FCE TEST 5 SPEAKING SAMPLE

PART 1 (Pick 1 out of 3 topics)

Travel

Do you enjoy long journeys? (What do you do to pass the time?)

Yes, I enjoy long journeys sometimes. To pass the time, I usually listen to music or
read a book. Sometimes, I watch movies on my phone. It makes the journey feel
shorter and more fun.

Do you have to travel far every day? (Where do you have to go?)
No, I don’t travel far every day. I go to school, which is not far from my home, about
20 minutes by bus. It’s a comfortable journey.

Do you prefer to travel by car or public transport? (Why?)

I prefer to travel by public transport because it is cheaper and I can relax. I don’t have
to worry about driving or parking. Also, I can meet other people on the bus or train.

Tell us about an interesting place you’ve travelled to.

An interesting place I’ve travelled to is a beach called Sunny Beach. It is very
beautiful with white sand and clear blue water. I enjoyed swimming there and
watching the sunset. The food was also delicious, especially the seafood.

Study or Work

What good memories do you have of school?

I have many good memories of school. I remember having fun with my friends during
lunch. We played games and told jokes. I also liked my art classes because I could be
creative.

Is there anything you would like to study in the future? (Why?)

I would like to study psychology in the future because I am interested in how people
think and feel. I want to help others understand their emotions and improve their lives.

Have you ever had a part-time job? (What do/did you do? Do/Did you enjoy it?)
Yes, I had a part-time job in a café. I served coffee and helped customers. I enjoyed it
because I met many nice people and learned how to work in a team.

Would you prefer to work for a big or small company? (Why?)

I would prefer to work for a small company because I think it’s more personal. I like
the idea of knowing my coworkers well and having more responsibility. In a small
company, I can learn more quickly.

Sports and Hobbies

Do you prefer individual sports or team sports? (Why?)

I prefer team sports because they are more fun and social. I enjoy playing with friends
and working together to win. It makes me feel connected to others.

Which is the most popular sport in your country? (Why do you think it’s
popular?)
The most popular sport in my country is football. I think it’s popular because many
people enjoy watching it and playing it. It brings people together during matches,
especially during big tournaments.

How much time do you spend listening to music? (What kind of music do you
like?)
I spend about one hour every day listening to music. I like pop and rock music
because they are energetic and make me feel happy. I also enjoy some slow songs
when I want to relax.

Do you enjoy playing computer games in your free time? (Why? / Why not?)
Yes, I enjoy playing computer games in my free time because they are exciting and
fun. I like to play with my friends online. It’s a good way to relax after studying.
PART 2: DESCRIBE THE PICTURES

In the first picture (5A), there is a group of people on a boat touring in a foreign city.

The surrounding buildings look modern and beautiful. The tourists are enjoying

nature, like trees and fresh air. In the second picture (5B), maybe from history. The

guide is speaking, and the tourists are listening and taking photos. They seem happy

because they can see famous ancient places and learn about the city.

For me, I will choose the first activity because I enjoy learning new things from the

guides and seeing beautiful scenery.

In the first picture (5C), there is a group of people playing volleyball indoors. They

are wearing sportswear and look very active. Maybe they choose volleyball because it

is fun and a good way to exercise with friends. In the second picture (5D), two people

are riding bicycles in the mountains. The scenery looks very beautiful with trees and

hills. Cycling here is probably exciting and healthy.

For me, I might choose cycling because I love to enjoy nature and adventure.
PART 3: Is it important to keep up to date with all the changes in the world?

Choose two things and discuss.

Discussion Points (Choose 2 out of 5)

1. Technology: Keeping up with technological advancements is crucial as they

affect daily life and job opportunities. New tools and platforms can improve

efficiency and connectivity.

2. Music: Music trends change rapidly, and staying updated can enhance cultural

understanding. It allows people to connect with others through shared tastes

and experiences.
3. Fashion: Fashion reflects societal changes and can influence self-expression.

Being aware of trends can help people feel confident and relevant in social

settings.

4. Education: Educational methods and resources evolve. Keeping up to date

ensures that individuals can access the best learning opportunities and adapt to

new teaching styles.

5. The News: Staying informed about current events is vital for understanding the

world. It helps individuals make informed decisions and engage in meaningful

discussions.

PART 4: OPINION QUESTIONS

1. Some people say that we spend too much time checking for updates on social
networking websites. Do you agree? (Why? / Why not?)

Yes, I agree because many people, especially young ones, check social media many

times a day. They do it during meals, work, or even before sleeping. It can waste time

and make people less productive. But sometimes, social media is useful for news or

talking to friends, so not all time is wasted.

2. Do you think the best way to keep up to date with changes in the world is to
watch television? (Why? / Why not?)

TV is good for news, but not the best way because now we have the internet, which is

faster. Many people watch TV only in the evening, but on phones, we can check news

anytime. Also, some TV channels are not always fair, but online we can read different

opinions.

3. Some people say the world is changing so fast that we can’t keep up to date
with everything. Do you agree? (Why? / Why not?)
Yes, I agree because technology and news change every day. For example, new apps,

trends, or global problems appear quickly. It’s impossible to know everything, so

people just focus on what’s important for them, like work or hobbies.

4. How important is it for people to have change in their lives?

Change is important because it makes life more interesting. For example, learning new

skills or traveling to new places can make people happier. But too much change can be

stressful, so balance is best—some routines, but also some new experiences.

5. Some people don’t like it when things change. Why do you think that is?

Maybe because change is uncomfortable. For example, older people often prefer old

habits, like using cash instead of phones for payment. They feel safe with familiar

things. Also, big changes, like moving cities, can be scary because you don’t know

what will happen.

6. Do you think people these days are only interested in new things and ignore
history and tradition? (Why? / Why not?)

Not everyone, but yes, many people focus on new things like technology and forget

traditions. For example, young people prefer video games over traditional festivals.

But some still value history, like visiting museums or celebrating cultural holidays. It

depends on the person.
