and were
unable or unwilling to find their answers from militarywebsites or talking with recruiters (Yeung and
Gifford, 2011). The other target audiences are the influencers and educators of potential recruits.
Attempt to reach out to parents, community leaders, social media bloggers, and education personnel
such as administrators, teachers, counselors, and coaches. I believe these target audience are an
appropriate source to reach out to. Recruiters across the board say they are weathering what could be
a very challenging recruiting environment thanks to close relationships they have built not just with
potential applicants, but also their parents, teachers, coaches and community leaders who influence
their decisions to join the military (Miles, 2013). The U.S. Army rarely target college students,
unemployment agencies and temporary employment agencies. This would be another one of my
targets for this campaign. Most college students find out very fast that after graduation, even with a
degree, trying to find an employer willing to hire someone without having any type of experience
Moral Dilemma Essay
A moral dilemma is to be placed in a situation which involves conflicts between moral
requirements. These situations have a very apparent conflict between moral imperatives such that
obeying one will result in transgressing the other. This paper will demonstrate choices, tragedy,
respect, individuality, and values in the following stories: The Moose and The Sparrow by Hugh
Garner, The Yellow Sweater by Hugh Garner, The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, The Painted
Door by Sinclair Ross, and David by Earle Birney A choice is something one must make frequently
throughout each and every day of ones lifetime. Some choices may be easier to make than others.

If Mathilde Loisel chose to tell Mme. Forester that she lost the necklace in the first place, Mme.
and M. Loisel wouldn t have faced as many hardships to replace the necklace. This reflects back to
honesty being the best policy. In the story The Painted Door John chose to leave Ann at home
with a snow storm on its way so that he could walk five miles to his fathers house to make sure he
would be warm and to help with the chores. John knew that Ann would be lonely, so he also chose
to walk an extra two miles to Steven s home to ask if he could keep Ann company until John
returned home. Ann chose to commit adultery. She loved John, she is dedicated to him, but she
felt neglected by him and was in desperate need for love and comfort. She chose to let Steven to
ease her emotions by taking advantage of her situation. Ann decided not to stay faithful to John, but
to give into her desires and sleep with Steven. She who now felt his air of appraisal as nothing more
than an understanding of the unfulfilled woman that until this moment had lain within her brooding
and unedited, reproved out of consciousness by the insistence of an outgrown, routine fidelity.
(page6 lines 14 17) John chose to venture back home in the storm, and when he got home it was the
middle of the night. He saw Steven and Ann lying together, sleeping side by side in bed and from
there, John chose to go back out into the storm. John chose his fate

The form of teamwork depends on task specificity. According to the definition proposed by
Hacker (see below), a distinctive feature of teamwork at the assembly line is successive work
actions to assemble different parts of a product. On the other hand, where the goal is to improve the
production process, group teamwork is much more about complexity, communication and
integrative work (O Leary Kelly, 1994). For the purposes of this study, teamwork is understood in a
broader context without drawing a distinction between teams and work groups; it thus encompasses
the following definitions: team: Groups of employees who have at least some collective tasks and
where the team members are authorised to regulate mutually the execution of these collective tasks
(Delarue, 2003); European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions,
2007 2 group work: Group work is defined by a common task requiring interdependent work and
successive or integrative action (Hacker, 1998). Cultural differences The varying cultural context in
countries may influence understanding of the term teamwork , due to different experiences in using
the term in everyday language, experiences from a person s own work, and the influence of the
media and public debate. When analysing quantitative surveys in particular, it is not possible to be
certain what respondents understand teamwork to mean, especially if the question does not offer a

As an American taxpayer I personally agree with school choice as I studied at a public school and
understand the differences between public and private education. Parents should be able to use these
state issued debit cards to decide which type of educational institution they want to send their child
to. The counterargument to this is that taxpayers money is going back into the private trust rather
than into the public school institution. School choice means providing this funding for low income
students who live in school zones with lower quality schools. If a family can, with these state issued
cards, send their child to private school, then they should be able to do so as it provides a great
opportunity for advancement. In this regard, school choice is a vehicle to help improve inner cities
and to provide options particularly for low income families trapped in failing schools (Swaby).
However, any person in charge of the education system, especially the newly appointed Betsy DeVos,
should have a very extensive background in education and should have ... Show more content on

However, not all of them have a history in education, and while this can bring diversity and different
perspectives into an educational board, it simply doesn t seem right that they are controlling
educational services if they have little to no hands on experience with the institutions they are
governing. Stricter qualifications should be required for any person looking to hold office in an
educational institution just in the same way that doctors are required to complete residencies in their
field before performing medical work and lawyers are required additional training before practicing
