Argumentative Essay On Truck Drivers
Driving a semi truck isn t the most glamorous job in the world. It requires long hours, days, or
weeks, away from home, and it s physically demanding. Still, there are thousands of truck drivers
across the country that truly wouldn t have it any other way. To these hardy folks, driving a big
rig isn t just a job, it s a way of life. Surely, they must receive some sort of perks that make it all
worth while? Yes, they do. In fact, there are three major benefits of working for an OTR trucking
company that keep drivers rolling along.

Excellent Pay

For the most part, newly licensed truck drivers can expect to enter the job market with a salary of
somewhere around $45,000 the first year. Depending upon the company they work for, and the
cargo they haul, experienced driver s pay can reach six digits. What s more, they often receive
benefits such as a 401K, health insurance, and bonuses. This is exceptional, especially when you
consider the fact that obtaining a commercial driver s license (CDL) takes weeks, rather than years.

CDL holders with a clean record, who are safety conscious and professional are among the most
valuable employees. They can easily move from one company to another, often increasing their pay
along the way. There are also ample opportunities for advancement, such as obtaining a HAZMAT
endorsement, or working in the oil and gas industry, both of which command an even higher salary.
For those that prefer to work on their own, becoming an independent owner/operator is always an
option. This kind of job security is unheard of in most industries.

Genetically Modified Food and Crops

Genetically Modified Food and Crops Title Page:

Following the American Psychological Association s Guidelines

Abstract

Since the 1980 s scientists have been altering crops, including some of the food we eat (Fairly
Gaskins, 2000). Genetically modified food has always been a concern for many people. I find the
concerns to be unwarranted because there has never been a negative health report due to the fact
of consuming GM foods. Biotechnology gives us the best means for solving the world s food
shortage now and in the future. Genetically modified crop plants are now grown on nearly 150
million acres in the United States alone, helping farmers to increase yields, reduce pesticide
spraying, and save ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No effects have been shown and GM foods will continue to be regulated in more and more countries
(World Health Organization, 2002). GM crops are never expected to present a health risk and
therefore should reassure government officials worldwide in the use of this technology.

Another concern of GM technology is the effect it has on the environment. The environmental risks
of biotechnology are also unidentified just like the health trepidations. No scientific evidence proves
that GM crops are harmful to the environment. U.S. officials pointed out that scientists in Europe
had been unable to find any evidence of added risk to human health or the environment from any
GM crop variety developed to date. In fact, none of the studies by Europe found any scientific
evidence of added harm to humans or the environment (Paarlberg, 2003). GM engineering will
actually help the environment rather than harm it. In the U.S. alone farmers annually administer
more than nine hundred seventy million tons of insect and plant killers. Now GM crops have the
ability of containing their own insect and plant killing gene which means the farmers can use fewer
chemicals (Tyson, 2001). To ensure that the environment is remaining safe, risk assessments are
conducted for the GM product as well as the area in which the crop will grow (World Health
Organization, 2002). Furthermore, the United Nations

Environment Program has used funding for developing countries to

Desertion Clifford Simak Analysis
Essay Star War, Star Trek, those are probably the names that pops into your head when you think of
science fiction. However, for over a hundred years, artists and philosophers from all around the
world, has never been certain of the true definition of Science Fiction. Although, individual
definition of science fictionhas erupted in the few decades, especially during the 19th century, when
the idea of extraterrestrial surged the media. Today, there are numerous definition of sciencefiction,
each different from one another in its own element. For example, science fiction stories, according to
Ray Bradbury are a possibility that has happened in the past or will happen in time. This means that

The setting of the story itself is beyond the minds of normal people in 1944, and when the
audience was exposed to it, the definition of sci fi was reshaped. It began with the colonization of
humans on the planet of Jupiter, the largest planet, with great atmosphere pressure. Humans live
inside a Dome, and can not explore beyond it, except if they turn themselves into another alien
form. Many brave men have transformed themselves and walked out the dome, only to disappear
and never return. Fowler, the head leader of the Dome has had enough, and decided to send
himself and his puppy out. The story is considered a science fiction because of its imaginative
concept of futuristic, space exploration and extraterrestrial life. On top of this, the story navigates
through another planet, where humanity must adapt to the environment or die trying. The main
theme in this story is persistence, never giving up no matter the circumstances or the difficulties.
This is demonstrated throughout the whole story, for example, Stanley, the scientist said, You re
going to keep on sentencing them to death, she said. You re going to keep marching them out face
to face with Jupiter. You re going to sit in here safe and comfortable and send them out to die.
This shows that lives after lives are being lost, but Fowler will never give up in find the answer. He
said, If a few men die, but we finally succeed, the price is small. Through the ages men have thrown
away their lives on foolish things, for foolish reasons. Why should we hesitate, then, at a little death
in a thing as great as this? This demonstrates his hunger to finding the solution, the solution that will
enable humanity to explore beyond inside the Dome. Fowler and his men are willing to continue
sacrificing themselves because they know the price is worth it for the great evolution of mankind.
The theme of the story,

