Holden Caulfield Compromise
Simple Truth and Social Compromise in the Catcher In The Rye

Do people change from their experiences in life? In the book The Catcher In The Rye , by J.D
Salinger, Holden s character changes throughout the book. Going from what Holden was like on the
first few pages to what he is now like towards the end of the book, Holden makes drastic positive
changes to his character throughout numerous situations he encounters in the book. He fixes himself
a responsible persona because of his responses towards these encounters. Examples of such changes
in Holden s maturity throughout the novel include how he stays in the rain instead of going on the
carousel, getting or agreeing to seek treatment for his condition in the end, and how he reacted to the

robbed of their innocence, but he doesn t rub it off because he says if he d have a hundred years
he couldn t wipe off half the Fuck You signs in the world. This shows that Holden is more of a
selfless caring person than he was at the start of the book. If it were up to him everybody else

Good Bye and Good Riddance Pt 4
2nd Corinthians 2:5 11
Here we are the third Sunday in the New Year. We have closed out 2012 and here we stand in 2013.
The start of a New Year is the perfect time for believers that desire to obtain the fullness of God in

So many times we are like the older brother in the story of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11 32). *
Deep down on the inside, the sins of others disgust us to the point that we really don t want them

Analysis of the Translation of the Analects of Confucius
Jpz777 04/29/2013 Order # 2094035 In an authoritative and widely cited translation of the Analects of
Confucius originally published in 1938, celebrated English sinologist Arthur Waley provided the
most comprehensive explication of this enduring contribution to humanistic philosophy, one which
has since been continually reprinted for scholarly study. An anthology of short yet powerful passages
which capture the beliefs taught by Confucius during his lifetime, the Analects offers a fluid
recreation of Confucius and his associated teachings, through the prism provided by the evolving
structure of the school of thought created. Beginning with a sober deconstruction of the
mythologizing which has come to define the Western conception of Confucius, of whom Waley
states it appears from the Analects that he was a private person who trained the sons of gentlemen in
the virtues proper to a member of the ruling class (14), this translation offers modern readers with an
comprehensive and historically accurate interpretation of the Analects, and their influence on the
resulting system of moral mastery known as Confucianism. Spreading slowly but steadily
throughout China after the original texts comprising the Analects was compiled by Confucius pupils
in approximately 300 BCE, the philosophy of social and political ethics espoused in these twenty
books developed into a combination of religious dogma and ruling doctrine. As Waley notes in the

Romanticism And Romanticism
English Assessment task
Question 2:
The Arts are always the forerunners of change in society. Romanticism was a movement that begun
in the late 18th century and expressed how people felt about the Industrial Revolution. The romantics
focused on new concepts of imagination, intuition, inspiration, idealism, and individualism. I will
argue that art really did change the perspective of people in the Romanticism time. Art was used to
get big messages across and tell people what the artists were feeling. Two texts and poems that I
will analyze are London by William Blake and Daffodils by William Wordsworth.

Before Romanticism there was a period called Neo Classicism or the Enlightenment. Neo Classicism
is a movement in the visual arts that began in the 1760s. The events that happened in the romantic
period, was a reaction against the period of Neo Classicism. The Romantics were rejecting the idea
that things have to be perfect, and decisions made based on rational thought.

Romanticism was mainly a protest against the nature of the Enlightenment and the huge changes in
society brought around by the Industrial Revolution. Before romanticism, women and children
worked all the time in terrible conditions to support their family, no one was expressing themselves,
cities became centers of poverty and building new business and factories became more important
over individuality and nature.

The city in the 18th century was a world where children were punished like put to work. Different
personalities weren t respected, young boys were usually chimney sweepers and girls worked in
factories, both in terrible conditions. Childhood was being destroyed by industrial age.

