User Manual for Philips DVDR615 Player Software Upgrade Introduction

This software can be used to upgrade the following Philips DVD Recorder :

DVDR615/37, DVDR615/78, DVDR615/BK


After you have completed the upgrade procedure, your DVD Recorder will typically perform better. What improvements are made depends on the upgrade software youre using as well as the software that your DVD Recorder contained before the upgrade.

Tools Required
You will need the following items : a personal computer a CD-R/RW drive and writing application software a blank CD-R

How to download the software to your computer


1. Right mouse button click on the file and click Save Target As to save the files into your PC. Unzip the .zip file and extract files into your PC.

Note : Please do not rename the original filename How to make an upgrade disc
Write the downloaded file onto a blank CD-R , using the following settings : File System CD-ROM ISO Level 2 Mode 1/2/XA Character set ISO 9660 Finalised, single session Write speed slow

Finalised the disc. (The application may do this automatically.)

NOTE : Packet writing application for drag & drop copying cannot be used for creating an upgrade disc. Use only a dedicated CD writing application allowing disc at once recording. No UDF setting as well.

DVDR615 Software Upgrade Procedure


Note: Do not press any button and unplug the mains during upgrade.
1. 2. 3. 4. Connect the mains cord to the wall socket. Press STANDBY-ON button on the front-panel or POWER button on the remote control to activate the player. Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the disc tray.

Insert the upgrade CD-ROM disc, label side up. Press OPEN/CLOSE to close the disc tray.

Player display will show : Reading Busy Verify Disc, Sys Version Verify CO, Verify BE, Verify DL, Philips, Startup, Download CO, Dwl Done, Startup tray will open Take Disc This stage of the procedure takes about 4 - 5 minutes.

The DVD-player will function as per normal.

After the upgrade


Do confirm the software version by checking the system version. Please follow the procedure described in the section Before you upgrade .

Software Upgrade History Release date : August 1, 2005 Software version : FF9.53 [1] Title/Chapter OSD is displayed after new chapter/title is reached and not removed. This has been fixed in this software. [2] Progressive Scan in Portuguese OSD is updated.