The Influences of the Scientific Revolution on the Enlightenment
The Scientific Revolution was a period of rapid scientific advances that occurred in the European
nations between the 16th and 17th century. Famed scientists such as Nicolaus Copernicus and
Galileo Galilei questioned the widely held beliefs on astronomy based upon the assertions of the
Catholic church. These curiosities lead to an unquenchable desire to explore and observe the
occurences of the natural world and slowly lead the scientists away from the authority of the church.
More scientists such as Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes focused their explorations on inductive
and deductive reasoning to more efficiently analyze situations. Philosophers during the

Novum Organum, written by Francis Bacon, focused on how to hypothesize during experiments.
Bacon suggested that it is idle to expect any great advancement in science from super inducing and
engrafting of new things upon old. Bacon also emphasized the fact that only referencing arguments
on past experiments was pointless. By only viewing past experiments, it was impossible for
scientists to develop more in their new experiments. The combination of viewing both types of
experiments, new and old, was a major part of inductive reasoning. Descartes focused more on
deductive reasoning compared to Bacon. Rene aspired to create a new system of truth through
deductive reasoning. In his book, I Think, Therefore I Am, he stated that he refused to accept any
knowledge unless it was clearly true. Another one of his methods was to isolate each part of
everything he examined to avoid bias. Descartes found through his methods that deductive reasoning
required only accepting the truth, breaking the problem into parts and analyzing the problem. John
Locke addressed inductive reasoning and deductive reasoning with his theories in his publication,
Some Thoughts Concerning Education. John Locke claimed that every person was born with a
clean slate and their education was vital to their well being. His mission to
Essay on Gender Studies in Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights
Gender Studies in Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights

Gender played an important role in the style of writing known as Gothic . Traditional stereotypes
were often broken. Men were not always portrayed as dominant, strong, rational or masculine.
Likewise, women were not always portrayed as weak, submissive, irrational, or feminine. This essay
will take a look at the relationship between Catherine and Edgar Linton in Emily Brönte s Wuthering
Heights. We will take a look at how their characters are portrayed, how this affected their marriage,
and how each character retained some of the traits attributed to their gender.

Catherine s character will be examined first, since she is one of the main characters in the book.
Catherine was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On our first glimpse of Edgar, we see him and his sister, Isabella, crying over some ridiculous issue.
Ellen describes him as a mama s boy and a wimp, but he is also quite frank, as we see on page 45
when he buts in on someone else s conversation. To get to the point, Edgar was a very sensitive,
emotional, frail child, not at all portrayed as masculine.

After Catherine and Edgar meet, it is obvious they will be married. One incident in particular
seemed to set the tone of their marriage. On page 55, we see an example of Catherine s horrible
temper and how it manifested itself through physical violence. Edgar, shocked at seeing his idol
(p.55) commit such a deed, became very emotional and decided to leave. As we all know, he did not
get very far before he came back.

In this scene, Catherine became physically dominant, as shown by her use of force on everyone
around her. Her use of manipulation to get Edgar back showed a very rational and intelligent mind
at work, but the fact that she truly cried over the situation shows emotion, even if it was
embarrassment. While Edgar was emotional during this scene, he was determined to leave, at first.
He ultimately proved to be submissive by coming back and giving in to her.

