simultaneously. If they travel in the same direction, they meet in 7hours. But, if they travel towards
each other, they meet in 1 hour. Find the speed of each car.
Q. 17) A train covered a certain distance at a uniform speed. If the train had been 5 kmph faster, it
would have taken 3 hours less than the scheduled time. And, if the train were slower by
4kmph, it would have taken 3 hours more than the scheduled time. Find the length of the journey.
Q. 18) A sailor goes 8 km downstream in 40 minutes and returns in 1 hour. Find the speed of the sailor in
still water and the speed of the current.
Q. 19) The area of a rectangle gets reduced by 8 m2, when its length is reduced by 5m and its
breadth is increased by 3m. If we increase the length by 3m and breadth by 2m, the area is
increased by 74 m . Find the length and the breadth of the
2 rectangle.
Q. 20) Two years ago, a man was 5 times as old as his son. Two years later, his age will be 8 more
than three times the age of his son. Find their present ages.
