INTRODUCTION
Since the spread of the Coronavirus or COVID-19 in December 2019 in China, all of the
business region foundations and strict organizations held meeting that involved web-based
meeting stages for manageable exercises, one of them was picking up educational exercises. This
is referred to as a distance learning. Until to this point, the instructing and learning processes are
completed by carrying out the online learning. Electronic learning (E-Learning) is viewed as the
most suitable technique and method for managing the educational and learning process.
Presently, practically all organizations are holding online meeting because of the lockdown
During the COVID pandemic in Indonesia, the phases of E-learning recommended by the
public authorities were the Learning House stage, made by the Indonesian Ministry of Education
and Culture, and SPAD, made by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education
for PT. Numerous online-based applications are utilized in the teaching and learning process.
The utilization of web-based learning-based applications is viewed as the most fitting method for
livening up close and personal meeting. Specific learning resources for instructors and
understudies. The Ministry of Education and Culture works together with a few online learning
applications, like Sekolahmu, MejaKita, Ganeca Digital, Smart Class, Ruang Guru, Quipper
School, Cisco Webex, Zenius, and Google Classroom. While France-Presse stated that some
platform options that can be used are Facebook, Google Meet, Zoom, Skype, etc. (Hastomo &
Zulianti, 2021) states that one of the most common video conference applications that are used in
online learning is Google Meet. Google Meet is one of the most commonly used video
Google Meet is a helpful video service to communicate. The interface provided by Google
Meet allows users to meet face to face directly and effectively, but it is also very portable and
fast. Management is not difficult and can be used for many participants. This application has
been regularly used to teach online classes in order to minimize the number of offline classes.
Google Meet is a platform that allows students to learn while dealing with the pandemic.
Online learning has advantages and disadvantages for both teachers and students during the
pandemic. As a result, teachers and students must adapt to using Google Meet or other
conference applications as online teaching material in the classroom. However, not all teachers
and students are able to immediately adapt to diverse online media or platforms, as online
Regarding this, students have their own perceptions of the online learning system which is
considered a new system for them. Especially in English Language Teaching. As mentioned in
the previous study, the online learning system is different from traditional learning (Rifiyanti,
2020). It is mean that in online learning, learners and teachers do not meet with each other
directly.
Perception is the object, occurrence, and relationship experience acquired by resuming and
that includes focus, hope, motivation, and memory when resuming information and predicting
messages. Likewise in English Learning. Students' perception of online learning in this case is
very necessary. Because it concerns whether or not they take classes effectively and involves
student learning motivation. This student perception will later become a benchmark for how
Previous research has been discussed regarding the perception of using online learning
tools for English subjects such as online blogging, via Facebook, Whatsapp, Edmodo, and other
social media. And all of them have a positive vibe to them. Then, in this research, the researcher
want to know the result, describe it, and conclude it in this library research.
The current review will then be beneficial for researchers who are interested in English
teacher preparation programs, especially in EFL context. The purpose of the present review is to
1. What are the most important findings from studies on students' perceptions of online
learning in English?
3. What implications do the studies have for future research in the field?
4. What are the implications of the studies for Indonesian academic contexts?
METHDOLOGY
Initially, the criteria for searching in the field of students' perceptions of online learning
in English learning were simple key words like "students' perceptions of online learning,"
"online learning," and "students' perceptions of online learning." The search only generated a few
results, none of which were really relevant. It was then expanded by combining keywords like
"in learning English" with "student perception." The Google Scholar, Academia, and Research
Gate websites generated lots of results. Due to the impossibility of analyzing lots of articles, the
search strategy was modified. Furthermore, one of our goals was to explore students' perceptions
of online learning in the context of learning English material. In learning English in developing
countries, such as Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan, we eliminated subjects relevant to students'
perceptions of learning.
We search publications and papers from databases such as Google Scholar, Academia, and
Research Gets after narrowing the scope of the required analysis. We use phrases like "students'
perceptions of online learning." We limited our research to only publishing empirical research
articles in journals. We excluded dissertations, book chapters, books, online pages, reports, and
conference proceedings from the current analysis. This was in keeping with the goal of the study,
which was to identify gaps in the existing research literature in English teacher education
programs in EFL settings. I did not limit the time span of the publication in order to obtain a
diverse set of results. Utilizing relevant electronic databases and examining the lists of references
From searching the journal databases, I found around twenty empirical studies containing
the terms English Learning in the articles. This included the perception students to online
learning in English learning. However, after manually sorting the articles, I selected 15 articles
that are relevant for the current analysis. Articles and papers are selected carefully. Not all of
them relate thoroughly to the related research topic. However, these selected papers and articles
are very helpful in collecting data from the topics you are looking for.
To answer the questions above, the selected studies were analyzed using a topic table (grid
template) by separating some of the findings in their research including the topic investigated,
research objectives, research sample, methodology, and research findings. In this case, the
After reviewing and reading previous research in several journals and articles related to
students' perceptions of online learning in English learning, we grouped several important points

Based on the findings that we summarize in the table, many of the previous researchers used
questionnaires, survey contents, and interviews as instruments for collecting data and a
descriptive approach in the study. The result reveals many positive about their perception of
learning English. Positive responses from students indicate that online learning is effective in
learning English. This positive perception is evidenced by the findings supported by valid and
been carried out, in this case, is an empirical study. Where the researcher goes directly to
research by using students as participants and research subjects. So that the data is taken directly
The implication of this research for future research is that it can be a reference for
researchers who will contribute to this topic. And in the academic context, this research can be
used as a reference for making decisions and acting in ELT, especially in online learning in the
future.
CONCLUSION
The spread of COVID-19, which is still a problem in various fields, especially in EFL,
means we need an appropriate learning medium to teach during the pandemic. The findings of
current studies provide insight and information on the use of online learning as a learning
medium during the pandemic. These findings show that positive responses from students indicate
that online learning is effective in learning English. Previous studies provide valid data which
also states that online learning is effective in learning English. The students who took part in the
questionnaire and interviews in previous studies showed that online learning is effective as a
learning medium during a pandemic. The use of online learning is expected to reduce the spread
