The Oppression of Miranda in The Tempest Essay
The Oppression of Miranda in The Tempest

Miranda s schooling in The Tempest shows the audience the conflicting arrangement white women in
the Shakespearean drama as well as Shakespearean times are forced to act within. Paul Brown points
out that the discourse of sexuality...offers the crucial nexus for the various domains of colonialist
discourse (208) and the conduct in Prospero manipulates his followers sexuality is the mainstay of
his power. The Miranda Prospero relationship servers to represent a sort of patriarchy, which is
unarguably the system many Renaissance women and women of Shakespeare s time found
themselves in. It is thus unsurprising that Prospero controls Miranda and her sexuality as well. The ...

As a Renaissance woman protagonist, she acts within an completely male world: I do not know
/ One of my sex; no woman s face remember (3.1.48 49). While no other women appear in the play,
references are made to other women, but the count here is still minimal and sums up to three.
Miranda speaks of the lack of female companionship around her because of her location, but
simultaneously the audience sees that the references to women that do occur within the play
often have a sinister purpose for appearing within the lines. The other women mentioned in the
play seem to provide a sort of dark cloak over the proceedings of the play, even if they are
completely absent. Regardless, Miranda, as the only physical woman in the play the audience
actually sees and hears, is described by Prospero with kind words, and few, if any, negative
imagery revolves around the appearance of the innocent Miranda. For example, Prospero informs
Miranda that this Art is prompted by his concern for her; I have done nothing but in care of thee
(1.2.16). Prospero also tells Miranda that his mistreatment and harshness toward Caliban stems
from the fact that Caliban attempted to rape Miranda and Prospero wants to protect her from any
harm that could come about from Caliban.(1.2.347 51). Prospero also indicates that Miranda, to
him, is a third of mine own life,/ Or that for which I live (4.1.3 4); therefore after she is
The Effects Of Bacteria And Its Effects On The Environment
Introduction
Bacteria are important microorganisms because they are used by humans for many reasons (Goel,
2014). For example, they are being use in the production of food such as cheese and vinegar;
production of medical substances such as drugs; biotechnology, etcetera (Goel, 2014). Thus, such
bacteria have to be mass produced to be exploited for many purposes in the industry (Goel, 2014).
Batch culture, a closed system with limited supply of nutrients for growth, is commonly used for
large scale production of microorganisms (Hall, et al., 2014; Maier, 2009). This suggest that with the
accumulation of toxic waste products, changing pH, oxygen tension, and decreasing supply of
nutrients, cell growth will be inhibited and the culture will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Finally, bacteria cells enter the death phase as death rate exceeds growth rate (Hall, et al., 2014;
Maier, 2009). The knowledge of the patterns of growth under specified conditions for any types of
bacteria is necessary for large scale production of cheese, drugs, etcetera (Goel, 2014; Maier, 2009).
Aim
Thus, the aim of the experiment is to show the typical phases of growth of a bacterial population,
Vibrio natriegens, as well as the calculation of the generation time. Also, this experiment aims to
determine how the availability of oxygen affects the growth of a bacterial population, Vibrio
natriegens. The population density will be determined turbidometrically.
Materials and Methods
12 ml of Vibrio natriegens culture was added to 200 ml of BHI medium contained in a pre
warmed flask (either shaking, aerated, or non shaking, non aerated) in a water bath at 37°C. 2 ml
of samples of the cultures were removed after inoculation and at 10 min intervals for approximately
2 hours for measurement of turbidity by Optical Density (OD) at 590 nm. OD readings were
recorded and plotted using log scale (ordinate) against time after inoculation (abscissa). The mean
generation time () and mean growth rate (g) were calculated using the following equations
respectively: and .
Results
To plot the growth curve of Vibrio natriegens under aerated or non aerated condition, 12 ml of Vibrio
natriegens culture was first
How The Low Income Of Countries Such As Chad And Papua New...
Introduction
This report is to help introduce the low income of countries such as Chad and Papua New Guinea,
and comparing them to a country such as Sweden who has no income. For years, certain countries, as
the two listed above cannot maintain a lifestyle with the incomes that are available to them. Using
incomes will help to see where the problem is occurring and how it might be approached to aid the
countries. Reporting on the countries will give insight into a historical background including
independence of the countries, along with education, literacy, life factors, and poverty by using the
GINI to show how wide the gaps can be and become.
Historical Background In 1946 Chad became an Overseas Territory of France and on August 11,
1960 obtained independence, but short lived, because of a tyrant dictator, Francois Tombalbaye,
who never really released them from his grip, and Chad had been in a civil war, until 1990 when
Idriss Deby, a military commander, took control and with his rule, multi party politics has returned
to Chad, giving some freedoms back to its citizens (Chad s long road to independence, 2010).
Papua New Guinea was under the government of Australia, and the UN pushed Australia to give
Papua New Guinea independence and help create a group that would be able to run a government
through social and educated influences. On September 16, 1975 Papua New Guinea obtained their
independence with a monarchy ruled by Queen Elizabeth II as head of state represented
My Mexican Culture
Many people used to think that their heritage means nothing to them, but for me it means a lot.
Growing up my family would always talk in Spanish or they would talk about how they love
being Mexican, but I never fully understood why being Mexican was so important to my family.
One day I decided to sit down with my parents, and ask them why is our Mexican heritage so
important? They would tell me all sorts of stories such as: how they were apart of a dance group
called Ballet Folklorico De Topeka, my mom would always tell me how she likes listening
/singing to music. Me personally Mexican music is so much better than songs in English. Why I
say that is because Mexican music is so much more poetic. As a little girl, I learned a lot about my
Mexican heritage. I even joined my parents in their dance group and still involved in it today.
Over the years it s been so fun, and it helped me learn a lot about different Mexican counties. Who
would ve thought that I would learn so much just by dancing. I know it sounds crazy, but it s the
truth. Also being a little girl I learned about Day Of The Deadwhich in Spanish is called dia de los
muertos which is a two day celebration. The day s in which this takes place is September 1 and
2nd. September 1st we honor the children and September 2nd we honor the adults. When I was
little I never fully understood why we celebrated people deaths. I always thought when someone
dies we show our respects and grief about it, but throwing a whole

