Effects Of Political Corruption In Nigeria
Political corruption is a significant problem in Africa. Many of the regions in Africa were
seeking for independence from European nations that had caused for political views to differ. The
ideas of leaders were not all similar which may have created a majority of these countries in Africa
to express their feelings and form their own political parties. Besides wanting to be freed from
European rule, the rise of political corruption could also be faulted to the African leaders of different
regions of Africato voice their own beliefs with the determination that it lacked unifying the nation s

The transformation of politics in Nigeria fell into the trap of military rule that caused for chaos to
occur across the country. Colonial chiefs were taking positions in office which they were not
qualified for and used force and bribery to win over the people of Nigeria. The idea that Nigeria
was being set up in this form of government was misleading and did not let the people feel as
though they were independent. Regional leaders were seeking to take over local politics of this
country and were able to do so when it came to the national and local elections. When Nigeria,
revamped their constitution in the 1950s, which divided Nigeria into three different regions caused
a fight to see who would control the political party. Nigeria located in West Africa is made up of
three separate cultures in the area that lead to disunity and issues with the government. The Hausa
Fulani in the north, the Yoruba in the west, and Ibo in the east. Amongst these cultures, they started
to form their political parties. There was the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons, the
Action Group and Northern People s Congress. The British should be held responsible for
encouraging these groups to compete against one another. The British were responsible for favoring
other political parties over others that would help create cockiness to development in the long run.
The British mostly supported the N.C.N.C and allowed
Poisonwood Bible Comparison
Throughout many novels different characters are sent to a new place to explore and find new
things in life. An excellent example would be how the characters in the novel Poisonwood Bible
explore a new lifestyle in the Congo. While they are there they have to learn how to adapt to a new
life, and they try and teach the Congolese people how to worship the God, Jesus Christ. Even
though the Congolese people may believe in different Gods, the Price family, especially Nathan feels
that it is their duty to teach them different ways. Thus the poem We Grow Accustomed To The
Dark by Emily Dickinson, is similar because it is talking about how people become accustomed to
a different lifestyle just like the Price family did in the Poisonwood Bible. In... Show more content on

This further impacted the children Rachel and Leah, being the oldest daughters in the family.
Rachel was a daughter that loved her father and she at first felt that he was the best person in the
world. She would always follow him around and be his little princess, that was until she started to
see the bad things that he started doing in the dark, mysterious place they were living in. She
started to see how arrogant and defensive he became throughout the community and how he threw
hissy fits. She realized that enough was enough and she needed to grow accustomed to this new
place by herself, just like the narrator did in the poem. This is because she knew that her dad was
just going insane and he wanted too much power. She now felt bad for her mom and what he had
done to her, and wanted to side with her mom to get out of the community that they were in because
they had enough of it. Another thing that happened in the Congo while she was there was something
absurd and scarring to say the least. Her sister had started to hunt with the men for meat and
Rachel saw what they did when they killed the poor animals lives. Rachel was so startled and
appalled that she had to become a vegetarian for a short time while they were there. This just shows
that she had to adapt to a new lifestyle because she could not think of eating a poor animal that had
an innocent life, but her sister Leach could have cared
The Gold Rush Of California
Gold is a very precious metal that with in any community is pressed very highly. To a surprise to
several, after the United States won California from Mexico. A land owner had found several
pieces of gold along the river bed of the San Francisco. Circumstances lead to this land owner not
wanting to reveal this information to the world. Nevertheless, the information was spread so
began the Gold Rush in California. This magnificent event gave light to great change but was it
the right move for progress and growth for the new founded country the United States. Growth in
my eyes is defined as the increase of wealth among all the population that is living in a general area.

