STI Essay
Adults and teens alike know the possible risks of sexual content, yet it is still a growing problem.
Any sexual contact without proper prevention can put us at risk of an STI. This is part of the
reason why that there are twenty million new cases of STIs every year. In 2015, it was discovered
that teens ages thirteen to twenty four account for over twenty three percent of all HIVcases in the
US. According to the CDC, half of all STI cases are from teens. Even with sharing a water bottle
STIs can spread from person to person. Some STIs are incurable, while others can be cured with a
doctor s help. All people who are educated in health know the risks, and are informed on how some
STIs last a lifetime. Some teens think that STIs are only now... Show more content on

Meanwhile, fifteen point seven percent of teens aged fourteen to nineteen have HSV 2. This strain
causes mild skin irritations or painful lesions. When herpes spreads to the genitals, it is known as
genital herpes. One can be infected in the genitals with both forms of herpes in the genitals. This
infection has always been extremely common, and is usually not noticeable.
Technological advances have allowed some STIs to become curable. Gonorrhea is one of these.
Gonorrhea is a bacteria that infects different membranes in the genital area. Some are the urinary
tract and cervix. It can also possibly infect the eyes and throat. The CDC shows that around five
hundred and fifty thousand new Gonorrhea cases in the United States were from people aged
fifteen to twenty four in 2016. To spread Gonorrhea, ejaculation does not need to occur. It causes
genital pain and abnormally colored discharge. These symptoms aren t why Gonorrhea can be
dangerous. In women, if spread to the fallopian tubes, Gonorrhea can cause PID, which causes
pain. PID, if untreated, could lead to permanent infertility. In rare cases, Gonorrhea can also affect a
man s fertility. If a pregnant women has it, she can pass it on to the child. To cure it, the CDC
recommends a mix of two different medicines. This treatment plan can get rid of the disease, but
cannot replace damaged body parts. Some Gonorrhoeae strains are what is known as antimicrobial
resistant.
Ernest Hemmingway Research Paper

Every writer has his or her own unique style of writing. Writing is such a personal matter that authors
have no choice but to get creative. One of the most famous, classic American writers and journalists
was Ernest Hemmingway. Ernest Hemmingway had one of the most unique writing styles of all
time. His distinctive writing style, characterized by economy and understatement, influenced 20th
century fiction, as did his life of adventure and public image. Ernest Hemingway s fictional style of
writing was successful due to the fact that the characters he presented exhibited authenticity that
resonated with his audience. He created characters that would directly relate and grow upon ... Show

Many literature analysts believe that his writing style was influenced by his time spent in World
War I. It is also thought that while at war Hemmingway lost his faith in the central institutions of
Western civilization. Hemmingway created his own style of writing that reacted against the
elaborate style of 19th century writers. By creating a style in which meaning is established through
dialogue, through action, and silence he was able to create a fiction in which nothing crucial is
stated explicitly. He said everything while keeping under the radar per say. That is how the Iceberg
Theory came into place with Hemmingway s writing style.
The Iceberg Theory, also know as the Theory of Omission, was a theory that was all about how
Hemmingway kept the he facts floating above the water but keeps the supporting structure and
symbolism operate out of sight just like the structural view of an iceberg. In other words the
meaning of a piece is not immediately evident, because the crux of the story lies below the
surface, just as most of the mass of a real iceberg similarly lies beneath the surface. In
Hemmingway s novel The Art of the Short Story, he explains, A few things I have found to be true.
If you leave out important things or events that you know about, the story is strengthened. If you
leave or skip something because you do not know it, the story will be worthless. The test of any story
The Powerful, Just, and Insensitive Government
The Powerful, Just, and Insensitive Government
The civilized society is built my men and women who favor law and order, which serve as the
infrastructure of a stable society. The strict interpretation and abidance of the established law may
lead to punishments greater than the perpetrator deserves. On example in history is Hammurabi s
Code, which utilizes the law of retribution; part of Hammurabi s law has been interpreted as an eye
for an eye; a tooth for a tooth , in which the perpetrator will face the same consequence as his victim.
