shocked along with the rest of the school when Susan Caraway, also known as Stargirl joins the
school. Instead of being trying to sink into the crowds like any new student usually would, she stands
out. This behavior is immediately gaped at, and shunned by the students of Mica high school, but
soon people stare in wonder at Stargirls feats and actions. Stargirlquickly becomes extremely
popular. She also has numerous number friends and followers that try to be more like her.. Leo
doesn t really realize it but he is slowly falling in love with Stargirl. Even as the rest of the school
drifts away from Stargirl and her popularity decreases, Leo stays trapped in her aura. Leo And
Stargirl soon start going on walks together and sharing deep information with each other. Leo is
amazed at Stargirls ability to take in the world as if every detail matters. She cries at the sight of
an old man smiling on a bench with a military pin, and she laughs with joy when she sees an ant
on the sidewalk working hard for his colony. Then all of sudden Stargirl s popularity drops to an
all time low. Everybody in the school, even the people who don t really know Leo shun him and
Stargirl to an extreme. They won t talk to them, they won t answer to them, and when Leo and

New York City Public Transportation System
Beginning in June of 1952, when the Metropolitan Transportation Authority was founded, advances
in transportation in New York City have improved the city s developing economy and have
benefitted people to a great extent. Located in the heart of Manhattan, the MTA headquarters are
home to hundreds of different vehicles, ridden by thousands daily. The train tracks and bus routes
run through Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and the Bronx, unifying all five
boroughs and improving the lives of everyone Beginning at $0.05 and going up to $2.50, one way
bus fare has slowly been increasing since the MTA was founded. Although the cost depends mainly
on how far the vehicle is traveling, this is the standard expense and the difference is significant.
This cost is beneficial to travellers because it is inexpensive, and convenient for day to day use.
Along with convenience, there are multiple economic benefits to using New York City public
transportation. Pollution can become less of a problem, because travellers aren t taking
individual cars throughout the state. The system is reliable for workers and travellers, making
New York City a busy tourist area. The schedules are clearly posted, along with dozens of different
times of the day to make travelling less of a hassle. There is arguably less stress on the commuter
about traffic on the streets and less worrying about time since the transportation system is reliable.
The problem of finding a place to park on the busy
Essay On National Living Wage
A new national living wage was announced by the Chancellor, Philip Hammond during the 2017
Autumn Budget. It means a significant increase in the national minimum wage for workers aged
25 years and over, which will see the national living wage rise from £7.50 currently to £7.83 as of
April 1st 2018. Workers will benefit from a 4.4% increase due to the change. (Monro, 2017)
The national living wage is a compulsory minimum wage per hour that is paid to employees aged 25
and over. The government seeks advice from the Low Pay Commission on how to set out and
achieve the new national living wage. The Low Pay Commission is an independent body who
submit a report to the government each October making recommendations on the future level of the
national living wage alongside the national minimum wage rates and other related matters.
However, the government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their Real Living Wage is set at £8.75 per hour for workers aged 18 years and over (Living Wage
Foundation, No Date), as young people face the same living costs as others. Employees have
shown support for this and 3000 employers have signed up and pledged to pay their workers the
Real Living Wage despite no legal obligation (Living Wage Foundation, No Date). The news of an
increased national living wage has the potential for a number of benefits and drawbacks for the
economy.
There is a strong case for the new living wage to be implemented. It may help to reduce poverty, as
the introduction of an increased rate of pay will increase the lowest of salaries which will, in turn
raise the income of such workers and this results in them having more disposable income and
therefore spending ability. This all leads to higher consumption within the economy. It can also
increase labour productivity as higher wages will motivate workers to perform better. This
Theodore Fujita s Life
If you always do what interests you, at least one person is pleased (Katharine Hepburn). This was
true for Doctor Tetsuya Theodore Fujita. All the way up to his death he studied that which interested
him. Even being ill and bedridden didn t stop him. A colleague James Partacz was quoted saying that
[h]e did research from his bed till the very end . It was on October 23, 1920 that Tetsuya Fujita was
born. He lived on the island of Kyushu in Kitakyushu City, the southernmost island of Japan. His
mother, Tomojiro Fujita, and father, Yoshie Fujita, named him Tetsuya, meaning philosopher . At a
young age Fujita became interested in maps after he taught himself surveying techniques. A clever
child, Heidorn mentions that in his youth he visited... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With help from the National Severe Storms Laboratory, he studied thousands of miles of damage
created by hundreds occurring in April 1974. He discovered that downdrafts from the storms had
enough strength to reach the ground and create unique damage patterns. His theory was met with
skepticism until in 1978 when the National Center for Atmospheric Research aided him in his
research. They went to Chicago and detected 52 downbursts in 42 days. Fujita showed that damage
that had thought to be done by tornadoes was actually caused by downbursts. Fujita was quoted
saying that After I pointed out the existence of downbursts, the number of tornadoes [listed] in the

Severe Childhood Gastroenteritis
Rotavirus represents the leading cause of severe childhood gastroenteritis. Every year rotavirus is
thought to be responsible for approximately 25 million clinic visits, two million hospital admissions,
and more than 800 thousand deaths in children under the age of five globally. Although this disease
has a worldwide distribution, most deaths occur in the developing countries.