Daffodils by William Wordsworth is a typical poem of the Romantic Movement because it

incorporates the ideas and aspects of romanticism. Such as the emphasis on nature. The world in
1804, this was a time when was William Wordsworth experiencing loneliness, grief, and sadness.
He found peace in nature, and felt closer to God This is a very strong theme of Romanticism.
There are many concepts of imagery in the poem Daffodils. An example is When all at once I saw a
crowd, a host, of golden daffodils

Development Of The Residential School System
I just don t like to talk about it or even think about it. Sometimes when I am by myself, doing
beadwork or something. I stop all the sudden and tears just start coming down
: A quote from Aggie George recalling of her experience in the Lejac Indian Residential School
(Legacy of Hope Foundation, 2001). In the 1880s all the way to the 1990 s roughly 150,000
aboriginal children where removed from their communities and homes to attend the residential
school system set up by the government and operated by the Christian churches (Government of
Canada, 2015). The purpose of these residential schools was to isolate Aboriginal children from their
families and assimilate them into the dominant culture (First Nations Study Program, 2009). As the
history of the residential school system unfolds it becomes evident that the Canadian Government
attempted to eradicate the Aboriginals culture and lifestyle. The residential school system was a
devastating crime against Aboriginal cultures and has had lasting and debilitating effects on their
populations.
The residential schools were a wide spread school system that was established by the Canadian
government and organized by the Christian churches (Government of Canada, 2015). The goal of
these schools was to educate Aboriginal children in Christianity and to adapt them into mainstream
society. The children in these schools were forced to abandon their heritage, and were separated
from their families. The aboriginal school is system was

1.Which of the two routing alternatives would you recommend? Why?

In terms of transportation costs only, the chartered vessel is cheaper. However, when we take into
account cash flows and the value of money, the Baltimore route becomes advantageous. Assume
we use the charter vessel. It should arrive on May 30th and HDT will be paid. However, if trucks are
sent two at a time via Baltimore, the middle pair (#25 and #26) should be finished on about April
16th and arrive at Doha about May 8th, when they will be paid in other words, 22 days earlier than
if they arrived on May 30th on the chartered vessel. HDT pays 8% per year for its money so here is
how to calculate the savings for truck #25 or #26:
($172,000 times .08 times 22) divided by 365 = $829.37
Multiplying $829.37 times 50 yields $41,468.50. When added to the costs of using Chicago

The Tuskegee Syphilis And Unethical Behavior
The medical world has never been black and white. A lot of the medical discovers had multiple
ethical gray areas. Through the questionable testing and nameless patients, doctors were able to get
away with faulty practices. Particularly in America during the 20th century, doctors from the United
States Public Health Services observed the effects of Syphilis, an infectious diseases, on 600 African
Americanmales. This was called the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment. For 40 years the doctors watched
how the disease attacked the human body. Instead of curing the patients the doctors left them
infested. The ethical issue at hand is seen in the actions and in the rituals of the doctors presiding
over this experiment. Ancient philosophers such as Confucius and Aristotle would agree with this
ethical issue. Confucius s role ethicswill show that the doctors were deficient in performing their
roles properly, and Aristotle s virtueethics will show that the doctors are not acting in accordance
with virtue. Therefore, the doctors were acting in an unethical capacity.
The Tuskegee Syphilis trials targeted African American males in an unethical infectious disease
trial. The doctors from the United States Public Health Services believed that different races had
different effects towards diseases. During this time, it was seen that [certain] racial groups were
differentially susceptible to infectious disease . Therefore, the doctors of the Public Health Services
decided to test the effect of
The Ecstatic Relationship Between Buffy And Angel
Buffy and Angel The relationship between Buffy and Angel is ecstatic. The relationship itself
has power, lust, and is fully intriguing. The relationship between Buffy and Angel was doomed
from the start because, Buffy is a vampire slayer and Angel is a vampire. Clearly the two do not
go well, I mean seriously, what kind of combo is Buffy and Angel really? Could they be a couple
like Romeo and Juliet and play a tragic role in language arts, or will they end up like Peter Pan
and Wendy, two people from two total different worlds that try to come together and satay young
together. I personally believe that they have the Peter pan and Wendy relationship because they
re both from two different types of world s themselves. Being a vampire slayer, Buffy isn t really
supposed to be with a vampire at all, but instead she falls for the dashing, yet old vampire, Angel.
Upon meeting him, Buffy falls for him. Lust or Love, nobody has ever been positively clear on
weather not Buffy was in love with Angel, or if she was lusting over the gruesome Angel.... Show

then tragedy strikes. Angel is going through a phase of good versus evil. Will Angel succumb to
the darkness or will he overcome the need to be his old self again? Turns out, Angelus, Angel
demonic side, takes over him, and he struggles to stay sane and on top of the world as he knows it.
Soon Angelus has complete control over Angels body and Buffy has to come a complete decision on

