WHAT IS
SEX INCLUDES:

Sex is a natural distinguishing HORMONES


variable based on biological CHROMOSOMES
(e.g., estrogen,
characteristics of being a woman (e.g.,XX,XY)
testosterone)
or man. It refas to physical
attributes pertaining to a person's
body contours, features, genitals,
hormones, genes, chromosomes REPRODUCTVE SECONDARY SEXUAL
and reproductive organs. Sex ORGANS CHARACTERISTICS
differences between women and (e.g.,ovaries and (e.g facial hair, breast
testes) development)
men are natural.
GENDER
Gender, on the other hand, refers to the socially
differentiated roles, characteristics and
expectations attributed by culture to women and
men. It is created, produced, reproduced and Gende identity
maintained by social institutions. It is a set of Gender expression
characteristics that identifies the social behavior
of women and men and the relationships Sexual orientation
between them. Gender roles and attributes are
not natural nor biologically given (Santos, et al,
1999).
GENDER IDENTITY
Gender identity is a person's deeply felt internal and individual experience of gender, which may or
may not correspond with the sex assigned at birth. Gender identity exists on a spectrum, so it is not
necessarily linked to a single gender. And it can be fluid, evolving over the course of a person's life.

GENDER EXPRESSION
Gender expression is the way in which a person outwardly presents their gender identity. It is
manifested in the way a person chooses to dress, speak or conduct themselves socially. A person's
gender expression is distinct from, and not necessarily linked to, their sex assigned at birth, gender
identity or sexual orientation.

SEXUAL ORIENTATION
Sexual orientation is a person's physical, romantic, and/or sexual attraction (or lack of it) to other
people. (e.g heterosexual, homosexual, lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual)
SEX VS. GENDER
sex and gender can be differentiated as;

psychological, emotional, social, and cultural factors, and varies widely
across different societies and historical periods. This multifaceted concept
includes aspects such as sexual orientation, gender identity, sexual
behaviors, erotic desires, and intimate relationships.
