Population Aging In The United States
The world population is growing older; it is going to have an enormous impact on public and
private interests. Between 2012 2050, the United States will experience considerable growth in its
more elderly population. The US Census project that by the year 2030 the population of individuals
aged 65 and over will be reached approximately 73 billion. It generates social and economic
difficulties such as the tendency of economic growth, the workforce, health care system,
immigration, and pension system (Ortman et al). Populationagingis present in every country both
developed and developing country; people are living longer than their previous generations. In 2012,
the United States had the largest number of people in the oldest old agecategory among developed
countries (Ortman et al). Much of this aging is due to the United States is facing the effect of the
retirement of the baby boomers. This generation has been completely active in the businesses and the
economic growth. However, the development of science and technology will help the balance of the
impact of changing demographics.
Pension system faces serious challenges because of the number of beneficiaries increases while the
numbers of contributors decrease at the same time. Currently, people have healthier lives which

This rapidly aging population indicate that countries will count with less working age people in
their economy. The private sector tends to discriminate people over 50 which limits their
participation in the labor force affecting the economy of countries. Businesses will soon have little
choice but to be more attentive to the needs and capacities of older employees; their ability to adapt
could become a source of competitive advantage. (Bloom et al). A huge transition is coming, and we

Sensory Processing Disorder And Developmental...
Overview:
Sensory processing, (sometimes referred to as sensory integration or SI) is a term that describes the
way the nervous system receives messages from the senses, and turns them into appropriate motor
and behavioral responses, ( Sensory processing disorder foundation, 2014). No matter the task we
are fulfilling: eating lunch, sitting in a classroom, or walking around at the mall, there is some type
of sensation involved. Be it the taste of our food, the sound of people walking by, or the bright lights
of a classroom, we are surrounded by sensory stimulation. Sensory Processing Disorder, (SPD) is a
condition that exists when sensory signals do not get organized into appropriate responses, ( Sensory
processing disorder foundation, 2014). Occupational therapist and developmental psychologist, Dr.
Anna Jean Ayres (1920 1989), Ph.D., OTR, was the first to use the term sensory integration
dysfunction in 1963 and described it as, The neurological process that organizes sensation from one s
own body and from the environment and makes it possible to use the body effectively within the
environment, (Ayres, 1972). It is sometimes referred to as a neurological traffic jam preventing
specific parts of the brain from receiving the sufficient information they need to respond to stimulus
in the environment.
People who experiences SPD have difficulty completing everyday tasks commonly referred to as the
activities of daily living, (ADLs.) These activities include
Psycho-Social Model Of Health Promotion
Health promotion and disorder prevention from the perspective of Social cognitive theory. This
theory posits a multifaceted causal shape wherein self efficacy ideals function in concert with goals,
outcome expectations, and perceived environmental impediments and facilitator within the law of
human motivation, movement, and properly being. Perceived self efficacy is a key factor in the
causal structure because it operates on motivation and action both directly and through its effect on
the other determinants. The area of overlap of cognitive determinants with the absolute most
generally connected psycho social models of healthare distinguished. Social cognitive theory
addresses the socio structural determinants of health as well as the personal... Show more content on

Further development on this discipline requires building new structures for health promotion, new
systems for risk reduction and greater emphasis on health coverage tasks. People s ideals in their
collective efficacy to carry out social change, therefore, play a key place within the policy and public
health perspective to health promoting and disease prevention. The recent years have witnessed
major changes in the conception of human health and illness from a disorder model, to a health
version. it is simply as significant to speak of level of vitality as of degrees of impairment. the health
model, therefore, focuses on health promotion as well as disease prevention. lifestyle habits exert a
major impact on the quality of human health. Current health practices focus mainly on the supply
side by reducing, rationing, and curtailing access to health care services to contain health costs. The
social cognitive method approach works the on demand side through helping human beings in
imitation of stay healthful through proper self management of health habits.By exercising control
over countless health habits people can live longer, healthier, and slow the process of biological
The Atomic Bomb Of The United States Essay
On Monday July 16th, 1945, a countdown for the detonation of the first atomic bomb took place
near Los Alamos, New Mexico. This atomic bomb testing would forever change the meaning of
war. As the atomic bomb was detonated it sent shock waves all over the world. There was endless
research done on the bomb in the United States. The research was called The Manhattan Engineer
District Project but it was more commonly known as The Manhattan Project.
The Manhattan Project was brought by fear of Germany and its atomic research. On account of the
fear of Germany the United States took action upon testing their own atomic bomb. Once the bomb
was tested, the United States had to decide whether it should be used and if so, where? Then there
was the process of dropping the bomb. The Manhattan Project was overall one of the highest and
most significant projects ever done in the United States.
The United States government was shocked by the news of German scientists discovering nuclear
fission. The news came to the United States from Albert Einstein. Einstein found out the nuclear
fission information from a German physicist named Leo Szilard. He then told it to President
Franklin D. Roosevelt and urged him to start an investment toward atomic research. The research
would then help construct an atomic weapon of mass destruction. Roosevelt was not especially
concerned about investing in atomic weapon research because he didn t plan on getting involved in
the War.