Nowadays, lawful punishment became less radical, and certainly less extreme compared to the Code
of Hammurabi. However, contemporary governments are very centralized, and citizens have
collectively given the government power to rule, control, and regulate the citizens, criminal or not.
By juxtaposing four New York Times articles, we will see the government sometimes regulate the
freedom of individuals for the benefit of the public.
The following paragraphs will summarize the four articles and establish a relationship between them.
In the article written by Richard A. Oppel Jr., titled Army General Apologize to Victims of
Misconduct Before Being Sentenced, the author explains the current ruling of Brigadier General
Jeffery Sinclair, who has pleaded guilty of mistreating junior officers, adultery, and soliciting explicit
pictures from female soldiers, among other lesser charges. The maximum prison sentence of the
General s crimes is 25 years;
The Ineffectiveness Of Needle Exchange Programs
Imagine living in a world where the government supplied drug addicts with free drugs. This is
what is happening with the needle exchange. Needle Exchange Programs allow injecting drug
users to trade in dirty needles for clean needles at little to no cost. Using dirty needles, or needles
that have already been used, is one of the main causes of HIVand other blood borne illnesses. There
have been many studies that show this correlation. There are many problems that make Needle
Exchange programs ineffective.
One recent example of this takes place in Scott County Indiana. In the time span of just two months,
a fast spreading outbreak of HIV had torn through the entire county. Scott Counties eight cases of
HIV quickly became 81, making it one of
Muslim Culture
Exactly what is considered as a Muslim? A Muslim is defined as a believer in Islam, however a
Black Muslim is considered as a member of the nation of Islam. A follower of the religion of Islam,
as Muslims, means one who submits to god. Muslims came in the seventeenth century with slaves
from Africa. The history of MuslimAmericans goes back more than 400 years. America is called
home for the Muslims, they present as taxi drivers, homemakers, and also entertainers. Muslim
Americans make up at least one percent of the U.S. population ( Teaching Tolerance ).
Muslims are considered to have unique beliefs and traditions of their culture. For instance, one of
their beliefs is that hard work pays off. Seventy one percent agree that most people who want to
get ahead in the U.S. can make it if they re willing to work. ( Muslim Americans: Middle Class
and Mostly Mainstream ). Muslims were the first to establish awareness of astronomy. Their
outlook and values are extremely religious and very educated. They are worried about their life and
how they re living. Muslims are obligated to pray five times a day such as pre dawn, midday,
afternoon, sunset, and night. They believe that there is only one god, the religion of Abraham. I
learned that Muslims who don t pray five times a day are considered as living an ungodly life.
However, I believe the opposite which is that a person does not have to pray at a specific time every
day, but rather when a person feels the need to pray. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From my research, I discovered that this organization is known for saying that they are not
connected to any terrorists and that America is to blame. Gilani has said, We are fighting to
destroy the enemy. We are dealing with evil at its roots and its roots are America. He says that the
U.S. has become a pawn of hidden hands that use America s wealth and the innocent blood of their
sons and daughters to wage war against Muslims. (Mauro, Muslims of the America MOA ). MOA
organization is constantly monitored by Homeland Security. Homeland Security is an American
organization considered to keep America our country safe and secure against terrorism. There are
five home secure mission such as, prevent terrorism and enhancing security, secure and manage our
borders, enforce and administer our immigration laws, safeguard and secure cyberspace and ensure
resilience to disasters. Lipton states an article written by Ryan Mauro states that the Department of
Homeland Security says MOA is linked to Jamaat Ul Fuqra, a Pakistan militant group led by Gilani.