Catherine and Edgar s relationship mirrored the future relationship between Heathcliff and Isabella.
Catherine was no longer physically abusive to Edgar, but emotionally and mentally abusive. We see
a glimpse of this when she blackmailed
Reform Movement During The Civil War
The fastest growing country in the world, during the reform era from 1820 to 1860, was the
United States. Technology and the innovations provided from it brought a dream of prosperity
for all races and creeds. As the northern middle class grew, so did the reform movement. This
growth in the middle class and growth of immigrants coming into America caused some
individuals to change their outlook of schools, slavery, and women s rights. Though great strides
were started in this time period, it was met with a lot of hostility and resentment. It was an uphill
journey when it came to the institutional changes necessary to cause reform. In the period before
the Civil War there were many significant reform movements in American history. During this
time we see reformers dedicate to causes such as free public schools, legal and political rights for
women, and ending slavery. In our textbook we see that industrial change led to a large migration
of immigrants from Europe to move to America for a better life. The first large scale factories
were erected in New England, and for the next thirty years, the United States had the most rapidly
developing industrial economy in the world (Goldfield, Page 315). At this time the middle class
grew as well. This group led to a large population of individuals who believed that social reform was
necessary to provide a better future for their children. Since the middle class was an ever growing
presence, they believed that free
The Benefits Of Fertilizer In Russia
Within Russia, there are several unmet needs across the nation. One potentially viable product that
our organization can introduce is fertilizer for farmers. Fertilizer is a product that may vary from
area to area, but contains the necessary nutrients that are needed to add to local soils for the growth
of specific agricultural products. This is a significant need within Russia, as the agricultural industry
has been falling behind in recent years. It seems that the nation has difficulty producing enough
agricultural product to support its needs from year to year. Additionally, farmers do not often use
fertilizers to help their crops, which in turn prevents increased productivity. If farmers were educated
on the importance of fertilizing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their cost structure is also inefficient, which will require capital to restructure. Because they are
larger companies these changes will take time, and should be incorporated into their vertical
structures. Their current cost structure decreases their profit margins and the marginal benefit from
their economies of scale.1 These mechanical deficits will be to the company s advantage should we
choose to enter the market. This type of enterprise is supported by the Russian government through
tax incentives and lower tariffs, as food production and development is essential to economic
growth. They also specialize in more expensive fertilizers, while there are cheaper components and
means of production in the U.S. These weaknesses can be taken advantage of, while these
competitors are focused elsewhere. The Russian government is encouraging better food production,
especially in wheat farming. Farmers are always looking for ways to beat the constant inflation that
they face. Providing an effective product, at a lower cost with tax breaks can prove profitable.
This product is a utility good, so there are social connotations attached to it. Cultural differences
would arise, when marketing the product to farmers. Marketing should be focused on traditional
media (TV, trade shows, print, Outdoor, industry magazines and face to face), as theirs is not as
technologically developed as the U.S. Straight forward language is required and no
Essay on Clarkson Lumber questions
Clarkson Lumber Company

1. Identify the key problem in the case and explaining why it is the key problem.
Clarkson Lumber Company s biggest problem by far is the fact that Mr. Clarkson had agreed to
buy out Mr. Holtz for $200,000 with semi annual installments of $50,000. It wasn t necessarily a
bad idea for Mr. Clarkson to buy out Mr. Holtz altogether, but the $100,000/year of payments is an
unrealistic amount for Clarkson Lumber at this point in time. Between 1993 and 1995, there hasn t
been a year where they have realized more than $77,000 in net income, so the payment of $100,000
/year is clearly unrealistic and a sure problem for the company. Another problem, which isn t nearly
as important as the former, is that net income is growing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This bank loan helped finance the increase in property and other related assets. The sponaneous
assets that were increased as a result of an increase in sales were financed by an increase in
sponaneous liabilities. Spontaneous liabilities have grown by 35%, which supports the claim that
they finance the increase in accounts receivable and inventories. In the period between 1993 1995,
the financial strength of Clarkson Lumber has deteriorated significantly. As seen from the financial
ratios excel spreadsheet attached, the current and quick ratios have been gone down substantially.
This means that the company s ability to meet its short term obligations has deteriorated.
Furthermore, the return on sales and return on assets have also gone down, which means that their
increase in net income has not stayed consistent with the increase in sales and increase in assets to
finance these sales. Their falling inventory turnover ratio means that even though their sales are
increasing, they are not moving inventory at the same pace they had before. Their low accounts
receivable turnover ratio and high dales sales outstanding indicates that there s a large amount of
money tied in this account.
4. How attractive is it to take the trade discounts?
Trade discounts are very beneficial to a company, especially when these trades are of significant
amounts. In the case of Clarkson Lumber, they can save 2% on a payment that is made within 10
days, which would save
A New Product Introduced By Company
A new product introduced by company always impacts its existing products of same or similar
category. Cannibalization in economics is defined as The negative impact of a company s new
product on the sales performance of its existing related products. Market cannibalization refers to
a situation where a new product eats up the sales and demand of an existing product.
(Investopedia). The energy bars are one of the best selling products of HPC. The introduction of
the new Energy Gel product will cannibalize the sales of energy bar and may reduce the company
s overall profitability. Though in future, the energy gel will provide HPC with product
differentiation approach, but in short term it will impact the sales of the best selling energy bars.
Mr. Leiter the product manager of the energy bars projects that energy gel will reduce the energy
bar sales by roughly 10% per year. That argument does not holds true as first year the energy gel
will only be producing 4.2 Million units and against project 43.3 Million units of energy bar. The
segment and demography of the energy gel and energy bar are slightly different, not everyone
who buys energy gel will buy it in lieu of energy bar which is best selling product at present and it
may take few years before market will get use and acquainted by the advantageous energy gel
product. Since, no big companies are in energy gel market, its more probable that HPC s energy gel
product may put a dent on the other small companies selling
Community Acquired Pneumonia
CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Pneumonia is one of the most common infectious diseases
prevalent nowadays and affects all ages. It is an acute or chronic infection of one or both lungs
caused by microorganisms, such as viruses, bacteria or chemical irritants. (Schmitt, 2011) It has
different types, and one of them is Community Acquired Pneumonia (CAP). CAP is a disease in
which individuals who have not recently been hospitalized develop an infection of the lungs. It
occurs because the areas of the lung which absorbs oxygen (alveoli) from the atmosphere become
filled with fluid and cannot work effectively. (Makati Medical Center, 2012) There are many causes

