Abstract

Green Revolution and targets to achieve National Food Security had led to indiscriminate use of chemicals
that not only affected human health but deteriorated soil quality and increased agricultural cost. The
present study was aimed to explore the effects of Static Electric Field on Soil properties (pH, EC, NPK, water
holding capacity, microbial activity), seed germination, plant growth and phytoremediation as a sustainable
technological approach in Agriculture.

6V, 10V, 14V DC voltage (14cm distance between electrodes) was applied in soil for 4 hours and it
was observed that 14V and 10V field decreased the pH near anode from 7.2 to 4.8 and 6.3 respectively and
increased pH to 8.8 and 8.2 respectively near cathode. Less significant change in pH was observed in the
middle region (7.2 - 7.4). 34.4% and 30.7% increase in EC was observed in middle region of 14V and 10V
supply respectively indicating more availability of free ions in the soil solution. Potential drop per unit
length was more uniform in 6V and 10V supply than 14V. With increasing voltage, water holding capacity
(Soil Cup Method) was found to increase. 15.26%, 23.66% and 24.5% increase than control in water holding
capacity was observed respectively with 6V, 10V and 14V supply. Application of Static electric field in Soil
enhanced the biological fertility of soil also, as it increased microbial soil respiration measured in terms of
CO2 release (ISO:16072 Lab Method). Microbial respiration increased by 2.5 times. 3.5 times and 2 times
respectively with 6V, 10V and 14V supply in soil. Hence 10V-14cm i.e. 0.7V/cm electric field applied in soil
for 4 hours was observed to be more appropriate to enhance soil quality.

Pre-Sowing treatment of seeds with 4V, 8V and 12V supply (14 cm distance between electrodes) for
20, 40 and 60 min duration enhanced water absorption, rate and percentage germination. It was observed
that 4V for 60 min and 8V for 20 min increased water absorption by nearly 18%, percentage germination to
92% and 93% respectively as compared to 77% in control. Maximum decrease in Mean Germination Time
(MGT) and Time taken for 50% Germination (T50) was observed in 8V-20 min. treatment. MGT reduced by
26.6% and T50 reduced by 32.5% in 8V-20 min treatment as compared to control. Post-Sowing treatment
for 15 days with 4V, 8V, 12V supply (11 cm distance between electrodes) for 2 and 4 hours daily in soil was
observed. Maximum growth was observed with 8V-4 hours treatment which enhanced the average plant
height by 41.6%, Fresh weight by 56.7% and Dry weight by 39.6% than control. Pre-sowing treatment of
seeds with 8V for 20 min enhanced average plant growth by 17.5%, Fresh weight by 36% and dry weight by
29.3% than control. Further increase in g rowth was observed on combined application of pre-sowing and
post sowing treatments.

Electro-phytoremediation of soil (removal of heavy toxic elements from soil) by Brassica juncea
(Indian Mustard) with 10V and 14 V-14cm supply enhanced metal uptake by plants from soil as it was
evident from reduced metal content in the treated soil. 27.3% and 36.4% Cd was removed from soil with
10V and 14V treatment as compared to 9.1% Cd removal in control. Similarly, 36.9% and 44.6% Pb was
removed from soil with 10V and 14V treatment respectively as compared to 18.5% Pb removal in control.
Hence static electric field increases bioavailability of nutrients which favours plant growth and their
phytoremediation capacity.
In this project, we have used Static Electric Field produced with the help of solar panel, to improve
soil properties, germination rate and plant growth in our school garden and in future we will try to
implement it in nearby nurseries and other schools. So pre-sowing and post-sowing treatments of seeds
and soil with static electric field may prove to be an excellent technology to achieve sustainability goals in
agriculture thereby reducing the use of harmful chemicals.

Abstract

Flush toilet based water infrastructure, which handles blackwater and grey water, causes a lot of
environmental problems. Among these, the loss of valuable organic material and human excreta is not
sufficiently emphasised yet. In this project ,we reviewed the data in literature about the nutrient content of
human urine. Thereafter, we tested the human urine content to show its potential value along with the use
of gelatin as a fertilizer. To confirm the necessity of human urine and gelatin in agriculture instead of using
synthetic fertilizer, we prepared different setups with the dilution of human urine accordingly adding
gelatin in it and getting the observations by the study of these setups. We came to know that concentration
of human urine with addition of gelatin is most appropriate in the agriculture with root growth initiation.

Abstract

In this day and age, with the water levels in ground dropping and the open sources of water drying up,
water has become a scare resource that needs to be conserved in every way possible. We use water from
dawn to dusk in all walks of life. But Agriculture, apart from being the most major sector in Indian
commerce, is also the most water consuming domain, where the water usage is not monitored and often
left unchecked. Also, the unknown pH and hardness of water can prove harmful in many cases. In this
project, we opted for a surveillance method of approach to understand the problems faced by the farmers.
To curb all these obstructions, we introduced the project titled Aqua Regna or water ruling. Aqua Regna is
an IOT based project which can be operated remotely from anywhere around the globe using a stable Wi-Fi
connection. The solution will be carried out in various steps: testing the soil pH and humidity, the weather,
measuring dimensions of the field, setting up the module consisting a water treatment part and water
regulator part. Also, the farmers will be equipped with an app to calculate water required by the field and
operating cum managing the water supplied to the crops. With Aqua Regna, a farmer would be able to have
the detailed information about the characteristics of the soil, treat the water for desired pH and hardness,
know the exact amount of water required by the crop in great precision and regulate the quantity and
quality of water supplied, from greater distances, with the help of the Node MCU Module. Aqua Regna will
give farmers an accessible, easily available, manageable, and affordable means to ensure water
conservation and a healthy crop produce.

