The Monkey and The Crocodile
The Monkey and The Crocodile
of an apple tree. The monkey was alone - he had no friends, no family, but he was happy. The apple tree gave him sweet fruits to eat, and shade from the sun and shelter from the rain. He enjoyed life and was a very contented monkey. Then the monkey saw a hungry crocodile who rest under the apple tree. The crocodile looked very sad and tired. Hello, called the monkey. Hello, replied the crocodile surprised. Do you know where I can get some food? I haven't had anything to eat for these day. 'Well,' said the monkey. I have some fruits in my tree. Would you like to try some? After that he gave some apple to the crocodile. He was so hungry that he ate up all the apples. He enjoyed them very much and asked the monkey whether he could come again for some more fruit. The monkey was generous and he happily agreed to give apples to his new friend, the crocodile. Then the crocodile thanked to the monkey and swam away. The next day, the crocodile visited the monkey again. He wanted more apples then the monkey gave him a few apples which he enjoyed eating. Soon the crocodile visited the monkey everyday. The two became very good friends. They discussed their lives, their friends and family. The crocodile told the monkey that he had a wife and that they lived on the other side of the river. So the kind and generous monkey said, 'Please take some of the apples for her as well when you go back today.' The crocodile thanked him and took some of the fruit for his wife. The crocodile's wife loved the mangoes and made her husband promise to get her some every day. Meanwhile, the friendship between the monkey and the crocodile became stronger. One day at the crocodiles home, the crocodile gave some apples to his wife. She ate the delicious apples and her mouth watered at the thought of the apples. She thought if the apples tasted so good, how much better would the monkey taste, after eating the yummy apples regularly. She asked her husband to invite the monkey for lunch , and then we can eat him up she said happily. When the crocodile would not agree to eat the monkey, she pretended to fall very sick. 'Only a monkey's heart can cure me', she wailed to her husband. 'If you love me, you must bring the monkeys heart for me.'
The crocodile was terrified and became very sad. On the one hand, he loved his wife very dearly and on the other, he cared very much for his friend. The love for his wife won finally. In the afternoon he went to the apple tree. O dear friend', he called the monkey. My wife invite you come to us for lunch. She is grateful for all the fruit that you have sent her, and ask that I bring you home with me. The monkey was accept that invitation, but said he could not possibly go because he didnt know how to swim. Don't worry about that, said the crocodile. I'll carry you on my back. The monkey agreed and jumped into the crocodile's back. In the middle of the river when they were far away from the apples tree, the crocodile said My wife is very ill. The only thing that will cure her is a monkey's heart. So, dear friend, this will be the end of our friendship. The monkey was horrified. What could he do to save himself? He thought quickly and talked a lie. Dear friend, I am very sorry to hear of your wife's illness and I am glad that I will be able to help her. But I have left my heart behind on the apple tree. Do you think we could go back so that I can bring it for your wife? The crocodile believed the monkey. He turned and swam quickly to the apple tree. The monkey ran away into the safety of his tree. False and foolish friend, he called. Don't you know that we carry our hearts within us? I will never trust you again or ever give you fruit from my tree. Go away and don't come back again. Finally he had lost a friend and a supply of good sweet fruit. The monkey had saved himself because he had thought quickly. He realised that a monkey and a crocodile could never be true friends.