Portugal s Journey to Democracy Essay example
Portugal s journey to democracy started in 1910 by first attempt of the Portuguese people to
establish the country as a democracy. Before 5 October 1910, Portugal was ruled by the principles of
constitutional monarchy. However, a putsch lead by the Portuguese Republican Party established the
First Republic by abolishing the constitutional monarchy regime. The constitutionthat was adopted
inaugurated parliamentary regime with a president as a head of state. Unfortunately, the republican
regime lasted for only 16 years which were exceptionally unstable and disordered; 45 different
cabinets were in power, of which four were dismissed by military coups.
A military dictatorship replaced the republican regime by pledging order and stability, ... Show more

General Antonio de Spinole, the head of the Junao of National Salvation, was declared as the leader
of the new regime. The Junta and the MFA publicly declared that they had no intentions to
revolutionise the country, rather they wanted to create democratic political institutions and allow a
constituent assembly to be elected by a popular vote.
However, there was a significant number of revolutionaries that were advocates of the extreme left
who were dedicated to pursue a Marxist revolution in the country. In 1974 the Communist Party of
Portugal managed to replace both, the president and prime minister with a militant Communist prime
minister and left wing president. The Council of the Revolution was created on 11 March 1975,
which essentially was a body of 20 Communist members of military personnel that intended to
govern the country. The Council began a socialist revolution; land reform was introduced, banks
were nationalized together with insurance companies and main industrial infrastructures.
Nevertheless, the elections for the Constituent Assembly on 25 April 1975 took place anyway and it
was the democratic parties that won. In effect, the Communists ignored the results of the election
and refused to give in. In September they surrounded the Constituent Assembly and demanded its
dismissal. Later on 25 November 1975 the Communists started another putsch
My Experience In My Basketball Game
We lost seven of our first nine basketball games. All we had to do to start winning was lose our
starting guard me to injury. I broke the fourth metacarpel in my left hand just below the ring
finger during Christmas break of my senior year. Of the nine games we played, I started all of
them, and we lost all but two of them. Then, after my injury the team won sixteen of their last
eighteen games. I could have learned many lessons from this experience, such as I should have
given up basketball nine games earlier, or everyone contributes to the team effort some just do it
better from the bench. But, I learned much more than that. Coach Ernst looked a bit surprised
when I showed up dressed out and ready to practice with my bulging left forearm the next day. (In
addition to the fiberglass cast, I wrapped it with a bit of padding and an ace bandage to prevent
any more injuries to teammates.) I realized that he expected that I would sit and watch practices
and still be a part of the team at least in name, but I know he was surprised when I was ready to
still work hard; especially considering I really had little chance to play the rest of the year. I
realized that no one would push me except myself in this situation. So, I practiced hard that day,
and every other day. The only reward was that I knew I was pushing myself as hard as I could, and
by so doing I was also pushing my teammates. Sweating profusely in a cast packaged up in an ace
bandage created a stench that made the
India s Post Colonial Populist Democracy
The recent experience of India s post colonial populist democracy with Moditva (the rise of
Narendra Modi as India s prime minister by mobilizing varied sections of the Indian population:
corporates, media, middle classes, Hindutva activists, a section of Other Backward Classes and
Dalits along with the poor) has fundamentally challenged the liberal conception of democracy. It is
interesting to note that a person widely regarded as anti minorities while ignoring the normative
principle of rule of law when protecting the minorities from majoritarian violence, gets elected by
popular mandate. In this respect, Moditva ( Modified version of Hindutva) might pose possible
threats to India s democratic processes in future.
Moditva is not just a specific political agenda with a personality cult but it can be called as what
Michael Freeden calls a micro ideology . As nationalism is a micro ideology in Freeden s parlance,
Moditva can be also described as a peculiar micro ideology . Previously, Hindutva had shown its
limitations by not ensuring electoral majority for the BJP in the 1990s. In contrast, Moditva has
not only ensured a clear majority for BJP (282 seats) with 10 seats more than the majority mark and
over 60% seats for the National Democratic Alliance (336 seats) but has also got a large proportion
of votes 31% for BJP and over 38% for NDA. Although, the vote share of the BJP led NDA is way
below the 50% mark, in a competitive multiparty democracy with a history of
