Sharecropping During Reconstruction
One of the largest changes during the post Civil War era of Reconstruction was the fact that
African Americans we re now able to participate in legislative activities including running for
office and voting. However, one of the main problems that still lapsed through the era of
Reconstruction was the concept of sharecroppers, in which blacks were no longer deemed as
slaves, rather they were known as tenants of a given land proprietor. The concept of sharecropping
allowed black families to develop some form of economic autonomy by which they could live by
and stabilized the work force (Foner 98,316). The ability to add new forms of independence to
society was brought on primarily through the ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment. [No]... Show

Though they may not have had the education their white male counterparts may have had, they
were still able to join politics and represent their fellow previously enslaved people. At first, though
they were citizens they were not allowed to vote in certain states, primarily southern states that
refused to acknowledge it as a necessity for them. This is one of them many instances in which the
southern states refused to acknowledge the fact that they need to follow the rules that are being set
in place by the government. However, it was also one in which they were trying to find loopholes.
The Fifteenth Amendment, while eventually ratified, took several attempts to become the ideal law
for Congress to pass. The South was still very skeptical with allowing the freedmen the right to
vote, even though they had lost their initial argument involving slavery. The South waned to
maintain their sense of superiority over those of color through the withholding of the right to vote.
However, eventually in February of 1870 the amendment was ratified and the right to vote was
given. The Fifteenth Amendment accounts for the ability to vote and not be denied based on a
person s race, color, or previous condition of servitude . The ability to vote was one of the first ways
that African Americans were truly influential on state and federal legislature.
Social Work Reflection Paper
The developmental stages of infancy and childhood carry the most dramatic changes of any lifespan
development stage. While many changes that occur during these stages are biological and can be
influenced little by the experiences of the child, countless outcomes can be affected by the
interactions an infant has in their environment. Interactions include; positive, negative, and level of
attentiveness with parents, grandparents, and any other regular contact a child may have with
caregivers, among other things (Belsky, 1984). Additionally, nutrition a mother ingests preceding the
birth of a child and the nourishment a child ingests post birth have distinct impact on development.
Generally, these concepts are acknowledged, accepted, and illustrious in the community.
Conversely, the purpose of our class is to obtain a deeper understanding of practices and theories
that arm us with tools to help the population we serve to maximize the potential of our clients and
their children. There is a wide range of critical topics imperative for social workers to have a strong
understanding of which has been covered in this class, and narrowing down which topics are the
most important to know is no small task as identifying those topics suggest some are more important
than others. In reality, our future clients will ultimately dictate which concepts are most important in
practice. With that said, I have selected themes that I believe are either important theory that provide
Bronfrebrenner s Ecological Systems
Many influences and interactions take part into human development. These influences are better
understood by Urie Bronfrebrenner s Ecological Systems Model. According to this model,
individuals interact with five systems: microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem,
chronosystem. I interviewed my Aunt Betty about her life to give me a better understanding of the
Ecological Systems. This paper will describe how these systems apply to her life. Microsystem is the
first system in the model and includes settings that a child personally interacts with and is influenced
by the most. These settings can include; family, peers, teachers, and community. For instance, my
Aunt Betty lived in a household with her parents and six siblings.
The Effectiveness of the Criminal Justice System in...
The reservation of the Convention on the Rights of a Child (CROC) had played invaluable role in
charging the way in which young offenders are dealt with within the Australia Criminal Process.
Including the introduction of the theory known as Doli Incapax meaning the age of criminal
reasonability, the Young Offender Act 1997 NSW as well new law regarding the rights of a child
once they have been arrested. It is evident that these while some of charges are still ineffective in
dealing with Young Offenders within the Criminal JusticeSystem the majority of them are in place
for the greater good and are assisting young offenders when it relates to the Criminal Justice System.
Doli Incapax is just one of the ways in which children are now treated more equally under the law.
According to the theory it is presumption that children are incapable of having criminal intent
which in terms means that children under the age of 10 are unable to be charge with any criminal
offence and when relating to children 10 to 13 the prosecution make be able to show that the child
at the time of the alleged offence actually know what they were doing was seriously wrong.
According to Section 6 of the Children (Criminal Proceedings) Act 1987 children have rights equal
to adult offender and have a right to be heard and participate in criminal proceedings that affect
them, children are responsible for their actions however require guidance and assistance and where
possible a child should be able to

Transgender Students
The transgender community has been particularly outspoken about the injustices they have faced as
transgender individuals as of late. Due to this, the public s attention is drawn to what can be done to
help these individuals gain the same rights that cisgender people have. A particularly potent topic is
that of transgenderstudents in high schools. On account of the attention, schools and teachers are
faced with whether they will help or hinder the lives of their transgender students. Unfortunately, it
has been made clear that high school teachers and high schools in general are not doing enough to
accommodate their transgender students. There is a general belief that students who are transgender
need to worry about their peers not accepting them first and foremost, but teachers and administrators
can be even worse because of the power they hold over the students. According to the National
Center for Transgender Equality, all too often transgender students are punished for expressing their
genderidentity. When the people in power at a school refuse to accept a student, it creates a hostile
environment for the student to enter every day for several hours. With the friends I have that are
transgender, school can be the only escape from a home life that is nonaccepting. If this were a
small problem, small actions could take place to prevent this. However, the National Center for
Transgender Equality states that 75% of transgender youth feel unsafe at school which can cause
Family Narrative Essay
When I first looked for a topic, it was harder than I thought. As I picked up my pen and paper
everything evanesced. When the topic searching wasn t going well, I tried to define the word
family. Ooh did I think long and hard, but realized that everybody s definition was personal and
different based on their feelings and memories. I thought long and hard into my familyhistory and
adorned the memory of our vacation to South Dakota, along with the activities attached to the trip.
In my family narrative, I will be explaining a family trip to Mt. Rushmore, Kalahari, and the wild
experience of standing in a glass box staring down from the Willis Tower, trying to unlock my
personal definition of the word family. Now, let s jump to the exhilarating trip to South Dakota!
Have you ever wondered what it was like to stand in front of Abraham Lincolnor George
Washington? They were on a high mountain called Mt. Rushmore. While there we visited the
Sculptor s Studio and the Lincoln Borglum Museum. I think I can say that the whole family liked
the Sculptors Studio the best of all. In the studio, you were given a face to face look at some of the
tools used to carve the important faces in the mountain. After we left there, everything went
downhill. All of the little kids were whining while the older ones were bored out of their mind. The
only ones that seemed to be enjoying themselves were my parents. Ooh look at this. Oh yeah, this is
a cool monument. Now the real action occurred when