What Does Morrie Teach People To Live Life
Death is as natural as life, It s part of the deal I made. (Albom, 164) Tuesdays with Morrie is about
an elderly man dying of ALS teaching people how to live. Morrie teaches people to live life
through accepting death, showing love to loved ones before they re gone and that showing emotion
is all right and important. First, Morrie teaches people to live life through accepting death. Morrie
thinks people should accept death by reason of it s important to realize nobody lives forever.
Once you learn how to die, you learn how to live. (Albom, 82) My opinion on this topic is I do

Civil Rights and Civil Liberties

Civil rights and civil liberties sound like they mean the same, however, they have very different
definitions. As stated in the textbook on page 676, to have civil rights means that all rights rooted in
the Fourteenth Amendment s guarantee of equal protection under the law ; which means civil rights
are our basic rights to freedom. As stated in the textbook as well, to have civil liberties means those
personal freedoms that are protected for all individuals. Civil liberties typically involve restraining
the government s actions against individuals . Our civil liberties are protected by our Bill of Rights,

Trump had failed to speak up for civil rights causes. Reading the article, it seemed like the African
American citizens were not fond of President Trump s speech, let alone his presence in attending the
ceremony. A lot of people think he is racist and taking away our natural human rights as citizens for
even allowing travel ban to certain countries. Living in the 21st century, civil rights including racism
and respect should be a simple action to follow. On the contrary, life today is taking us back to the
early 90s with all the human discrimination the world has going on.
Regarding civil liberties, a recent story also regarding President Trump s decision on travel ban, as
stated in the last paragraph, has risen a lot of eyebrows. American citizens have the right to travel,
not that it is a written right, however, we can be free with ourselves of traveling to other countries.
With Trump banning travel from eight countries, several people, including The American Civil
Liberties Union, feel that part of our rights were taken away from us. Some judges seem that this
discriminates certain nationalities, and seems racist for President Trump to do. Civil liberties must
be given to us under the words of the Constitution, no law nor president can take that away.
There have been several court cases regarding civil liberties and civil rights for decades now.
Two court case examples regarding civil rights, found on civilrights.org, are the 1886

Take a minute to relax. Enjoy the lightness, or surprising heaviness, of the paper, the crispness of the
ink, and the regularity of the type. There are over four pages in this stack, brimming with the answer
to some question, proposed about subjects that are necessarily personal in nature. All of philosophyis
personal, but some philosophers may deny this. Discussed here are philosophers that would not be
that silly. Two proto existentialists, Søren Kierkegaardand Friedrich Nietzsche, were keen observers
of humanity, and yet their conclusions were different enough to seem contradictory. Discussed here
will be Nietzsche s preparatory human being and Kierkegaard s knight of faith . Both are archetypal

He goes on, in the same section to state that a men of free spirit, the free spirit being another
name of the archetype of preparatory human being, had a boon in polytheism, for it allowed
people to create their own morality because they chose their gods from many (Science 192). The
free spirit, then, is someone who does not succumb to the pressures of outside morality, but rather
is able to construct, at least partially, his own value. This makes them stand out above others
during the time when a monotheistic morality is in decline. What is said of the preparatory
human being? The preparatory human being does not hold a specific value, but rather Nietzsche
uses behavioral and psychological states to describe someone who has made their own value. In
one aphorism, Nietzsche reveals some of the qualities that the preparatory human beings are
...human beings who are bent on seeking in all things for what in them must be overcome... and
who have ...their own festivals, their own working days, and their own periods of mourning...
(Science 228). Obviously no two free spirits will be the same. This is kind of the point. Nietzsche
s obvious predilection for individuality, originality, and art is expressed here. Preparatory human
beings are not judged by Nietzsche to hold any beliefs, but rather it is the root and effects of their
beliefs that is the real test. They are
