HONEYWELL PRODUCT SUPPORT

The Honeywell SPEX program for corporate operators supplies an extensive exchange and rental service that complements a worldwide network of support centers. An inventory of more than 9,000 spare components assures that the Honeywell equipped aircraft will be returned to service promptly and economically. This service is available both during and after warranty. The aircraft owner/operator is required to ensure that units supplied through this program have been approved in accordance with their specific maintenance requirements. All articles are returned to Reconditioned Specifications limits when they are processed through a Honeywell repair facility. All articles are inspected by quality control personnel to verify proper workmanship and conformity to Type Design and to certify that the article meets all controlling documentation. Reconditioned Specification criteria are on file at Honeywell facilities and are available for review. All exchange units are updated with the latest performance reliability MODs on an attrition basis while in the repair cycle. System Description

INTRODUCTION
The following paragraphs describe the system components and function.

PRIMUS ELITE DU-885

The Primus Elite DU--885 is an 8.8 x 8.8 liquid crystal display (LCD). The DU--885 LCD replaces the existing DU--880 CRT. The DU--885 LCD features processing performance improvements in the displays that facilitate the execution of enhanced flight applications. The LCD unit, shown in Figure 2--1, is the primary medium for providing flight, navigation, engine, aircraft systems, and caution/warning related information to the flight crew. The system comes with 6 DU LRUs. The pilot and copilot each have a primary flight display (PFD) and navigation display (ND). There are also two EICAS displays in the Gulfstream GIV and GV aircraft.

The Primus Elite DU is a smart display that contains autonomous processing capability and is directly connected to the avionics standard communication bus (ASCB). Multiple units are used in the aircraft to display the required information and to provide sufficient redundancy.

Operational Description
The Primus Elite DU operates two types of applications for the flight crew:
D D

Legacy display applications Enhanced display applications.

Legacy display applications consist of interpreting the data stream from the symbol generator to display the existing formats. Enhanced display contains the following new applications:
D

Charts -- Shows approach charts, airport maps, standard instrument departures (SIDs), standard terminal arrival routes (STARs) and noise abatement procedures Maps -- Shows the FMS moving map over geopolitical boundaries augmented with navigational aides and uplinked graphical weather Video -- Shows multiple video inputs on the MFD Database configuration -- Shows database status and gives the user the ability to upload data for charts and maps DU maintenance -- Shows part numbers.

D D

The conditions that result in the Primus Elite DU reverting from the enhanced mode to the legacy ND mode are: 1. DU is reverted to PFD 2. DU is reverted to EICAS or systems display 3. Checklist display is selected on the DC--884 display controller 4. EGPWS pop--up 5. TCAS pop--up 6. EGPWS selection on DC--884

The data list scroll bar is used to display and control the portion of a data list field currently visible in a window. In addition, the scroll knob can be used to scroll the list when the list extends beyond the viewable listed area. When a data list scroll bar is located on a window, the scroll bar is active when the cursor is placed on the up or down arrow located above and below the scroll bar. A scroll knob active symbol is displayed above the scroll bar. This symbol indicates the pilot can scroll through the list by turning the scroll knob on the CCD. Each click of the scroll knob scrolls through one item at a time on the list. An inactive scroll bar is highlighted in gray. A scroll bar is not displayed when the data does not exceed the displayed field.

Zooming
When a chart is initially displayed on the ND in the profile view, the chart is fit to width. When a chart is initially displayed on the ND in the landscape view, the chart is fit to height. The zoom function permits the pilot to enlarge or reduce the apparent viewing distance from the chart. The scroll knob on the CCD is used to control the zoom function. The chart is enlarged or reduced in size around the center of the display window. Each click of the scroll knob enlarges or reduces the chart by 25%. Zooming the chart from the initial size to the maximum size takes eight clicks on the scroll knob.

Regardless of the service paid for, all subscribers receive the same data. Jeppesen supplies serial numbers to control the chart data subscribers access. The serial number is encrypted by the chart function and used to determine whether the requested data is within the region of chart coverage for the subscriber. Subscriptions can consist of the world, countries, regions within countries, states, or provinces. When the serial number is first issued, the number may not exist within the database. In this case, the subscriber is issued coverage codes. The coverage codes permit temporary access to the subscribed chart data. When a subscriber requires additional or changed coverage, coverage codes permit temporary access to any additional data. Coverage codes change with each revision period of chart data. The coverage codes are only valid to access the data for the issued revision period. The following is a list of subscription scenarios:
D D D D

New subscriber with access codes Regular subscriber with a serial number Regular subscriber with a serial number and access codes for enlarged chart coverage Invalid input for access code or serial number. There can be duplicate airports when multiple codes exist for a given serial number.

