The Easter Controversy Essay
The Easter Controversy

Easter is the most important celebration for Christianity because it commemorates the Resurrection
of Jesus Christ, a foundational notion upon which the faith is built. Accordingly, it is the principle
feast and the high point of the ecclesiastical year, which has been an established tradition as old as
Christianity. Easter has been universally observed since the middle of the second century. The
original celebration generally consisted of a vigil with readings followed by a feast with the
Eucharist. This was a time for rejoicing because the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus were
seen as a saving unit. Christ s transition from death to resurrection, which ... Show more content on

By the end of the second century, the majority of the Western churches had come to celebrate the
Resurrection on the Sunday that followed the 14th day of the Jewish month Nisan. The Western
Asiatic churches commemorated Jesus death rather than His resurrection and observed it on the 14th
day of Nisan, whether that day fell on a Sunday or not. Therefore, what became known as the Easter
Controversy was not an argument over the day of Jesus resurrection, but rather a disagreement over
what day was most appropriate to commemorate it annually (Catholic Encyclopedia).

The Easter Controversy is the name given to the drawn out dispute in the early Church over the
exact date for the celebration of Easter. As previously mentioned, this disagreement originated
between the West and East at about the middle of the second century. Basically, what was under
concern was whether the Easter celebration must be observed on a Sunday or if it should be
celebrated on the 14th day of Nisan, regardless of the day on which this date may fall. This was
the day on which the Jews celebrated Passover, which is why the Eastern churches like in Asia felt
that since the two festivals were related, it was only fitting to celebrate Easter on that same day.
Although these followers claimed to have received this practice from certain Apostles, specifically
John and Philip, they were

Essay On Crocodile Dundee
Curious is the word that usually comes to mind when one thinks of Australian cinema; it s wacky
and unique styles can be seen across many if not all films that are considered Australian . It should
be of note that some Australian films are produced overseas or with an international cast, they are
still generally considered Australian because they are often predominantly funded by Australian
funding schemes. This essay s focus will be the 1986 film, Crocodile Dundee. Crocodile Dundee is a
classic Australian film, it is the cornerstone of most Australian stereotypes today and often the first
point of call in the topic of Australian films overseas.

1986, in particular, was an eventful year in film; blockbusters such as Aliens, Short Circuit, ... Show

In addition to the landscape, another typical portrayal of Australia is one purely of the outback and
low density far out towns with odd customs along with limited infrastructure compared to other (non
backwater) towns.

Another very blatant characteristic of the film is the use of slang and nicknames for many
characters; in this case slang is much more present in the slightly longer Australian Version of the
film where the international version of the film featured much less slang (especially slang without
context), but references to city cowboys , old bush tricks and sheila are mentioned in the film more
than once.

A common scene in many Australian films and also Crocodile Dundee is the local pub, where
everybody gets together for drinks and other shenanigans that often occur because of all the
drinking that takes place. The pub is often a location earlier in Australian films; and is a great place
to introduce a character s personality, flaws or even entire new characters as alcohol begins to affect

Rose married George Patterson Lathrop. She converted to Roman Catholicism and took over her

changed his from Hathorne to Hawthorne because he did not want to be compared to his family

How Did Bernini Influence Michelangelo
In the fourteenth to fifteenth centuries many influential artists created multiple pieces of art that
were very significant for their period. Michelangelo, Donatello, and Bernini all were key contributors
to this influential movement sweeping through the land at the time. Michelangelo played a major
role in sculptureand architecture in Italy as well as creating many unapparelled affects in the
development of art in the west. Donatello, on the other hand, was a master sculpture who played
influential roles in the Renaissanceera. Finally, Bernini was probably the best architect and sculptor
of his time. Each of these major architects created their own version of a sculpture, David, that had
wide effects throughout their home countries. Donatello... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike the previous two pieces, Bernini could capture his form in a pose that is supposed to be
happening during the fight. The grotesque way Bernini makes his body twist and bends creates an
illusion in our mind that he is about to send the stone flying to deliver the killing blow to Goliath s
forehead. This form of Baroque art creates images in the mind to help us understand what the piece
has or will be doing. Bernini creates a sense of action and drama with this piece with diagonal lines
created throughout the sculpture. Also, unlike the pieces created by Michelangelo and Donatello,
Bernini created his version of David without sculpting him in the nude. This was more of a
widespread form for the time that Bernini created the
Hearsay Evidence Case Study
Assignment 3.1: Rules of Evidence Introduction When entering evidence into court the traditional
rule is that all hearsay evidence is deemed inadmissible. One of the definitions of hearsay
evidence can be explained as evidence of a statement that was made by someone ... testifying at
the hearing ... offered to prove the truth of the matter stated. (as cited by Bartley, 2016). However,
hearsay evidence may be admissible if it is within one of the exceptions to the hearsay rule. Within
the case of R. v. Mapara [2005], the exception was hearing from a co conspirator to confirm
whether or not the accused was a part of a conspiracy. This permits the admission of out of court
statements made by a co conspirator against the accused (Canadian Criminal... Show more content on

An exception for co conspiracy hearsay evidence exists because conspirators are agents of each
other, their acts in the agency are admissible against each other (Canadian Criminal Law
Notebook, 2016). This type of evidence is usually considered circumstantial, which relies on an
inference to be drawn in order to make a conclusion. In order for the Crown to enter in this
evidence they needed to prove three things: 1) there was a conspiracy to commit an offence, 2)
that the accused was member, 3) if the Crown proved their participation beyond a reasonable
doubt (Canadian Criminal Law Notebook, 2016). By having a co conspirator as a witness, their
testimony attested to the accused committing a crime, that they were a member, and their
participation to the offence. With this testimony, the Crown was able to establish circumstantial
indicators of reliability, which can place the accused at the scene, as well as, the accused s men s
rea to commit this offence. The other type of evidence which was admissible was a wiretap.
However, there was speculation on whether, or not this evidence was deemed admissible due to it
being a three way communication where one of the individuals who called the accused was not
allowed to be monitored. On the wiretap, it was confirmed the accused told the victim where to
meet. This helped the Crown establish suspicion that the accused was going to commit this offence.

Aging Population A Growing Challenge
Minarechova, Radka. Aging population a growing challenge. Slovak Spectator 08 Sept. 2014: 12.
Newspaper Source. Web. 18 Nov. 2015.

In this article, Radka Minarechová addresses the growing challenges associated with the fastest
aging population in one of the European Union countries, known as Slovakia. As the elderly
population increased, the productive working age deceased, which caused the country to suffer
greatly based on their involvement in employment, society, independent living and aging prevention.
It becomes clear that the country was not prepared to solve problems dealing with aging. As a result,
it is shown that discrimination towards the elderly by the others within the population is discovered
within specific areas such as health care and employment. With the retirement age at 62, the more
individuals requesting for pensions, the greater the effect on the contribution to the funds necessary
for the benefit of the recipient, especially healthcare. The subject of aging is highly relevant to
Zimmerman s article. The need to improve the aging phases every individual experiences is a serious
issue that can be resolved or reduced. Although Minarechová s argument does not focus directly on
the health concerns dealing with aging, but the author touched the important subject of how it can
affect our population rather than benefit us as a society. Not only is the topic relevant to
Zimmerman s argument but it was written around the same time. Therefore, there is a high
