over educated (Sicherman, 1991). Although previous studies have lightly focused on how over
education affects earnings, studies either focus on the US labour market (Rumberger 1987) or
when they do focus on the UK, its effect are assessed only for ethnic minorities. (Lindley 2009). A
focus on an aggregated scale of all races will supplement the literature where I intend to test
whether immigrants are likely to be more over qualified than UK born citizens and then compare the

until its control covered almost all of Italy around 264 B.C.E. To the Romans, their political

because, when they conquered smaller societies the Romans allowed the conquered societies to
rule themselves. Rome would also grant citizenship to non Romans so long as the conquered

As European desire grew for products including sugar, cotton and rice, the demand for plantation
labor also increased. African slave labor was cheap among European standards, leading to the

Therefore, an educator needs to know the areas to focus that will produce the best results and help
the student learn. Results from various studies have shown that besides intelligence the ability to
sequence, analyze, and remember sounds are the biggest contributors to reading achievement
(Smith, 2003). In view of these finding it is important to isolate the fields within this area that will
have the greatest impact and help direct the learning strategies. A study along these lines was

dyslexia with the same age and reading level control group of children to measure the affect and
strength of correlation between verbal short memory, rime awareness and phonemic awareness on a
child s word reading abilities.

COLLECTIVE LEARNING:

cultivates critical thinking and mastery of concepts. As an instructor, I have experienced with
various active learning methods to keep my students engaged and motivated. Within the pedagogy
toolbox, I found the element of discovery to be the most effective way of teaching. In my classes,
before even explaining a new concept, I usually pose a question to class and ask my students to find
a solution. I ask my students to work in pairs (and sometimes groups) to come up with a solution
without them knowing the new concepts. The idea is to assist them to discover the new concepts by