NOTE:

The serial number and access codes entered determine the coverage received. The serial number and access codes are entered by use of the virtual keyboard at the bottom of the REVISION INFO window. Initiating the validation of the serial number or access code entered in the scratchpad is done by highlighting the Enter button on the virtual keyboard and pushing the ENTER button on the CCD. The serial number is located underneath the Serial Number label. A serial number is 16 characters in length. When the scratchpad entry is the same as the serial number already listed under the Serial Number label, the scratchpad is cleared. When the scratchpad entry is a valid serial number entry, the serial number is listed under the Serial Number label and the scratchpad is cleared. When a valid serial number is not entered, 16 amber dashes are displayed ( - -- -- -- -- -- -- -- - ) in place of the valid serial number. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -When a serial number is displayed under the Serial Number label and 16 or more zeros are entered in the scratchpad, the serial number is replaced with 16 amber dashes. When an invalid 16--character serial number is entered in the scratchpad, an Invalid Serial Number message is displayed in the scratchpad window.

An access code is 10 characters in length. When the scratchpad entry is the same as an access code already listed under the Valid Access Code label, or Valid Access Codes list window, the message Duplicate Access Code is displayed in the scratchpad. When the scratchpad entry is a valid entry, the access code is listed under the Valid Access Code label and the scratchpad is cleared. When an invalid 10--character access code is entered in the scratchpad, the message Invalid Access Code is displayed in the scratchpad. To the right of the serial number is the Valid Access Codes label. A list of all valid access codes are located underneath the Valid Access Codes label. When more than three access codes are listed, a scroll bar is displayed. When a validated serial number exists and access codes are displayed in the access code list window, the data coverage is the combined coverage of the serial number and the access codes. When an invalid entry is entered in the scratchpad not 10 or 16 characters in length, an Invalid Entry message is displayed in the scratchpad. Any scratchpad message is cleared by selecting any key on the virtual keyboard, including the Enter button. Selecting the Enter , Clear , or Back button restores the previous scratchpad contents, after a scratchpad message is cleared. The Aprt , SID , STAR , Appr , Noise , NOTAM , and Airsp tabs are selectable based on the availability of charts or data for the respective tab and airport. When the tab is available for selection, the text on the button is white. When the tab is not available for selection, the text on the button is gray. When the origin, destination, or alternate airport is initially selected or read from the FMS, the Aprt tab is the current tab selected. On initialization, and before any manual selection of airports or charts occur, the chart or data for the SID , STAR , and Appr tabs selections are selected automatically for the origin, destination, and alternate airports from the loaded FMS flight plan. This is known as FMS linked charts. The chart or data for the other tab selections are manually selected by the pilot. The display logic for the FMS linked charts is listed in Table 4--2. Figure 4-10 Flow Chart for Chart Selection

NOTES:

1. The chart function monitors the FMS for updates. When changes are made to the FMS, any FMS linked data (including the airport dropdown menu) is updated to reflect the change. Only the charts selected by the FMS linking are updated. Manually selected charts are not changed. 2. If the chart fails the cyclic redundancy check (CRC), or when there are problems linking to the FMS database, the chart cannot be displayed or has to be manually selected.

To prevent losing the chart currently being displayed when the FMS momentarily drops the active flight plan, the chart function latches on to the last defined origin, destination, and alternate destination airports read from the FMS.

MANUALLY SELECTING A CHART On initial selection of a tab bar button, the cursor defaults to the first FMS--linked chart, when one is available. On initial selection of a tab bar button, and no FMS--linked charts are available, the cursor defaults to the first chart on the display list. When a chart not linked to the FMS is selected from the charts dropdown menu list, the chart becomes the default chart for that tab. The chart title of the default chart is highlighted and ready for selection until another chart is selected. After a manually selected non--FMS linked chart is selected as the default chart, the FMS linked chart becomes the default chart again when the FMS linked chart is manually selected from under the FMS header label. When an FMS linked chart is selected, the chart is periodically updated. DISPLAYING CHART NAMES AND INDICES Before a chart name and index can be displayed, the effectivity for the chart must be determined. Charts fall under three categories:
D D D

Effective Future effective Past effective.

