ARTISTIC STATEMENT OF

Appropriating Villa

In this artistic endeavor, we embark on a journey of transformation, melding the realms of

literature and film. At the core of our conceptual framework lies appropriation, as we draw
inspiration from Jose Garcia Villa's seminal poems. Utilizing periods instead of commas, in
homage to Villa's distinctive style, we engage with the rich tapestry of Villa's verse, weaving its
essence into our own narrative fabric.

Then, through hybridity, we aim to explore the interplay between language and image, inviting
viewers to contemplate the nuances of a woman’s existence through a new lens.

Central to our framework is the principle of alternative as a guiding force in art, wherein we
reframe Villa's thematic landscape through a feminist perspective. By subverting the original
narratives, we illuminate alternative pathways of understanding, challenging entrenched norms,
and inviting discourse on gender dynamics and power struggles.

Through appropriation, hybridity, and the principle of alternative, our artistic statement seeks to
reimagine Villa's poems in a way that challenges perceptions, provokes thought, evokes emotion,
and inspires dialogue. Hence, through this literature, we invite everyone engage with the
complexities of being a woman.
