Martin Scorsese s Film The Departed
When many of us think mobster movies , we typically expect the film industry to portray a dark
and murky world full of money, drugs, deceit and murder. Martin Scorsese s film, The Departed
delivers just that. The following will summarize key aspects of the plot and identify specifics of the
period that it is conveying. Also, we will look at cultural features of the era and see how they
interplay with elements of the film. Finally, we will address the impact that this film had on
American popular culture.
SUMMARY
The Departed is an iconic modern mobster movie that was delivered to us by Martin Scorsese in
2006. There are two main characters that we follow and both have a connection to Irish mob boss
Frank Costello. The first is a young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Matt Damon s character, Sullivan is in direct contrast when compared to Costigan,
played by Leonardo Di Vinci. While Sullivan comes off as a clean cut and smooth operating, this
gimmick conceals his true colors as a rat for Costello. While he maintains his good cop image, he
utilizes his rank and position to aid Costello and eventually to try to conceal his participation. On
the other hand, Costigan has the rough natured looks of a guy who has spent most his time in
Boston involved in some sort of criminal activity. Like Sullivan, Costigan utilizes his disguise to
get what he ultimately wants; to be a respected member of the Massachusetts State Police. Frank
Costello, played by Jack Nicholson is a unique character all in his own. It does not take long for
the viewer to realize that Costello has spun such a deceptive web of lies and spies that it could be
his own downfall. Nicholson s portrayal of Costello gives you the impression of an Irish mob boss,
with a sadistically present sense of humor and the desire to maintain his state of control. I don t want

The Cash Flow Of The Free Cash Flows ( Fcf )
Firm Valuation
As shown in Exhibit 4, in order to value a company we first started by calculating the free cash
flows (FCF) year by year. In order to do so, we decided to use the forecasted revenue numbers from
Capital IQ and calculate all the other metrics by using the trends we saw in last three years (Exhibit
3). The company can allocate free cash flow in several ways, including but not limited to:
repurchasing stock, reinvesting for growth and paying out dividends.
After calculating the free cash flows, we had to calculate the terminal value of the company.
Doing so required us to estimate a terminal growth rate. We decided that 3.1% growth rate was
suitable for Kimberly Clark. This rate was integrated by 2% expected inflation growth per year in
the US (Federal Reserve), in addition with a 1.1% expected growth of the population (World O
Meters). As a team we believe that since KMB is in a personal care industry, it can be perceived as
a commodity, thus the population growth should directly affect our sales. Necessary goods will still
have relevance in the future.
After terminal value was calculated, we proceeded by valuing KMB using the entity approach. As
shown in the Exhibit 5, the value of the assets is $55,128.44. This was calculated by discounting
all the unlevered cash flows and the terminal value by our WACC of 6.8257%. For the total value
of debt we used the market value of $7064.3 million. After the value of the equity was calculated,
we got the implied debt
How Is Hope Shown In Shawshank Redemption
There have been various prison related films from the past. The Film Shawshank Redemption
directed by Frank Darabont, is one of these movies that has shown the true intensity and lifestyle
in a prison in great depth. The Film is about a man called Andy who is claimed to be guilty for the
murder of his wife and lover, he was sent to Shawshank Prison for 2 life time sentence and
undergoes many events that will test him until he breaks. The only thing Andy could do is hope
for a day he would be free once again. The intentions here is to find how hope brought him such a
long way, which will be done by looking at 3 key scenes where hope has been represented in a way
that we can relate to. Shawshank Redemption has conveyed the emotions and feelings of hope to us
using different techniques to do with visual and musical aspects. The scene where Andy is playing
opera through the warden s mic, so all the Shawshank inmates can have a... Show more content on

