Null Hypothesis Essay
For this study a large population of a number of colleges were gathered together to record the number
of students that applied to medical colleges and then recorded the number of students that were
accepted into medical school. After, everyone entered in their data, they separated the students by
ethnic backgrounds into males and female categories to see the different percentages of the number
of students from each ethnic group that were admitted into med school. The test that I will be doing
is a Chi square test. The null hypothesisis that there is no preference of the colleges that students
pick, they usually pick anything that they believe that they can get into. The alternative hypothesis
is that there is a preference to the schools... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This research project was conducted using four colleges to compare their numbers of Ethnic
students that they accept into medical school. The colleges that were used were Baylor College
of Medicine, Cornell University: Weill College of Medicine, Harvard College of Medicine and
New York University School of Medicine. When figuring out the relationship between the Races
and the College s accepted rates, the critical value on the distribution was found to be 16.919,
because the alpha was not given so since it was not stated so assume it to be 0.05 and the degrees
of freedom is 9. Using the Chi square table and matching the d.f. and the alpha, we figured out
that critical value would be 16.919. Solving for the Chi square following the formula of the χ² =
∑ [(O E) ²/E], the final solution would be χ² ≈ 325.497. We than can conclude that there is enough
evidence to reject the Ho; the medical schools and the % of accepted students that are accepted into
college are not independent of each other. The way to avoid errors into this study, were not trying
to include colleges that did not accept any of the ethnic races that were include and find colleges
that all the races all applied
Eva Smith In An Inspector Calls By J. B. Priestley
An inspector calls is a play with a variety of political and social implications. J.B Priestley
believed in socialism and he used extravagant amounts of his plays to convince people to his way
of thinking and his views on socialism. This play was written in an era when Britain was ruled by
a labour government so socialist policies were seen to be the most guaranteed option. It was a
widespread way of thinking at that point in history so Priestley devised the play in this way to
influence the unconvinced in society. In my opinion, Eva Smith is one of the most contextually
significant characters in An inspector calls ; she is a metaphor for responsibility and represents the
women of the working and lower classes. In addition, her presence highlights... Show more content

The name Eva is derived from the root name Eve; a biblical name often associated with the Eve of
the Garden of Eden who is known to have been the first ever female to exist. Therefore, perhaps
Eva Smith may be intended as a character representative of womankind as a whole and of how
they were treated during the early 20th century. Moreover, her name Eva also means life giving
or living , which is ironic within the context of the play, since An Inspector Calls revolves around
the investigation into her death. In contrast, her surname Smith is a very common name in
England, it is also particularly similar to the generic name John Smith. As I mentioned earlier,
inspector Goole is representative of Priestley s views; so when the inspector gives the final speech
it clearly addresses Priestley s message to the audience. there are millions and millions of Eva
Smiths and John Smiths , The number million signifies a lot, making the audience feel bad for the
John and Eva Smiths in the British population. He wants to show the audience that capitalists are
unequal and cause global harm, Priestley s aim in most of the plays he writes, is to portray the
capitalists as inconsiderate and untrustworthy. Priestley wants to highlight the hypocrisy of the
Birlings; well, I was in that state when one easily turns nasty he uses the excuse of being drunk to
take advantage of Eva. It suits the themes of the play to make Eric as monstrous
Essay Penn State Scandal
The Jerry Sandusky case had a major impact on Penn State. It affected both academics and athletics
in a major way. In this essay I will discuss the situation that occurred and the impact that the social
media had on this once great school. Jerry Sandusky is a retired American football coach. He was
the assistant coach at Pennsylvania State Universityunder the legendary Joe Paterno for 30 years.
He was the defensive coordinator for the football team. He is also the founder of The Second Mile.
The Second Mile is a non profit organization that serves underprivileged youth. This is where Jerry
Sandusky had met many of his victims. On November 5th, 2011, Jerry Sandusky was arrested and
charged with 52 counts of sex crimes against young... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Graham Spanier at the time was the president of Penn State University. He was forced to resign
following the Penn State child sex abuse scandal. Tim Curley was the athletic director for Penn
State and Gary Schultz was the Vice President. After it was revealed that they failed to report the
incident to authorities, both of these men were fired by the board. The FBI had stated that after
conducting an investigation that these senior officials had known about Sandusky s actions as
early as 1998 and had failed to disclose this information to authorities. On October 9, 2012, Jerry
Sandusky was sentenced to a minimum of 30 years and a maximum of 60 years in prison.
Spanier, Curley, and Schultz have been charged with grand jury perjury, conspiracy, obstruction of
justice, and child endangerment in association with the scandal. Paterno and McQueary never had
any charges pressed on them because they did what they were obligated to do. McQueary had
reported the incident to his superior which is Joe Paterno. Joe Paterno also reported the incident to
his superior who is Curley and Schultz. This whole situation caused a huge reaction nationwide.
The media had criticized the University for being so irresponsible. Many radio stations and
newspapers harshly criticized the school for this scandal. Many people had criticized McQueary for
not protecting the child that was being raped by Sandusky. The media criticized him for not
protecting the child and reporting it to
Campaign Ads, America is highly familiar with them. Every...
Campaign Ads, America is highly familiar with them. Every election cycle television programing is
overrun with ads for the candidates competing in that election. They have become a staple of
American election fare. There are three major kinds of campaign ads: informative, comparison and
negative. The informative ads tell the viewer about what the candidate stands for. While comparison
ads compare the views of multiple candidates. The negative ads tend to focus on evoking emotion.
