General Instructions:
Section A
1. Which metal is displaced when lead is put in the solution of copper chloride? [1]
c) Lead d) Chlorine
2. Metal X is found in earth’s crust. This metal forms a reddish brown substance when exposed to moist air. When [1]
a blue coloured solution Y is stored in a container made of X, the solution turns green and a reddish brown metal
Z gets deposited on the container. X, Y and Z are respectively
a) 1

22. A brown substance X on heating in air forms a substance Y. When hydrogen gas is passed over heated Y, it again [3]
changes back into X. Name the substances X and Y.
23. A magnesium ribbon is burnt in oxygen to give a white compound X accompanied by emission of light. If the [3]
burning ribbon is now placed in an atmosphere of nitrogen, it continues to burn and forms a compound Y.
(i) Write the chemical formulae of X and Y.
(ii) Write the balanced chemical equation when X is dissolved in water.
Section D
24. Read the following text carefully and answer the questions that follow: [4]
In a balanced chemical reaction, equal number of atoms are present on both sides of reaction. A balanced
chemical reaction is based on law of conservation of mass which means that total mass of reactants and products
participating in a reaction must be equal. For example, a balanced chemical equation of burning of magnesium
in oxygen to form magnesium oxide is written as:
2Mg + O2 ⟶ 2MgO
The mass of reactants (2 × 24 + 32 = 80) is equal to the mass of products [2 × (24 + 16) = 80].
i. In a reaction, 35 g of reactant, PQ breaks down into 20 g of product, P and an unknown amount of product,
Q. Find the amount of product Q. (1)
ii. The solid mercury (II) oxide is heated, and liquid mercury and oxygen gas are produced. Mention balanced
chemical reaction. (1)
iii. Which laws are satisfied by a balanced chemical equation? (2)
OR
In the given chemical reaction, (2)
2C6H6(l) + 15O2(g) ⟶ mCO2(g) + nH2O(l)

OR
Which elements displace aluminum from its salt? (2)
Section E
26. When the solution of substance A is added to a solution of potassium iodide, then a yellow solid separates out [5]
from the solution.
i. What do you think substance A would be?
ii. Name the yellow substance which separates out.
iii. Write the characteristic of chemical reactions which is illustrated by this example.
iv. Write a balanced chemical equation for the reaction which takes place. Mention the physical states of all the
reactants and products involved in the chemical equation.
27. A metal X forms a salt XSO4. The salt XSO4 forms a clear solution in water which reacts with sodium [5]
hydroxide solution to form a blue precipitate Y. Metal X is used in making electric wires and alloys like brass.
i. What do you think metal X could be?
ii. Write the name, formula and colour of salt XSO4.
iii. What is the blue precipitate Y?
iv. Write a chemical equation of the reaction which takes place when salt XSO4 reacts with sodium hydroxide
solution. Give the state symbols of all the reactants and products which occur in the above equation.
