Skills, and Technologies), some of the topics that students learn about include the risks and benefits of
entrepreneurship, the role of social entrepreneurship, including in First Nations communities, and sources of
financing for a new venture or start-up business. They also learn marketing strategies using the 4 Ps: product,
price, promotion, and placement, as well as evolving consumer needs and wants, and the role of online
technologies in expanding access to goods and services. The online version of this course allows students to work
independently at a pace that best suits them, while requiring careful time management and developing
communication and critical thinking skills.

ARTS EDUCATION 9 Term: PROFICIENT

Final: DEVELOPING
Jeffrey Meville
https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/curriculum/arts-education/9

Our Arts 9 rotation focused on Visual Arts in the second half of the semester. Students were exposed to the
elements of Art, famous movements that have shaped its past and future, and an introduction to photography,
including the power of AI and post-processing software.

Karina is a very capable student but unfortunately struggled with getting down to the task at hand and minimizing
distractions. Karina needs to ensure all assignments are turned in for assessment, attending and participating
fully and making better choices with how class time is used to increase standing in the future.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS 9 Term: EMERGING

Final: DEVELOPING
Justin Fraser
https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/curriculum/english-language-arts/9

Karina displays a partial understanding of the content and curricular competencies explored in class. As
demonstrated through class discussions, Karina collaborates well with others to build upon and extend their
thinking. This is evidence of their emerging recognition of First Peoples Principles of Learning, especially as it
concerns communal learning that is respectful, relational, and reciprocal. Additionally, they are developing their
understanding of the power of language in music lyrics to help us become critically engaged citizens. Karina is
encouraged to continue developing their ability to synthesize by analyzing and making connections between
multiple texts. This will improve their ability to express an opinion and support it with convincing and credible
evidence from multiple sources. Overall, Karina works well with others and positively contributes to the learning
environment and community.

1) Polynomials
2) Linear Relations: Patterns and Graphing
3) Solving Linear Equations
4) Unit Conversions and Scale Factor

Do/Understand:
Karina has demonstrated an emerging ability to:
-simplify polynomials using mathematical operations (+, -, x, ÷)
-visualize to explore mathematical concepts
-represent mathematical ideas in concrete, pictorial, and symbolic forms
-determine a linear equation using a pattern/table of values
-graph a linear equation
-solve multi-step linear equations and word problems
-determine the scale factor of a model of an object
-use a scale factor to determine the dimensions of similar objects

Next:
Karina has minimally met the learning outcomes for this course. Karina was quiet and would have benefitted from
asking more questions. Karina was a nice student to have in class. Have a great summer!

Workplace Math 10 is the next recommended math course. If Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus 10 is
the desired math course, it is recommended that Karina has someone that can provide one on one math support

SCIENCE 9 Term: DEVELOPING

Final: DEVELOPING
Jennifer Fan
https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/curriculum/science/9

In this reporting period we covered topics in

Core focus: BIOLOGY
- Mitosis
- Different forms (fission, budding, cloning, spores, grafting)
- Meiosis (process through which sex cells (eggs and sperm) are formed by the dividing of a parent cell twice,
resulting in four daughter cells)
- Human sexual reproduction

Core Focus: CHEMISTRY

- Element properties as organized in the periodic table
- Arrangement of electrons determines the compounds formed by elements

Core Focus: PHYSICS

- Circuits (basic components include power source, load/resistor (lightbulbs, etc.), conductor and switch; types
of circuits include series, parallel, short circuits; current flow in a circuit: alternating current (AC) and direct
current (DC); must be complete for electrons to flow
- Voltage, current, and resistance

Karina has developing skills in Science 9 biology, chemistry and physics concepts and vocabulary.
Karina has worked on numerous assignments and projects to demonstrate learning since the last report, such as
participating in chemistry labs, creating a timeline of electricity, building circuits for a shoebox light house.

Next steps: Karina is encouraged to continue working on improving work habits for future classes, including:
-reducing distractions such as using cellphones in class
-working on completing and handing in assignments in a timely manner.

SPANISH 11 Term: 52% (C-)

Final: 52% (C-)

Rosa Becerril

This term our focus has been on the communicative context which determines how we express ourselves. By
knowing increasingly complex
vocabulary and sentence structures including sequence of events in stories, students were able to talk about their
childhood and, as a culminating project, create a bilingual children's book about a day in the life of an animal with
and for a "little buddy" from Lord Kelvin Elementary.

Karina is proficient in expressing themselves in the past tense differentiating between both the past simple and
past continuous being a native speaker. They have an inconsistent work ethic however which has affected her
standing. They also struggled with following criteria and reading instructions carefully. They missed a total of 13
classes.

It has been a pleasure to have them in the class.

Attendance: Absent: 13 Late: 7

SOCIAL STUDIES 9 Term: EMERGING

Final: F
Jonathan Ballin
https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/curriculum/social-studies/9

This term in Social Studies, our class learned about Napoleon Bonaparte and the spread of revolutionary ideas;
the Industrial Revolution and the impact of technological changes on people's lives; and Canadian history from
1812-1886, including the War of 1812, Confederation, the formation of B.C., and the Louis Riel Rebellions. Some
themes covered included nationalism, imperialism, U.S.A.-Canada relations, Indigenous-settler relations, English-
French Canadian relations and the impacts of technological and political changes. Karina did not hand in the write
up that went with the trial of Louis Riel. The following curricular competencies were not adequately demonstrated:
understand the prevailing perspectives that existed at the time of the Louis Riel trial, weigh the evidence in the
trial, and ethically judge Louis Riel.

Karina did not meet the minimum curricular competencies for a variety of assignments. She was well behaved in
the classroom, but often avoided doing work and tried to leave class for extended periods of time without
permission.

Physical and Health Education 9 introduces students to the concepts of fitness literacy and fitness theory. The goal
is to educate students to become independent in managing and practicing physical fitness. The course also
explores nutrition, sleep, and other key principles of a healthy lifestyle. Students are assessed on their
understanding of physical and health theory through ten Exercises/Quizzes and three Activity Logs, in which
students record 30 hours of physical activities they have completed. The online version of this course enables
students to work independently at a pace that suits them best, while requiring careful time management and
developing essential communication and critical thinking skills.
We have embedded ReadSpeaker in our online courses to improve students' reading comprehension, retention of
materials, and study skills. Watch the video (https://youtu.be/S5r6O4kpu6U) to learn more about using