The goal of the negative ads is creating political actions from the emotions evoked. Negative ads
have become increasingly common over time. The major problem with negative ads is that they only
truncate politics while adding nothing worthwhile. Negative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The ads used should provide the most information possible. This way the common voter has a
better chance of being an educated voter. The problem with negative ads is that they do not
provide information to the viewer. The negative ads appeal to emotion and not reason. If the
television ads are the greatest resource to Americans for candidate information and selection the
ads should provide the best possible informational resource to viewers. Negative ads do not meet
these criteria they serve only to increase participation with any true knowledge of the choice the
viewer is taking. This creates a very dangerous situation with citizens electing leaders that they know
nothing about. The information provide to the viewer through negative ads is often misleading or
only part a story. When fact checked the information is unrelated, invalid or incomplete. While the
ads might bring a candidates misdeeds to light the veracity of the information provided severely
undermines the value of the negative commercials. Overall under educated voters is a very
dangerous thing and the goal of government should be to fix this issue not perpetuate the problem.
The third major problem with negative ads is that the ads often stir up dissension. A dispute over the
language used in the commercial or the veracity of information often arises. While debate is essential
to democracy, the debating over
Different Phases Of Solar And Magnetic Activity Cycles
CHAPTER 2 Cosmic Ray Modulation during Different Phases of Solar and Magnetic Activity
Cycles INTRODUCTION Cosmic rays are modulated as they traverse into the heliosphere.
Measurements have shown that cosmic ray intensity varies on different time scales. On a longer
time scale, the cosmic ray intensity variations in anti phase with solar activity having ≈ 11 year
cyclicity is well known and studied extensively (e.g., see Venkatesan and Badruddin, 1990;
Storini et al., 1995; Usoskin et al., 1998; Mavromichalaki et al., 1998; Kane, 2003; Sabbah and
Rybansky, 2006; Ma et al., 2009; Chaudhary et al., 2011; Kudela, 2012). In addition, the ≈ 22 year
modulation cycle in cosmic ray flux due to solar magnetic field polarity reversals is observed and
modeled (e.g., Jokipii and Thomas, 1981; Potgieter and Moraal, 1985; Webber and Lockwood,
1988; Potgieter, 1995; Cliver and Ling, 2001; Laurenza et al., 2012). However, in order to
understand these phenomena, it is important to understand how cosmic ray transport and
propagation vary with the solar activity and solar magnetic polarity (Heber, 2013). Although
sunspots have been used as a convenient index of solar activity, anti correlated with cosmic ray
intensity, it has been recognized that they are not intrinsically related to the problem of solar
modulation of cosmic rays. However, the diffusion coefficient changes during ≈ 11 year sunspot
cycle, being smaller during periods of high solar activity than
Miguel De Cervantes Influences
Miguel de Cervantes: Influential Spanish Author Have you ever been raided by pirates and put into
slavery? That is Miguel de Cervantes life in a nutshell. He has some wild moments throughout his
life that will leave you in awe such as being taught by the Society of Jesuits, fighting in battles, and
writingfamous poems and books. Cervantes is spectacular person because of his childhood, his
time in the Spanish military, his poetry career, and even his personal life which has made him one
of the most amazing people in literature. Miguel was born on September 29, 1547, to Don Rodrigo
de Cervantes and Leonor de Cortinas (biography.com; thefamouspeople.com). He was the fourth
child out of seven in the Cervantes family (biography.com). He was born in the small city of Alcala
de Henares, Spain, which is close to Madrid (thefamouspeople.com). Cervantes younger years were
pretty rough, with his father... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He did not see any military action for a year until the Battle of Lepanto that occurred in 1571
(Britannica.com). When it was tie to attack in the battle, Cervantes began to develop a fever but
he knew he needed to fight and pushed through it (Britannica.com). Once the war was all over,
Cervantes had received several serious injuries that placed him in the hospital for about six months
(thefamouspeople.com). Miguel continued to serve in the military bravely and willingly for four
more years. One day his leaders told him to deliver letters of commendation to the king. His ship
was attacked by Barbary pirates and he was taken into slavery (Britannica.com). His slave masters
found the letters he was delivering to the king and raised his slave price due to those letters
(Britannica.com). He was stuck in captivity for three years until his family bought him out
(Britannica.com). He quit serving in the military and decided to start writing poems for a living,
which would eventually pay
Support for a Global Ban on Shark Finning
The predator role of the shark is invaluable to marine life. The Institute of Oceanography at The
University of California developed a model of a Caribbean Marie ecosystem to research predator
prey interaction. The food web created encompassed 250 species including sharks. The researchers
found more than 3,000 links between the species. This gave researchers a better understanding of
sharks and their significants as well as the consequences of human activity towards sharks. The over
fishing of sharks is primarily attributed to sharkfinning; an inhumane activity that involves slicing
off the shark s fins while still alive and throwing the rest of its body back into the ocean where it
can take days to die. Although shark fin is used in many asian traditions, supporting a global ban
that strictly regulates shark finning will help save these magnificent creatures, local economies,
and the ecosystem. The great demand for shark fin originated from Asia, resulting from a
prestigious traditional dish, shark fin soup. The fin does not add taste to the soup; rather, it s prized
for its slippery, sinewy, glutinous texture (Bradsher, Woo 1, Wolchover). Beliefs of medical
properties of shark fin soup include increase virility, enhanced skin quality, the ability to lower
cholesterol, and the ability to prevent heart disease. However, studies have disproved this (Pollack).
Truth is, there is no major medical benefits in shark fin (Wolchover). In fact, shark fin is unhealthy,