It is hard to distinguish gastroenteritis caused by rotavirus from other enteric pathogens. Therefore
establishing an adequate diagnosis requires testing of fecal specimens with commercially available
assays. Still, rotavirus is not routinely sought in patients with gastroenteritis because the results do
not alter clinical management, which mostly mainly requires appropriate rehydration therapy. ...

Thus, the history should include the duration of illness, urination frequency, the nature of stools, the
type of emesis, the presence of fever and the assessment of mental status.

Three principal examination signs for determining dehydration in children are an abnormal skin
turgor, abnormal respiratory pattern, as well as prolonged capillary refill time. Different scales are
used to assess dehydration, and the one from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is most
commonly employed. Parental report of the child s symptoms can also aid significantly.

Serum electrolyte measurement is usually not required in children with mild to moderate
dehydration. The child s weight during the illness in comparison with the weight after treatment is
used to retrospectively determine the degree of dehydration. Urine specific gravity and blood urea
nitrogen measurements are poor markers of dehydration.

Doris Day History Dbq Analysis
In the 1950s, postwar we saw a huge effort for the reconstruction of families. The roles of each
person in the family had a purpose. The roles were specific and to stray from it would not have
been good for the family image. Women were the homemakers who waited on their families every
need. While this trend was growing another trend opposing it grew as well. We lived in a
conservative time but many women did not always fall into the homemaker category. Not all
women were married. Not all women had the family so new trends started to pop up. Beauty
pageants, Barbie s and Marilyn Monroewere some of the biggest and or sexiest trends to come
about. The sex appeal of women changed during this era but icons made a huge difference. They
have molded what we are today and what women have evolved into. Doris Day was what an
independent womanwas supposed to be like. She gave that image but she was not married and she
did have a sex appeal to her that was not common. The other three icons broke that mold but Doris
Day created the gateway for these icons.
Beauty pageants were made to bring everyone together. Like the Super Bowl and the Emmys, the
contest has become part of America s mythological consciousness, a point of pride and societal
longing. (Ronnie D. Lankford, 1999 2005). The beauty of the 51 individuals wasn t a bad thing
either especially since the women were running around practically naked. The process of beautiful
women being judge purely on looks during a time when
Dehydration Of Sulfuric Acid And Phosphoric Acid
Dehydration of 2 methylcyclohexanol Authors: Johnny Presley Abstract: Dehydration of 2
methylcyclohexanol to 3 methylcyclohexene is simple distillation where dehydration was used to
prepare the final product. The results of the experiment showed that the 3 methylcyclohexene
was formed via an E1 reaction from 2 methylcyclohexanol with a 1:1 ratio of sulfuric acid and
phosphoric acid. However, some H2O was left over, which was seen when we look at the IR and
see a small water peak. This could be due to the fact that not enough sodium sulfate was added and
not for long enough. These results were confirmed by the quality tests that showed that a
precipitate formed when KMnO4 was added to the solution and in the IR spectroscopy peaks
showed peaks at 3022.62cm 1 which matches an alkene, further showing that the formation of 3
methylcyclohexene was successful with a percent yield of 56.46%. Introduction: The major
reaction that happened was an E1 reaction (otherwise known as a unimolecular elimination
reaction). In this reaction the removal of an HX substituent group results in the formation of a
double bond via beta hydrogen elimination4. In an E1 reaction the deprotonation of hydrogen in
the beta position occurs and from here a carbocation is formed, which results in the formation of an
alkene product. This happens when the OH group on the 2 methylcyclohexanol is hydrated by
H2SO4, which allows the OH to become an H2O. Since H20 is a better leaving group now it will
The Italian Mob And The Russian Mafia
When people think of organized crime they think of the Italian mob and the Russian mafia. They
are the ones that they see in movies and on television, and the ones that they hear about the most.
However, they were created a couple centuries after their Asian counterparts, the Yakuza in Japan,
and the Triads in China. These Asian syndicates were founded in the sixteenth and seventeenth
century and consisted of merchants and other people in what was basically the middle class. They
were just groups of poorer people who were just looking for protection or were trying to help other
people. The first organized crimesyndicates were a kind of Robin Hood, they helped the poor. They
weren t big or powerful, and they didn t have large numbers. The... Show more content on

