APPLICATION FORM FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW

ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES

Please use this format in preparing the application. Written approval of NUC is
required before establishment of a new academic programme. Note also that a
separate form should be completed for each proposed programme whether or not
it is intended to establish them in the same department. It is suggested that the
university collect and complete an e-copy of the form from NUC.

SECTION 2: MISSION OF THE UNIVERSITY

The Vision, Mission and Strategic goals of the University are contained in the first Kogi
State University Strategic Plan 2011-2015. The vision statement has been re-defined to
include a global appeal as "Kogi State University shall be a highly reputable institution
genuinely committed to imparting knowledge, learning, scholarship and skills to all men

and women in order to equip them to confront and control the challenges of the next
centuries". The aspiration is to:
i. Maintain and sustain the university as an apex institution through accountable,
consultative, focused, interactive, innovative, purposeful, team-based, result-
oriented and transparent leadership and management to constantly utilize existing
knowledge and generate new one;
ii. Use first class and state-of-the-art facilities, highly motivated staff and students
working in an atmosphere of academic freedom and security to transform the
University into a world class centre;
iii. Ensure a high standard of academic excellence, discipline, integrity and
intellectual heritage and
iv. Reflect and impact positively on the culture, traditions and the socio-economic
needs of the society.

MISSION
Kogi State University shall advance appropriate and effective learning and explore new
frontiers of knowledge. This shall be achieved through:
i. Effective teaching, research and dissemination of research-based knowledge
which shall be of the highest standard;
ii. Regular strategic planning, needs assessment and re-training to produce high
quality manpower and sustained capacity building;
iii. Consolidating the achievements so far recorded by constant evaluation and
monitoring;
iv. Consolidating and expanding postgraduate programmes which shall be of the
highest quality with emphasis on staff development to ensure continuity as well as
serving the needs for the academia;
v. Aggressive and focused expansion by creating new centres and programmes to
meet the needs and aspirations of the changing society;
vi. Establishing and nurturing local, nation and international partnerships and the
integration and
vii. Serving as a positive model and conscience of the society and for the society.

SECTION 3: PHILOSOPHY

The Executive Post graduate Diploma Agri-Business programme has been developed to
apply basic business management principles to the producing operations of large scale
farms, the manufacture and distribution of farm equipment and supplies, and the
processing, storage, and distribution of farm commodities.

bounds of the mission of the university.
AIM: Give Students an insight into the processes of agricultural
production and supply chain, from raw production to reaching the
consumer. As well as equip students for managerial positions in
agribusiness
Objectives:
help learners understanding agribusiness economics, as well as identify future trends and
potential issues within the industry to ensure a competitive business.

Gain in-depth knowledge of agribusiness industries, including livestock and crop sectors,
health and safety, and sustainable practises.

Learn about policy and regulatory requirements and impacts, and undertake research into
topics of special interest.

interpersonal and problem solving skills) to become leader in agribusiness sector.