In 1998, the State Department said Ul Fuqra is an Islamic sect that seeks to purify Islam through
violence. (Muslims of the America MOA.) I find this information to be disturbing because in my
readings I found out that MOA says Osama Bin Ladin is a Saudi activist. An activist is someone
that fights for their country and its people. I know Osama as the person that
Thin Layer Chromatography ( Tlc )
Thin layer chromatography (TLC) is a technique used to identify components within a compound
and determine the compounds purity. The purpose of this experiment is to determine what
solvent works the best at separating the different pigments of the paprika extract. The solvents
used to develop the plate are hexane and methyl tert butyl ether (MTBE), as well as three
mixtures of the two solutions (5% MTBE in hexane, 10% MTBE in hexane, and 30% MTBE in
hexane). Hexane is a non polar alkane that is used as a solvent for many different things and
MTBE is a polar ether that is used as a fuel additive. In this experiment, five TLC plates were set
up and ran in each of the five prepared solvents. There are four steps when performing TLC which
include: spot (touch the capillary to the plate briefly so the compound runs out and forms a small
spot on the plate), develop (choose a solvent to develop the plate, then place the slide in the
developing chamber), visualize (when the solvent reaches the stop line, remove and visualize the
data), and calculate (measure the distance between the spot and start line to calculate the Rf
values). Rf= Distance traveled by spot Distance traveled by solvent Procedure Extraction of
carotenoids from paprika powder. First weigh out 0.5 g of paprika powder and place it in a 50 mL
beaker. Then add a magnetic stir bar to the beaker and 5 mL of methyl tert butyl ether (MTBE),
allowing it to stir for 5 10 minutes. Vacuum filter the solution
Examine the Framework of the Four Noble Truths
Examine the framework of the Four Noble Truths
Sean Reece Grange
The Four Noble Truths are much like a doctor s prescription; they are Buddha s prescription for
suffering. In the first two truths he diagnoses the problem of suffering, and identifies its cause. The
third truth is the discovery of a cure, and the fourth noble truth is the prescription as the Buddha sets
out the Eightfold path to achieve a release from suffering. Suffering is a serious illness to Buddhist s
because it keeps us in Samsara, the cycle of birth, death and rebirth and prevents us from attaining
enlightenment. The first step in the Buddha s medical process is to diagnose the problem, and this
means identifying Dukkha. The first noble truth is the truth of ... Show more content on

After the diagnosis the Buddha must then discover the cause of suffering, and this leads us on to the
second noble truth, Samudya or craving.
What is the noble truth of the origin of suffering? It is craving which renews being and is
accomplished by relish and lust... The Buddha on the origin of suffering Sammyutta Nikava
Desire is caused by our ignorance of reality, and is fuelled by our ambition to become, meaning to
have life hopes and dreams, such as to be wealthy. This causes us to grasp onto the things we are
afraid to lose in our lives lest we fall short of our goal because of it. It is this that keeps us rooted in
the cycle of Samsara.
There are three forms of desire (Tanha) and they show us the different ways we cause our own
suffering. Kama Tanha, meaning sensual pleasures, shows the desire to have any form of
pleasure that stimulates our senses. Bhava Tanha is the desire to become we all have life dreams
and hopes, and these ambitions cause us to desire our goals, and finally, Vibhava Tanha is the
desire to get rid of. We say things like I want to get rid of my anger rather than accepting it, and life,
as the way it is. The only reality worth contemplating is Anicca, because of change.
The third noble truth, the cure, is Nirodha
Donald Super s Life Span Theory
For many people, finding a career that is both fulfilling and practical is a strenuous task.
Fortunately, there is a plethora of different interventions, techniques, assessments, and inventories
designed to aid those individuals in making the wisest career choices possible. But are any of
those routes inherently better than the others? Or are all the differing options separate but
equally effective? Donald Super s Life Span Theory and John Holland s Theory of Vocational
Choice are just two of the many theories used for career counseling. Both methods are distinct in
the way they approach career issues, yet despite their differences, there are some resemblances
between the two theories as well. Comparing and contrasting these two theories will make it
easier to see if one theory is better than the other for career counseling or if they are both equally
effective. Super s Life Span Theory is one of several developmental theories. Developmental
theories are concerned with career choices made over an individual s lifetime. They are based
around the influence that biological, psychological, sociological, and cultural factors have on
career decisions as well as other choices that are made in a person s life. Super s Theory is
different from other developmental theories because it proposes that psychological and
socioeconomic factors have a role in the development of the self, that self concept affects vocational
development, that both individual and life roles play a key part in

Halloween By Diane Arbus Analysis
Masks
In the photograph Halloween by Diane Arbus there are two children dressed up for Halloween in
the foreground. The central figure in this photograph is a child in a cute Mickey Mouse costume.