Abstract

World's poppulation has increased from 50% to 68% in last 3 years which has caused overpopulation and
increase in demand of natural resources. These resources are not managed in right way these days. So, we
need a sustainable way of living in order to manage our natural environment around us for various reasons.

In this project, first, we decided to decorate our school's herbal garden and one of the area of our city's
famous Leisure Valley by upcycling plastics. To spread awareness and to get more knowledge about the
common issues faced by the citizens of Ludhiana, we led a rally and conducted a survey (where we
collected 300+ responses), respectively. Later we worked on BGI (Blue Green Infrastructure) which includes
many systems that deals with management of storm water. We chose Bio-Retention cells which can be
developed on the side of roads. These cells not only manage water logging but also infiltrate storm water
directly into the water table. Bio retention cells are better than other Blue green infrastructures. Let's take
the example of green roofs which is also a part of BGI. Green roofs can only be found on the roofs of
buildings. Therefore, it can only be used for personal benefit. Moreover, the run-off reduction% (calculated
as (Total inflow - Total outflow) *100)) of green roofs is less than bio retention cells. But for personal use in
the buildings, it is highly recommended as it is much better than normal roofs, it keeps the building cool, it
has 2 layers of total 50cm. From the bottom, the first layer is pebbles (40%) and second layer can be soil
and coco peat (60%). So Let's come together to convert the grey infrastructure to green infrastructure.

Abstract

Keeping in mind the covid situation, the Government of India imposed a lockdown on the country to
prevent the spread of virus. As a result, classroom teaching had to be shifted to online teaching in the form
of online meetings on devices in order to make up for the loss of studies. Electronic devices have always
been used to some extent in the sector of education but the overall screen time in such activities has seen a
great increase. The aim of our endeavour in this project was to study effects of electronic devices on the
health of students. The three dimensions of health- Physical, Mental and Social health have had a huge
negative impact as well. The objective was to conduct some surveys in order to analyse the root cause of
the problem and then come up with remedies for the same. Our remedies mainly focussed on reducing
these effects and recovery of students as well as their overall development.

ABSTRACT
Menstrual waste comprises of menstrual absorbents soiled with blood and human tissue remnants. They
are best cultured medium for disease causing pathogens . Hence if these get disposed untreated in the
environment , there is risk of building a reservoir of pathogens in the environment. Menstrual hygiene
products include cloth, sanitary napkins and other materials used to absorb or to collect menstrual blood.
Solid waste management Rule (2016) considers menstrual waste as sanitary waste under solid waste. Rules
specify responsibilities of users, groups and manufacturers . Many females use sanitary napkins during their
periods and disposing of their used pads is a major concern for them. When large quantities of non
compostable waste ends up in fields and water bodies, it can cause long term deterioration of water and
soil quality. May females bury them in the mud near their handpump where waste water collects. It
creates a health hazard by being buried near the water bodies. Burning plastic sanitary napkin in open
causes harmful toxins to be released into the atmosphere and is therefore not environment friendly. In this
project, a survey was conducted in nearby village and in the school by the project team and we came to
know that most of the ladies are facing the problem of sanitary pads disposal. We conducted a survey in
the school and nearby village , conducted interviews to know more about the problem. It was analyzed
that people are aware about the harmful effects but they did not take any step in this direction. We did
research work by visiting internet sites , agricultural universities, chemistry labs and did different
experiments to find solution to the problem. Finally, we came up with the idea to use low cost MATKA
INCINERATOR. This incinerator has the capacity to decompose the sanitary waste without harming the soil
or environment. The school students were made aware about the benefits of using Matka Incinerator and
with the help of Sarpanch Nangalbhur Mrs. Bhawana, the team installed five incinerators for five houses.
With a hope that more people will understand its importance and usage , we will continue our efforts in
future.

Abstract

In India due to rapid growth in population, due to economical deveopment and over utilisation of
resources, use and throw away culture has led to generation of huge quantity of different type of solid
waste. Human race does not consume everything which is produced. Most of what is produced finds a place
in dumping sites rather than being reduced ,reused and recycled. It is the right time for proper
management of discarded material to reduce undesirable effect on environment .

In this project , team came up with an idea of BIOENZYMES / SANJEEVANI RAS which can play crucial role in
reducing kitchen waste garbage. The team tried to show the role of bioenzymes to save our environment.
Survey report and interviews regarding the topic were conducted from randomly selected different people
of Chohla Sahib . The project team tried to know about awareness of people regarding biodegradable and
non biodegradable pollutants , cause of soil, air, water pollution, use of different bins for differnt types of
waste etc. Then our team discovered a method to convert kitchen waste into useful product named
BIOENZYME.

Bioenzyme provides a valuable alternative to the harmful kitchen garbage's reduction. Bioenzymes are
organic compounds produced by fermentation of fresh vegetables/fruit waste in the presence of water and
jaggery. It is natural non toxic, non flamable liquid enzyme which provide nutrition to plant and act as
chemical juice for room freshner, toilet cleaner, insecticides etc.Bioenzymes act as biocleaners by
fermenting organic waste by using selective microorganisms (YEAST AND BACTERIA).Our team members
used bioenzymes in their own lives and fruitful resuts of it have been seen . This project will encourage use
of bioenzymes in different areas and reduce kitchen garbage and consumption of harmful chemicals for
achieving sustainable life.