However the turning point was the way the environment was being effected by the means of
destroying the land to get to the gold dug into the ground. Over all the gold rush was looked at as
a great passage in the right direction for developing a modern world but it ended up leading us
back, words, back into an era where monarchy rules the world. The daily life of a miner was far
from perfect. The way the papers and other means of propaganda had portrayed getting rich quick,
but it was far from easy. All the equipment that was needed to start out as a miner was for the most
part outrageous. The earning wages from gold was sixteen dollars an ounce pg.8. Even so, the
work was backbreaking. There was swarms of minors trying to get rich quick. To many miners
that traveled to get a piece of the precious metal they where resorted to taking land from previous
land owner just to get ahead in the Gold Rush. Not to mention that the living conditions where
also outrageous. The rentals of hotels and other business structures, whether of boards or of
canvas, reached even dizzier heights than did commodity prices pg.8. This spaces where set
prices at 3,000 dollars a month or 40,000 dollars for a year, there was also other prices around the
area of San Francisco. And in some cases miners where resorted to living in a room filled to the
brim with other miners. This lead to very poor conditions for any one to live in. But nothing was
better then being rich in a few months or
Perfect Competition In The Tapese Market
In this scenario, the Tapese people of the island of Tap are being exposed to two market structures,
perfect competition and a monopoly. A perfectly competitive market is a hypothetical market where
competition is at its greatest possible level and some key characteristics of a perfectly competitive
market are, many buyers and sellers, a homogeneous product, which is one that cannot be
distinguished from competing products from different suppliers. In other words, the product has
essentially the same physical characteristics and quality as similar products from other suppliers.
Furthermore, a perfectly competitive market has perfect information, they are price takers, and there
are no barriers to entry. With perfect information in a market,

Because of the discernable correlation between labor productivity and overall productivity, the
damaging losses were a result of low labor productivity. Ebony Hills Golf Course had increased
labor hours and costs, but revenues had fallen. The strategies recommended focused on cost
reduction and price increases. Reducing staff during non peak seasons and increasing prices were
recommendations that potentially may yield positive profits for Ebony Hills. The SWOT analysis
exposed opportunities to create more revenues during non peak season by establishing cooperative
agreements with local high schools and colleges. The research paper gave a real world example of
how to utilize multifactor productivity measurements to uncover inefficiencies within a firm.

As we head into the 4th quarter, you are super focused on ending the year with a bang, right? It is
also the best time to start thinking about your plans for the upcoming year. Take a look at your
current year to date actual figures and answer these questions:

How ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Without it you are operating your business blindly. Trying to hit a target that you can t even see.
Have you ever tried to shoot a dart at a bullseye? Very hard to do right. Well operating a business
without a budget is like trying to hit that same bulls eye in the dark. Impossible to hit that target...
unless you can see in the dark.

2. Not tracking against your actuals.

Once you have a budget you must compare how you are performing to that budget regularly.
Minimally once per quarter. If you don t do this critical step then you have no idea how good or bad
you are doing as compared to that plan. Comparing your budget to your actuals helps you
understand what is really going on in your business. It also helps you see how your business is
trending year over year as well as compared to your industry competitors.

3. Not following your budget.

Once you create your budget you MUST FOLLOW IT. Say it with me I WILL FOLLOW MY
BUDGET. There is nothing worse than creating a budget and not following it. Why create a plan
and then place it in a drawer and never look it again? That is the equivalent of not having a budget
at all. Would you climb a mountain without a guide? No. Would you buy a house without
determining a budget around how much house you can afford and the taxes and the insurance and
the utilities. No. So why would you operate your business without a plan? Following your budget

