Topic: Parts and Wholes Session Name : Lets Master Fraction Operations

Grade: 5

1. Fractions with Same Denominator:

- Add or subtract the numerators.
- Keep the denominator the same.
Example: 3/8 + 2/8 = 5/8
5/6 - 1/6 = 4/6

2. Fractions with Different Denominators:

- Step 1: Find the LCM (Least Common Multiple) of the denominators.
- Step 2: Convert all fractions to have the same denominator.
- Step 3: Add or subtract the numerators.
- Step 4: Simplify if needed.
Example:
1/2 + 1/3 = 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6
5/6 - 1/3 = 5/6 - 2/6 = 3/6

3. Tip:
- Always simplify your final answer if possible.
- Use visual models if you get stuck!

Practice helps! Try problems with 2, 3, or even 4 fractions to build confidence.