Red didn t have anything outside the prison, so what Andy had left for him was his only chance
of hope keeping up. As Red is being dropped off at the town Buxton, the music turns very soft and
emotionless. As Red spots the tree, the music changes into more of enlightened track to show
Red s disbelieve (In a good way) and his happiness. Hope is a good thing, maybe even the best
thing Andy quotes in the letter to Red. The Scene wanted us to know that Red wanted to find
what Andy had left for him, as it was Red s only chance of meeting Andy. With the music, it
shows Red s determination to find his friends long lost treasure. Then after as he found the tree, a
wide shot of Red and the tree was visible, giving the impression that this was what Red was
looking for. Through hope Red had been brought on a small journey after he is released from
prison. Andy s treasure was all he had left and his only hope on finding
Who Is Michael Phelps A Hero
Michael Phelps is one of the most decorated Olympic athletes in the world. Many people look at
him as a hero, but he did not have an easy life. Early on, his parents divorce had a profound impact
on him, giving him nightmares that were very upsetting. After winning eight gold medals at the
Athens Olympic Gamesin 2004, at the height of popularity, he struggled with alcohol and drugs.
However, with the help of his swim coach Bob Bowman, and the support of his mother, two sisters,
and his father, he was able to overcome the personal struggles and return to the sport in which he
excelled. His ability to admit he had problems and making himself vulnerable enabled him to
overcome his weaknesses and return to sports.
He started swimming when he was young, and his wish to become a great swimmer made him
dedicated to the sport, giving up other sports to train constantly. Phelps began swimming at age 7
when his sisters joined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Phelps ran into trouble with alcohol and drugs after the Beijing Olympics, but he admitted his
problem and went into rehab. He had spent so much time training as a boy, that he didn t know
what to do with his life after his success and it led him down a bad path of drugs and alcohol.
(Crouse`0) He had spent so much time with swimming, that he didn t have any skills to live a
normal life. By admitting his problems, he made himself vulnerable so he could face his problems
and get back on the right track.
In spite of his problems, Michael Phelps was able to face them with the courage and determination
that made him a world class swimmer. He knew he had a problem and went to get help. It enabled

Socrates The Apology Analysis
In this week s reading, The Apology, Socrates expresses some strong views on wisdom and death.
This essay discusses some of these views, specifically in regards to wisdom despite Socrates
professions of not being wise.
In Socrates professions of not being wise, he tells a story of his quest to find one wiser then himself.
Socrates explains that as he has met with men of various professions that thought themselves to be
wise and that were considered to be wise by others. Through examining those men in his various
meetings, Socrates finds that the people who have great reputations and believe themselves to be
wise are actually less wise than those with lesser reputations and less arrogance. He states, I found
that the men most in repute were all but the most foolish; and that others less esteemed were really
wiser and better. ,
In many of his encounters with self professed wise men, Socrates realized that this ... Show more

Socrates believes that real wisdom lies with the gods, and human wisdom is worthless. As an
example of this, Socrates shows that when the Delphi said that he was the wisest person, he did
not mean Socrates as an individual, but instead as an example of a person who realizes that human
wisdom is worthless. Socrates claims that he gained his reputation from having human wisdom,
and not from any divine intervention. However, he believes that it is divine duty to spread
wisdom. He believes this whole heartedly, stating that if were to be released with only one
condition as to stop teaching he would respond with, Men of Athens, I honour and love you; but I
shall obey God rather than you, and while I have life and strength I shall never cease from the
practice and teaching of philosophy... It is clear as to what Socrates regards as a priority; wealth and
honor are trifling concerns next to the pursuit of truth and the perfecting of the

Ill health provides jobs for doctor s nurses and specialists (P.Trowler, Investigsting Health welfare
and Poverty, 1996 p.27) .
Marxist theory believes that there is a relationship between health and illness and capitalist social
organisation. The main focus is on how the definition and treatment of health and illness are
influenced by the nature of economic activity in a capitalist society. Marxist believe that the health
service exists for two reasons, they believe it has a genuine role in that it persuades a large number
of the population that capitalism cares for them (Moore, 2008 p.263).
Marxist believe that the health service helps the capitalist economy more directly, believing that
the health service maintains a healthy, hardworking and productive workforce. Workers who are
ill or injured are returned to work and therefore continue to make profits for the owners of capital.
Marxist believes that inequalities in health are related to how productive people are. The low levels
of expenditure on the working class is explained by the presence of social class division throughout
society, whereby working class people consistently receive worse treatment across the range of
services in housing, education and health (Moore, 2008, p.265).
Interactionists tend to concentrate on relatively small scale levels of social interaction, between
individuals or small social groups. They focus on the way in which individuals act, making conscious