How Does Shakespeare Present Clothing In Hamlet
Throughout the play Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare, the motif of clothing is consistently
used to portray the theme of appearance versus reality. The opening scene is about a ghost
resembling Hamlet senior dressed in a military outfit, giving off a different message than some
assume. Later on, Hamlethimself not only depicts this message through his clothing, but also
blatantly states that clothing does not resemble a man s inner feelings. Also, through the symbolism
of Gertrude s shoes, once again the theme is seen. The imagery of clothing in Hamlet is used to
illustrate the message of is versus seems.
The ghost of Hamlet senior dressed for battle is the first demonstration of looks versus reality. In
the beginning of Act I, Marcellus, Barnardo and Horatio see a ghost of the dead king of Denmark.
The ghost appears looking exactly like Hamlet senior dressed in his military outfit that he used to
wear in battle. Once the ghost shortly disappears, they all start interpreting its meaning. Horatio
believes the ghost is here as a warning of eruption to our state. Barnardo agreeingly states, I think it
be no other but e en so / Well may it sort that this portentous figure / Comes armed through our
watch so like the king / That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In one of Hamlet s rants, he mentions that Gertrude wore the same shoes to her husband s funeral
as she wore to her next wedding, only weeks later. Hamlet mentions, A little month, or ere those
shoes were old / With which she followed my poor father s body, / Like Niobe, all tears (I.II.147
149). Hamlet is suggesting that his mother was possibly putting on a display the whole time his
parents were married. Perhaps it was all a lie and Gertrude was merely putting on phony tears at her
husband s funeral. Although Gertrude appeared to be heartbroken by her husband s death, she did
not have trouble moving on and remarrying in such a short time
Helmet In Baseball
Because of the flying ball and fast base pitching an equipment developed to withstand ball force to
the head, and the eyes. The helmet with eye fold on the side was the equipment that made it
possible to bat against pitcher without a fear of losing ear or eye or having concussion by receiving
a blow to the head.
The helmet revolutionized to sooth specific job like the batting helmet that has eye protection, and
catcher s helmet that has face protection included. Both done same job to protect the player from
possible injuries. During the hot days of summer while the season of baseball starts players were
struggling with the sun shininess by sometimes losing the vision of the ball. To prevent the sun from

Examples Of Suffering In Refugee Blues
How is human suffering presented in Refugee Blues ? Refugee Blues , by W.H. Auden was written
six months before the outbreak of the Second World War; when the Nazis were in power in
Germany and Hitler had called for the removal of Jews. Human suffering is presented in Refugee
Blues by using many different techniques such as similes, repetition, rhyme and metaphor to show
the discrimination of the Jews. Also Auden used a Blues song structure to emphasise the
unhappiness of the Jewish people and their desire to escape from persecution, their loss of identity
and their hopelessness. Blues is originally a type of music with emotional intensity which criticised
society and strongly shows the melancholy feeling similar to the feeling of African American slaves.
I believe that Auden understood and could sympathize with the plight since he visited Germany and
was horrified by the persecution of Jews. Also, as he was homosexual, he may have experienced
similar persecution first hand . The major theme in Refugee Blues is humansuffering; man s
inhumanity to man and the dehumanization of the Jewish refugees. Refugee Blue is written in first
person narrative, for example, Once we had a country , We... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In Refugee Blue , the narrator repeats the affectionate phrase my dear on the last line in every stanza.
This shows that Auden and his companion are ordinary citizens; allow us as a reader to relate to
the situation and perhaps sympathies more on the persecution and isolation felt by the Jews. The
repetition of my dear also highlights the monotonous life of the Jews and Yet there s no place for us,
my dear, yet there s no place for us , But where shall we go to day, my dear, where shall we go to
day? mirrors the constant struggle of the Jews as they are moved on or sent away from anywhere

Orson Welles in Citizen Kane Essay
Orson Welles in Citizen Kane

Orson Welles produced, directed and starred in Citizen Kane, the classic masterpiece which
communicates its original narrative through ground breaking cinematography, lighting, music,
setting, sound and performances. The film has underlying symbols in every single shot, and uses
innumerable cinematic devices to convey meaning. One of the many implications Citizen Kane
makes is strongly embodied in the sequence of Kane and his wife Susan at their palace, Xanadu.
Welles choice of camera shots, mise en scene and movement in this sequence are used effectively to
symbolize women s inferiority to men.

The manner in which Susan Alexander is shot in this sequence is ... Show more content on

As the camera cuts to a long shot taken from behind Kane s left shoulder, Susan appears so small
that the spectator must actually search the mise en scene for her. By choosing these particular
camera shots and angles, Welles uses cinematic devices to portray women.