Based on his height he is most likely around the age of five to six. Despite his appealing costume,
the boy is wearing a scary mask on his face. The mask is a skeleton s face with its mouth and eyes
wide open. Mickey Mouse s face on the boy s costume, is smiling, which is a contradictory
expression to the mask. The boy is standing upright, but putting more pressure on his left side,
allowing him to lean a bit. Both of his hands are raised parallel to his shoulders. His fingers are
curled like he is trying to scare someone. The body language of the boy appears that he ... Show more

The little girl is also wearing a Halloween costume. Unlike the boy s cheerful Mickey Mouse
costume, her dress has bats and spider webs on it. There also seems to be a rope on the dress,
meant to look like a bow. Similar to the boy, the girl is also wearing a mask. Instead of a skeleton
s face, her mask looks like a creepy doll s face. The girl is also standing upright to the left of the
boy and a little behind him. It appears that her hands are raised too. Her left hand is hidden
behind the boy, so it is unclear what it is doing. In her right hand she is holding something, but
her fingers are similarly curled, as if she is also trying to scare someone. The way her shoulders
are shrugging makes her appear to also be uncomfortable with her position. By looking at the
background, it appears that the children are in the city. There are buildings lined up all the way
down the street and cars are parallel parked next the sidewalk. Two or three other people are also
walking on the sidewalk. All around where the two children are standing is a lot of trash and
cracks on the ground. Directly behind the children is a break of the buildings and instead a fence.
Up against the fence is where most the trash is
A Twitch Upon The Thread
The second book of Evelyn Waugh s book Brideshead Revisited is, significantly, entitled A Twitch
Upon the Thread. The meaning of this title reflects on many characters in this book, but
particularly on Charles Ryder, the narrator and main character. In Book I of this novel the
characters generally become more and more distanced from their faith. Book II is entitled A
Twitch Upon the Thread because this is when Charles and other characters start to find their faith
again and get pulled back into Catholicism, like an unseen hook and an invisible line which is
long enough to let him wander to the ends of the world and still to bring him back (Waugh 220).
For most of the novel it is clear that Charles is agnostic. Not until the second book and ending do
we see Charles slowly start his conversion from agnosticism to Catholicism. We do know, however,
that Charles was taken to church weekly as a child (85), so this recent discovery of Catholicism is
really a return to God. As the character Cordelia says in an argument with Charles while discussing
her father and sibling s loss of religion, God won t let them go for long (220). In other words, the
twitch upon the thread is inevitable. Charles slowly starts his conversion when he sees Lord
Marchmain (also an agnostic) while dying accepts his last sacrament. Then in the Epilogue, Charles
makes it apparent that he is in fact a Catholic when he discusses the candle that stays lit, which refers
to the candle that stays lit
The Dog s Living Situation
The Dog s living situation prior to being rescued was mostly unknown. However, Buddy the Pit
Bull Terrier was living in a ranch house that a couple bought, he was abandoned there. The
owners could not be contacted and made no effort to retrieve Buddy. The consensus of the new
house owners and the local veterinarian and shelters is that Buddy was trained in a violent
manner to be a fighting dog. The Age of Buddy is not completely known thought veterinarian
know that he is not a puppy and mature (over the age of two and he is not geriatric most likely
somewhere between 2 and 5 years old. There are two women Cherry and Lee, the life partners
who moved into the house with four smaller dogs, two Cairn Terriers and two Scottish Terriers
ranging from 2 to 16 years old, one named Stella 12 insists on being an alpha type dog and
imposes her will on the other dogs. Buddy the Pit bull believes strangers pose a threat almost
exclusively people in this case not dogs of some sort to his owners and companion dogs. In order
the handle this aggressive behavior, namely biting his owners are forced to make him wear a
muzzle most all of the time. The initial method used to control Buddy s behavior was introducing
a new or outside person to the family. Wearing his muzzle he tried to attack the new person. Buddy
was separated by Cesar Milan, who was firm with the dog and followed the animal until the two
engaged each other eye to eye. Caesar then took control of the Dog getting him to sit by