Stoic Radicalism
Halfway There: Stoic Radicalism and Inaction Stoicism s primary differentiating feature from other
varieties of Greco Roman philosophy is its assertion that the individual has absolute control over
some aspects of their life and absolute powerlessness to affect others. The thinking that follows is
that the only concern for humans should be that which we individually can control the rest can be
regarded as up to chance and therefore irrelevant to ideal human behavior. Stoicismtherefore
dismisses, even rejects, the ideas of natural superiority and inferiority, constructs that defined much
of the Roman social political system. However, despite this egalitarian premise, the Stoic emphasis
on individual agency irrespective of individual circumstance... Show more content on

As something not up to us , social position does not reflect any true qualities of the supposed
superiors and inferiors. Seneca s writing on slavery makes this feeling explicit. His condemnation
of cruelty toward slaves relies on a denial of the Aristotelian premise of natural slavery. In Seneca
s view, slaves are slaves by accident (Seneca 194), not fault. Accordingly, they should be treated as
comrades or humble friends (Seneca 191), as is moral. He reiterates this belief toward the end of
the essay noting that a slave may be a free man in spirit , and therefore should be treated no worse
than a free man (Seneca 194). Similarly, Epictetus instructs Do not be joyful about any superiority
that is not your own (Epictetus 6), which recalls his earlier statement that our possessions, our
reputations, or our public offices fall into this category. In application of this view, he draws a
distinction between the statements: I am richer than you; therefore, I am superior to you and I am
richer than you; therefore, my property is superior to yours (Epictetus 44), the former being invalid
and the latter being evidently true. Contained within this view Is necessarily that property or wealth
do not, and cannot make one person better than another, and, as Epictetus asks earlier in his
handbook, What does [wealth and luxury] amount to? (Epictetus 24), indicating a similar rejection
of material hierarchy. Moreover, he places wealth at odds with preserving your trustworthiness and
self respect giving these internal traits preference over external wealth. This evidences Stoic belief
in the capacitive equivalency of all people. The implication of the statement is that the truly valuable
traits are just as accessible to the poor as to the rich, and potentially more so because the

impactful and influential scientific researchers of the 20th century thus making him the most

What Fleming was particularly interested in was the concept that even though people do obtain
bacterial infections at times, majority of the time the human body prevents bacterial infections from
affecting the body. During this researching period, Fleming graduated St. Mary s Medical School
once again with a Bachelor of Bacteriology at the same time receiving the gold medal for the top
student (Maurois, 1956). In 1914 Fleming concluded his research under Almroth Wright s guidance
and unknowingly continued his journey on to becoming the man with the answer to the biggest
human health issue at the time (Maurois, 1956)

In a time when antibiotics were not up to par with bacterial infections, someone, somewhere, needed
to find the answer to getting rid of the bacterial infections that were killing people all over the
world. Bacterial Meningitis was causing children to die or obtain a permanent disease, strep throat,
pneumonia, laryngitis, ear infections were travelling to the brain (2006). That was just the start of
the infections that were causing serious illness or death of people everywhere. Bacteria reproduces at
hyper speed and no proper treatments were discovered. So, who would this miracle person be? In
1914, during World War I, Alexander Fleming joined the army and became a Captain in the Royal
Army Medicals Corps where he worked as a

Dorothy Johnson s Theory Of The Behavioral System Model
The behavioral system model is a model developed by Dorothy Johnson. This theory was influenced
by Florence Nightingale s book titled notes on nursing and was developed using work of behavioral
scientists in many disciplines such as psychology, sociology, and ethnology. This theory explains that
nurse s specific contribution to patient welfare is to foster an efficient and effective behavioral
functioning in the person, before, during, and after an illness.
The theory sees a person as a system in which its parts interrelate with each other to form a whole to
perform its functions. These interrelated and interdependent parts are called subsystem which is
analyzed and described in term of structural and functional requirement. There are seven subsystems
attachment, attachment affiliation, aggressive protective, dependency, ingestive, eliminative, and
sexual with each of them interrelated with the others and its environment for three functional
requirements protection, nurturance, and stimulation. The four structural elements of the subsystem
include the following: drive (the ultimate cause of behavior), set (a tendency or predisposition to act
in a certain way), choice (behavior to use in a certain situation) and action (behavior of an
individual). These requirements must be met through a person s efforts or with the outside
assistance of the nurse to maintain the integrity of the behavioral system.
Also, the model made some assumptions for a better understanding of the