Mise en scene takes an important role in this sequence, as it strongly illustrates the powerlessness
and irrelevance of Susan. In front of the vast empty fireplace completing her endless jigsaw
puzzles, Susan kneels near the bottom of the frame, which symbolizes defencelessness and
insignificance. To her right, there is a fire pump which is so large it dwarfs her, and behind to her
left is a massive statue of a Roman goddess. This is ironic, since deities represent strength and
authority, both of which Susan is completely lacking. The goddess takes on the dominant role of this
shot instead of the living person, Susan. This particular use of mise en scene represents the
inequality between men and women in the film.

Susan s movements also play a major role in implying the submissiveness of women. Gentle,
graceful hand movements as she places puzzle pieces, a slow turn of the head as she acknowledges
Kane s entrance, and delicately twitching her fingers as she begs Charles to go to New York; all of
which indicate frailty and helplessness.

Covey s Concept of Empathic Listening

Management 501, a curriculum rich in principles regarding issues both personal and professional,
has presented a myriad of concepts which represent tremendous truths applicable to the concept of
self improvement. Senge, Sholtes and Covey, internationally renowned authors, provide a wealth of
knowledge which empowers individuals to effect life changing decisions through the planning,
doing, studying and acting (PDSA) upon these concepts. It is amazing that as others witness change
in us, via the practical application of these principles, many are encouraged to affect the same in
themselves. Of all the many concepts and principles I ve studied ... Show more content on

I explained to my wife Susan the new concept of listening I had recently learned via Covey and her
response was so you re learning to become an empath , and began to recite a list of known empaths.
I smiled and thought to myself, If you were aware of this concept, why haven t you been using it.
During interactions with my daughter, I have had the joy of watching much different reactions
and responses as I implement empathic listening. Her responses are less defensive as she feels
less the need to defend her position and more open to engage in dialog versus discussion. I have
tested empathic listening with my wife Susan, and watched her responses become more amiable as
she doesn t feel challenged as we engage vocally. Conversations in general seem to go smoother as
dialog replaces defensive conversation. I also noticed while attempting to engage in emphatic
listening/dialog with one of my older children, in which she repeatedly attempted to change the
conversation from dialog to defensive discussion. I had the fun of explain to her that this was dialog
not discussion , giving her the definition of both terms and explained that neither of us needed to
defend our position, just talk about it. Per the PDSA cycle, I will act by continually working to
improve my listening skills and seek opportunities to teach others the importance of emphatic
listening and the benefits it brings to relationships. How much do we improve as individuals, what
Liturgy of Saint Denis and Companions
Part 1 Liturgy of Saint Denis and Companions

October 9 is the celebration day of the feast of St. Denis and his companions, Rusticus the priest
and Eleutherius the deacon, who were both martyred alongside and buried with him. Veneration
of St. Denis and his companions began shortly after his death and added to the Roman calendar in
1568 by Pius V, even though it had already been celebrated regularly since about the year 800 AD.
In traditional Catholic practice, Denis is invoked against diabolical possession and issues of head
pain, the obvious allusion to his beheading. (St. Denis and Companions, 2012). In the Middle Ages
many wore bright colors, some encrusted with jewels during the Feast of St. Denis, particularly in
those cathedrals named after him. This was to signify the movement into a world of light and
comfort based on suffering on earth (Levy, ed., p. 354). Feasts of the saints arose from the early
Christian customs of both commemorating their death and their rebirth into heaven. The readings
for the feast of St. Denis include material from Paul s second letter to the Corinthians (6: 4 10) in
which Paul emphasizes that humans are servants of God in all ways. It is through endurance in
hardships, imprisonments, hunger, and hate that the Holy Spirit enters into us and helps us
understand that there is a greater plan. The issue of sowing in tears shall reap rejoicing focuses on
the issue of suffering on this plane of existence versus finding spiritual comfort