My Best Friend For Adving My Life
The question is, How could I ever repay my best friend for saving my life? December 29, 2016, is
a day I will never forget. Although it was a horrific day, it is a part of me. It makes one think
about self worth after something like this has happened to them. It takes courage to talk about
something like this, but this is the day my best friend saved me from getting taken advantage of.
One word can save someone s life, and one person can make a difference. Pain demands to be felt,
and on this day, it was definitely felt. My mom was very cautious and worried when it came to
staying the night with my aunt, only because of the neighborhood they chose to live in. The
neighborhood was very dangerous at night. It would not surprise people if gun shots go off at
night. I thought I was safe because my uncle always locked the door at night, and he was very
respected in the area. Little did I know, I was sleeping in the same house as a predator. My cousin
was up around five in the morning because he was playing the play station, and the sound of
basketball shoes and basketballs bouncing had woken me up, so I turned back around and went
back to sleep. Looking back at it now, I wish I would not have woken after I had gone back to
sleep, but I did. That Thursday morning, my aunt waved goodbye as she walked out the door
heading to work. I was feeling kind of nervous because I had never been alone with my uncle
before. I remember my aunt saying, Uncle Travis will bring you to Glass Tax after TJ and Pinky
left. I wasn t worried, so I went back to sleep. I finally woke up for the final time around nine
thirty in the morning. Not only was I fixing to be alone with my thirty one year old uncle, but I
also did not have a phone to contact anyone, so I was using my aunts iPad. In a situation where
one has no control, they must continue being brave, strong, and faithful. Fear struck over me
making my entire body numb. I was starting to feel anxiety run over my body as I realized my
uncle started to hit on me, making me feel really uncomfortable. It was all fun and games until he
started taking it literally. We were sitting on the recliner couch, having a conversation, and he started
to talk inappropriately. I would record
Impact On Technology And Technology
The development of technology is upon the many fields of knowledge, including historical,
language learning, mathematical, etc. Every single moment of our day is affected due to the
inventions of years ago, from turning on a light switch to cooking breakfast. An invention that still
affects us today and will continue to do so is a computer. Although the computer continues to
modernize as time goes by, it has positively impacted the way a student s technology literacy
knowledge and skills are developed for professional success. Writing tools, such as pen and paper,
has modernized to meet our essential needs in a classroom environment. Technology continues to
advance so much that we could not live a day without it like a writer cannot live without writing.
Although personal computers were not initially meant for word processing either, through that has
become one of their primary functions (Baron 646). When computers were first introduced in a
classroom environment, teachers feared students would forget how to properly spell, but now
teachers complain if students do not double check their spelling when turning in their papers. A
student s literacy knowledge and skills development are not only advancing in spelling, but their
vocabulary is expanding as well. Success in literacy is measured by what a student can do with it,
not what they know about texts and print. Having a computer in hand gives us access to synonyms
and/or antonyms along with many more tools developing a
What Characteristics Does The Bachelor s Story Share With...
Mid Semester Take home Exam: The Storyteller

