Notes: Petroperu’s 95,000 b/d Talara oil refinery has reopened after a week-long shutdown, the state-run oil
company's CEO Alejandro Narvaez said May 12.
The refinery, which had been halted since May 4 after rough seas closed ports, including Petroperu’s Bayovar
terminal on the north coast, is operating “normally and without problems,” Narvaez told reporters in Lima.
The company’s 12,000 b/d Iquitos and 8,000 b/d Conchan refineries are also operating at capacity, Narvaez added.
“We’ve had 20 days of port closures during April,” Narvaez said. “That means we couldn’t load or unload products.
That has a major impact on our business.”
Petroperu, which competes in Peru with Repsol’s 117,000 b/d La Pampilla refinery, has set 2025 production
guidance at Talara at 81,000 b/d, while aiming to cut costs by 38% and boost market share to 35% by end-2025,
according to a company presentation.
At the same time, Petroperu will open bids for a joint venture exploration and production contract for its Block 64
concession on May 15 and for its Block 192 oilfield -- both in the northern jungle Maranon Basin -- at the end of
May, he said. Both blocks are expected to supply crude to Petroperu’s 200,000 b/d North Peruvian Oil Pipeline.
