I. OBJECTIVES
Content Standard The learners demonstrate the understanding of ways of
sorting materials and describing them as solid, liquid, or
gas based on their observable properties
Performance Standard The learners should be able to group common objects
found at home and in school according to solids, liquids
and gas

characteristics (e.g. Shape, Weight, Volume, Ease of

III. PROCEDURES
A. Preparatory Activities Lead the class in singing the song “I Have” to the tune of
“Where Is Thumb Man’, or any song that the pupils can
sing.
“I Have”

I have ballpens*
I have notebooks*
I have books*
I have chalk*
These objects are called solids (2x)
In our room (2x)

* Give names of other objects on the table.
(Like sharpeners, erasers, pencils, coins, etc.)
Say: Now, get some objects from your bags. Repeat the
song “I Have” by naming the objects you are holding.
Ask: 1. What do we call those objects you are holding?
(Ans. They are all solids.)
2. Do they have a definite/exact shape?
(Answer:Yes)

B. Motivation In the next activity, match the objects on the left to the
correct shape on the right.
(Please see Attachment A)

Follow-up questions:
1. What are the objects seen in the chart?
(Ans. watermelon, belt, gift box, orange and
chalkboard)
2. What do you call these objects?
(Ans. Solids)
3. What is the shape of the watermelon? belt?, gift
box? Orange? Chalkboard?
(Ans. watermelon- triangle, belt- round/circle, gift
box-square, orange-oblong, and chalkboard-
rectangle)
C. Activity Divide the class into 3 groups.
Each group will be given a basketful or box of real (10
pieces) solids with different colors. Allot enough time for
each group to observe the solids to tell something about
their shapes.
Group A – School Supplies
Group B – Teacher’s Things
Group C – Solids Things in the Washing Area in the
Classroom
Explain the safety measures in handling objects if ever
they are going to touch them to prevent accidents and
not to get hurt.
Before you perform the task, please read the
safety precautions before, during, and after the
activity.

3. Use the materials with care for the
purpose for which it is intended.
4. Carefully follow the procedures.
Do the following:
1. Each group will list five different solids they see in
their assigned learning stations.
2. Observe the solids and tell something about
them.
3. Present the activity cards to the class.
Ask each group to put each solid in its proper box
labeled as round, oblong, rectangle, square, and triangle
as shown below.

Representatives from each group will take turns to show


the object put in each box, and the class will have to
agree if it is correct or not.

Scoring will be on the chalkboard.

D. Analysis Ask the following questions:


1. Can you name the different solids? What are
these solids?
(Ans. Yes. mirror, plate, coin, funnel, shoebox,
etc.)
2. What different shapes of solids did you observe?
(Ans. Round, square, rectangle and triangle)
3. What characteristics of solids is shown in the
activity?
(Ans. Solids have shapes)
E. Abstraction Discuss further the shapes of the objects.
There are different shapes of solids. Solid has its own
shapes based on its appearance. The molecules of
solids are close together. They move back and forth, but
the particles do not change places. That is why solids do
not change shapes. Solids are grouped if they have the
same shape: round solids, oblong solids, and rectangular
solids.
F. Application Prepare the following materials on the table:
ball, eraser, calamansi, plate, guava, notebook, triangle
(musical instrument)

Instructions:
1. Observe the materials on the table.
2. Write the name of each object below their
corresponding shape.