1.What characteristic does the bachelor s story share with the modern fairy story? In what ways does
it subvert the audiences expectations?
Like most modern fairy stories the bachelor s story begins with the phrase Once upon a time , has
a reoccurring pattern (the word good ), incudes a prince, animals, good versus evil and a journey.
That is, Bertha, the main character who receives multiple rewards for being good, comes face to
face with a ravenous wolf while strolling through a park. Unlike Little Red Riding hood or other fairy
tale heroines, a prince or bystander does not come to rescue Bertha. Nor, is there any magical
intervention. Instead, the story subverts the audiences expectation by having the main character
killed because of her goodness (being too good) while no punishment befalls the wolf. This goes
against the conventional happy ending, and the narrative good things happen to good people .
Additionally, the setting and the verbiage used to describe Bertha is unconventional. Flowers hold
different meanings, but typically represent beauty, and may signify prosperity. For this reason, the
beautiful park is expected to have flowers. Instead, it contained no flowers but many pigs. The ...

The general message is of more importance than the details and overall enjoyment. Similar to
hornbooks, which were design to indoctrinate young readers. On the other hand, I agree more with
the bachelor who sees children s literature as a form of entertainment that can teach lessons. Similar
to the idea of, A Pretty Little Pocket Book Instructions with Delight. Furthermore, the bachelor does
not believe that children s literature should pander or caudle children but expose them to some
measures of cruelty, unfairness and violence which they may experience in
The Suv Automobile Market From 2000-2016
This coursework is going to focus on Chinese SUV automobile market from 2000 2016 as the
SUV segment has been one of the most active consumer markets. In fact, passenger vehicle sales
rose by 19% to 1.7 million units in China in 2016 and sport utility vehicles and multipurpose
vehicles climbed 9.5 percent to 10.8 million units in the January June period, according to the
China Passenger Car Association (Bloomberg News, 2016). More recently, the abolition of one
child policy has brought about increasing demand for more spacious vehicles, which provided a
tailwind for sales of mid sized SUVs (ibid). As Leggett (2016) reports, SUV sales in China surged
by 40% as the segment gained a tremendous share of the overall passenger vehicle market 38.8%.
Its popularity can be attributed to SUV s unique features and characteristics which include: high
ground clearance, high centre of gravity, high H point, and boxy body design
(marketsandmarkets.com, 2015); also, SUVs provide a safer environment for occupants and
drivers due to the higher vehicle mass, less absorbed energy and resulting instructions in a crash, as
officially tested (Margaritis et al, 2015). This coursework is divided into three main parts including
demand and supply sides of the Chinese SUV market respectively and Chinese central government s
role in it. Demand Side of Chinese SUV Market Four factors affecting consumers demand are
analysed in this section, including price, income, advertising and marketing, and
Essay on The Many Benefits of Pet Ownership
A dog is a man s best friend goes much deeper than the phrase might initially imply. Recently many
medical journals have begun to identify with the many and varied benefits of pet ownership. Men
have always relied upon animals for work, transportation, and survival. As times have changed, man
has begun to appreciate a different bond with animals. Gone are the days of animals running free
outside around the homestead, for now animals are allowed inside and are considered by many to
be an integral part of our daily lives! Medical studies have found that animals have a much greater
intelligence level than originally thought. Through proper training and experience, animals are not
only household pets, but also are becoming an accepted form... Show more content on

Pets can fill a void in an owner s life, by allowing them to nurture something and receive a sense of
satisfaction. Socially pets have become so much a part of our daily lives that they are often
treated as if they were children, some lucky pets even attend daily play sessions, and are treated
to extreme indulgence; all to make their owner feel as if they were an infant or a child. Blind
owners rely on their seeing eye dogs to guide them around wherever they go; they are trained to
guide them past and around obstacles. The National Institute of Health states, More than half of all
U.S. households have a companion animal. Pets are more common in households with children, yet
there are more pets than children in American households. There are more than 51 million dogs, 56
million cats, 45 million birds, 75 million small mammals and reptiles, and uncounted millions of
aquarium fish (np). Many movie stars and rich and famous people have begun using pets as a status
symbol. Millions of dollars are spent finding the perfect and most valuable pet even to the extent that
the original breed of animal has become unrecognizable or even extinct. This need for high status and
perfection has resulted in safety risks to both pets and the people they live with. Inbreeding and
tampering with cross genes in animals often result in an animal of inferior security and emotional
stability, thus resulting in an aggressive and violent temperament. In an attempt to