Sophocles
This is the role that sophocles played in shaping what is theatre today; what made him such a
good playwright? Was it his Views on Religion? Did he differentiate himself on his opinion of
women in his plays that of other playwrights of his time? Is he originally creative or just imitating
other playwrights of his days? In this paper you will find the answers to all these questions and see
the impact he has on today s theatre.
Sophocles regarded the popular mythology/religion of that time as fiction rather than truth. He
believes in the principals that the tales of the old Gods represent. Not today or yesterday were they
created, but from all time, and no man knows when first they
Modern Dance In The 1950 s
Modern Dance is a free expressive way style of dancing that was developed in the early 20th
century as an insurgent against ballet. Isadora Duncan, Loie Fuller, and Ruth St. Denis were
pioneers who discovered and created modern dance in the United States. Modern dance also spread
to other countries like Germany and Greece but in the early 20th century it was taught so much
differently. In addition, when Modern dancewas taught around the 1950 s you noticed that the

According to Treva Bedinghaus she says Modern dancers use dancing to express their innermost
emotions, often to get closer to their inner selves. Before attempting to choreograph a routine, the
modern dancer decides which emotions to try to convey to the audience(Bedinghaus 1). Also the
attire for modern dance today can be a variation of leotards that you can wear for ballet or loose
clothes or perhaps fitted clothes. Also even in music the may tend to either tell you a story or
give you a lifelong lesson that can help you. Today one of the most famous singer and songwriter

Women s Right Movement Research Paper
Women s Right Movement
Throughout history, it has been proven that women have been neglected and looked down on by
men. They were denied the right to vote as if they were not even recognized as human beings.
African American men got the right to vote before women did. Women have been looked upon as
objects or trophies and not given the respect as they deserve. Women should be treated fairly,
equal to men and need to be acknowledged as such. In many cases, women working with the
same qualifications are paid less than men, doing the same job. In 2015 studies showed that women
were only paid 80% of what men were paid. A hefty 20% gap was in place (Miler,2017). Back then,
1 in every 3 women would be working for a wage, not a good one at that (Danzer).
History has shown that there have been many great female leaders, such as Harriet Tubman, she
alone escaped slavery and made an underground railroad and lead hundreds of enslaved people to
freedom. Another great female leader would be Queen Elizabeth II. She is the longest reigning and
oldest monarch in more than 1,200 years (Forbes Magazine). One of the more modern female

Ten: Opportunity Statue
How do you use your time? We all mean well at the beginning of each day, but somehow we get off
track and waste so much of it. What stands in your way of using your time wisely?
I try to devote my time to something I am passionate about at a given a moment, while reasonably
keeping in mind all of my outstanding priorities. There is no telling where some devotion of time
might lead. I try not to miss any opportunities which I might regret not taking later. I don t consider
deviating from the plans which I sometimes set at the beginning of the day as wasteful . The only
thing standing in the way of using time wisely is spending it on something that gets in the way of
your ability to make the most of future opportunities.

As for why we do it, it might just be part of the human condition. Often times doing these things is
taking the path of least resistance and escaping from the reality of a situation that is bringing you
some sort of conflict. Similarly, assigning value to the time we spend on things (especially reflecting
on time we might consider wasted ) is conflicting, mentally taxing and maybe uncomfortable;
whether scrolling through Facebook or mindlessly droning on at work, anything is more appealing
to the human mind than that which requires so much