Celebration of St. Patrick s Day was to remember Maewyn Succat, who spread Christianity
throughout Ireland. St. Patrick s Day started when a boy, at age 16, was kidnapped into slavery
and brought to Ireland. While there he learned the religion of the Druids. He later escaped, but
then later came back to Ireland because of a supposed vision from God calling him back to Ireland.
As soon as he returned, he started telling everyone about Christ, using their sacred Celtic symbols
and turning them into symbols of Christianity. For example, the three leaf clover, which symbolized
the balancing of forces, was used to describe the Trinity. After this event the Irish made Maewyn
Succat a bishop and gave him the name Saint Patrick after his death. Surprisingly, the celebrating of
St. Patrick s Day was not really enforced in Ireland, but was more enforced when Irish emigrated to
America. Today we dye rivers green, have parades, set leprechaun traps, and wear green.

Changing The Face Of Mental Health
Changing The Face of Mental Health
Crystelle Rivas
Kaplan University Changing The Face of Mental Health
Mental illness plays a significant role in homelessness across America. Nearly 25% of the homeless
population in the United States suffers from some form of severe mental illness (National Coalition
for the Homeless, 2009). Because people with severe mental handicaps have a harder time
integrating into society without the help of trained professionals, a large number of these individuals
become homeless or have placement issues. For this reason, mental health centers have been placed
in communities across the country in an effort to give these people a foundation for growth and
recovery. Since the mental health centers have limited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The living conditions offered to the patients were basic and would be considered unsuitable by any
of today s standards. Not only did the institution have their patients sleeping on cots and sharing
rooms, they also did not offer any meaningful therapies to help. In essence, patients were drugged
and warehoused with their care in the hands of a team which consisted of the entire staff, including
the janitor (Milwaukee County Asylum, 2013). Because this process was a typical occurrence in
most mental health institutions across America, they earned a bad reputation being known as snake
pits and got national attention.
In October of 1963, President John F. Kennedy signed his last piece of legislation, which was meant
to free thousands of patients from the unspeakable living conditions they endured in institutions.
President Kennedy s vision was to give these mentally disabled people their dignity, along with more
humane care, and offer actual therapy. Unfortunately, President Kennedy was unable to see the bill
through and help it along some of the more difficult obstacles it faced because he was assassinated a
short three weeks after its signing. Although Kennedy s bill changed the mental health industry
significantly, only half of the community treatment centers were built due to funding issues.
Waukesha County opened the doors to its mental health center in 1989 taking in the people with
mental health issues and unruly behavior. To get a better
What Is The Criticism Of Adorno
Adorno contrasts Benjamin s theory. Adorno, in his writings states that he believes technology and

Shaping of Cultural Values Through Environment in The Left Hand of Darkness, The Fellowship of
the Ring, and Dune

Ursuala K. LeGuin s The Left Hand of Darkness was written after J.R.R. Tolkien s The Fellowship
of the Ring and Frank Herbert s Dune. One of the most interesting comparisons between the three
novels is how the authors treat the issue of cross cultural misunderstandings. All three works contain
many incidents where people of one race or planet encounter people of a different race or from a
different planet. Tolkien treats this issue in a specisitc or physiological manner. The cultural
misunderstandings and clashes that arise in The Fellowship of the Ring are due to the differing

leads to misunderstanding and suspicion of others. Sandyman goes on to say He s [Bilbo] often

old wandering conjour, Gandalf, and all. You can say what you like, Gaffer, but Bag End s a

physiology are apparent throughout Tolkien s trilogy. The distrust between dwarves and elves, the
tension between elves and men, and the reluctance of the ents to get involved with non ent business
are a few examples. Many of these misconceptions and misunderstandings are overcome to defeat
the forces of evil, however, the physiological differences among characters are one major roadblock
towards the unity of good in the trilogy.

Herbert takes a different approach to cultural misunderstands in Dune. The cultural misconceptions
and misunderstands in his world are due not to physiology, but environment. The environments of