The heaviest presence is in New York City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Chicago. The most well
known group though, is still the Italian Mafia.
The Italian Mafia in the U.S. can trace its origins all the way back to the Sicilian Mafia which
was founded in Sicily during the 1800 s (Italian Organized Crime). After thousands of years of
different armies with different nationalities conquering Italy and exploiting its people, the
Sicilians became to be more clannish and family focused. Originally they were just resistance
fighters that were protecting their friends and family. They were relied on for protection, justice,
and survival. Nobody cared if they got money from it because it came from the oppressive
authorities. Members of these groups were known as Men of Honor and they were well
respected and even admired because they looked out for their family and kept silent sometimes
even unto death. They didn t become an organized crime group until the 1920 s however (Italian
Organized Crime). It was around this same time that the US began to see what later became La
Cosa Nostra or our thing, better known as the American Mafia which was aided by the thousands
of Italian organized crime figures, mostly Sicilian Mafiosi who came to the United States illegally
(Italian Organized Crime). The modern American Mafia is credited to Charles Lucky Luciano who
came over in the 1920 s (Italian Organized Crime). Luciano structured La Cosa Nostra just like their

Essay on Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Biography of Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Franklin Delano Roosevelt, popularly known as FDR, was born on January 30, 1882 at the
family estate in Hyde Park, New York. His father, James, graduated from Harvard Law School,
married, had a son, and took over his family?s rights in coal and transportation. Despite the fact
that he lost a good deal of money in financial gambles, he remained wealthy enough to travel by
private railroad car, to live comfortably on his Hudson River estate at Hyde Park, and to travel at
length. After his first wife died, James waited four years to remarry to Sara Delano, a sixth cousin.
She was also a member of the Hudson River aristocracy, and although she was only half of James?

Tennis and golf, at which he excelled, were not considered important? (Miller 27). However he
was liked enough for someone home schooled his whole life, and FDR displayed his ability to
adapt to situations. In addition, one of the most important virtues that FDR would ever attain came
from his years at Groton: his belief that the children of the upper class had a duty to give back to the
lesser fortunate.
FDR then went on to Harvard University, from 1900 to 1904, where he performed only slightly
better than he had at Groton. Thanks to his tremendous preparation at Groton, however, FDR was
able to complete his course study for his B.A. in 1903, only three years. During his fourth year he
was editor of the Crimson, the college newspaper, but he was not admitted to the most prestigious
social club. He did not receive much inspiration in the classroom, and he displayed no excitement
about his studies. While he was at Harvard FDR fell in love with Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, his fifth
cousin once removed. Eleanor came from a troubled past, but grew up in the same aristocracy that
FDR himself had. On March 17, 1905, the two were married. The marriage worked well enough,
with Eleanor giving birth to five children within the first 11 years of their marriage. Having both
been born into wealth, neither Roosevelt had any problem mixing with the aristocracy of the New
York area. Despite often periods of unhappiness, Eleanor stayed true to Franklin for the 40 years of
Essay On Non Violence
How did non violence help the equality in the world?
Nonviolence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind. It is mightier than the mightiest weapon
of destruction devised by the ingenuity of man. this is one of the most famous quotes from Mahatma
Gandhi. Therefore, nonviolent conflicts is to win over the opposing side by peruading them into
agreeing on the subject that which the matter is presented. As a method of preforming a nonviolent
conflict is that giving the opposing side to change their mind or have to give the protesters wants
and needs. For nonviolents conflicts does not want the opposing side to suffer but, they want them
to sweat in order to get what they want for the cause. Nonviolents shows that violents is nearly

Red Scare, KKK, Civil War Brought Fear to America
Fear The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear
is fear of the unknown. H. P. Lovecraft. In the 1900 s, fear drove America. The Red Scare was a
time when Americans were afraid of the threat of Communism. In the Sacco and Vanzetti case, two
Italian anarchists were convicted of crimes which they were clearly innocent of. The Ku Klux Klan
attempted to keep African Americans out of positions of power and for brief time was successful.
The Red Scare, Sacco Vanzetti case and the rise of the KKK all are example of how American s fear
the unknown and what we don t understand.

After Red Scare is the term the fear of Communism in America held in the 1900 s. Following World
War I, The Soviet Union, led by Joseph Stalin, began taking over countries and putting in
Communist governments. To make fear worse the Czechoslovakia was taken over by by the
soviet union having spy s inside the Czechoslovakian government as high ranking officials. This
put the fear of God in Americans because we didn t know who could have been a Communist spy
sent here by Russia destroy America. Few periods in American history have been so dramatic, so
fraught with mystery or so brothing with fear and hysteria as were the days of the great Red Scare.
(Robert K. Murray). Also we saw a rash of accusations by man named Joseph Mccarthy used his
tactic of Mccarthyism to accuse many innocent Americans of being Communist.