The name and index for all charts (effective, future effective, and past effective) for the airport and tab selected are available for selection on the menu display list under the Available Charts header. When any of the charts from the menu list, whether displayed or not, have a future effective date or are outdated, the Charts Effective header is displayed. When the chart menu list does not contain any future effective or outdated charts, the Charts Effective header is removed and the charts listed under the Available Charts header can extend to the bottom of the display. When a chart is deleted or replaced for the revision cycle, the chart remains accessible by means of adding the chart to the bottom of the future effective list. When the outdated chart names are displayed, the Charts Effective header is changed to the *** Charts may be outdated *** header.

Database Loading Procedure

INTRODUCTION
The following describes the steps necessary to update the database files using the DL--1000 dataloader.

LOADING DATA USING THE DL-1000

The DL--1000, shown in Figure 9--1, loads FMS databases (NAVDB, ACDB, Custom DB) and databases for charts and maps features associated with the Primus Elite display system.

Figure 9-1 Dataloader DL-1000 The DL--1000 transfers data files between removable media such as secure digital (SD) cards or universal serial bus (USB) flash drives and line replaceable units (LRUs), including up to three FMSs and up to six display units (DUs).

NOTE:

The USB flash drive must be an USB 2.0 and 1 GB or larger.

Components
The DL--1000 incorporates a sliding dust cover that protects the secure digital (SD) / flash drive connectors. When the dust cover is moved to the right, the SD card connector is revealed.
D200901000036 REV 2 May 2011 Database Loading Procedure 9-1

When the dust cover is moved to the left, the flash drive connector is revealed.

The POWER button is an alternate action button that turns the dataloader ON or OFF. Power is ON in the inner position and OFF in the outer position. The SELECT button is an alternate action button that permits the flight crew to choose which FMS is enabled for downloading. The power sequence is complete and is indicated by a solid green light. Wait at least 15 seconds after the LAN indicator turns solid green before inserting the flash drive (USB 2.0, 1 GB or larger) or SD card into the DL--1000. Three green lights indicate which FMS is in use. Each push of the SELECT button lights a different FMS indicator. The LEFT indicator represents the pilots FMS, the RIGHT indicator represents the copilots FMS, and the AUX indicator represents a third FMS option. The FMS select indicators sequentially flash in the order of LEFT to AUX to RIGHT when the data transferring process is active.

Loading Data for Charts and Maps

When using the DL--1000, the Honeywell preprocessor tool (installed on a PC) must be used to preprocess the databases from the red CD/blue CD or via the Internet. Once the database is preprocessed onto the SD card or flash drive (USB 2.0, 1 GB or larger), the database is able to be uploaded using the DL--1000. PREPROCESSING THE DATA The following steps describe how to preprocess the database files. 1. Open the Honeywell preprocessor tool CD installed on the PC.
Database Loading Procedure 9-2 D200901000036 REV 2 May 2011

2. From the Select Load Type dropdown menu, shown in Figure 9--2, select the type of data to be uploaded. The options are, Blue, Red, Video, and Symbols. For this example, Blue is selected for the blue CD. Once blue is selected, Blue is also shown next to the Load Type field under Comment 3 to confirm selection of the Load Type.

Figure 9-2 Preprocessor Tool 3. Left--click the Select SOURCE Directory button to select the data to be preprocessed. A Browse For Folder window opens, as shown in Figure 9--3.

4. The source directory is selected by locating the data to be used. In this example, shown in Figure 9--4, D:\EPIC1008\ is displayed next to the Source field to confirm selection of the source directory. NOTES: 1. When the source data for the Blue CD is downloaded from the Internet, the folder that contains the title EPICXXYY. (where XX is the year and YY is the issue number) must be selected. When the source data for the Red CD is downloaded from the Internet, the folder that contains the title INAV-8M must be selected. For more information about downloading and unzipping files from the Internet, see the Downloading Database Files From the INDS Website section. 2. As an alternative to preprocessing data directly from the CD, the contents of the CD can be copied from the CD and placed on the hard drive. When copying the data to the hard drive, creating a folder on the hard drive with the same name as the CD is recommended. In this example, EPIC1008 is used and is the source folder. After the folder is created, copy the entire CD contents into the folder. The location of the copied CD contents is in the Browse For Folder window. 5. Left--click the Select DESTINATION directory to select where the preprocessed data is being sent (either a flash drive or an SD card). In this example, a flash drive (which is the F drive) is used and is selected. F:\ is displayed next to Destination to confirm the destination of the flash drive, as shown in Figure 9--4.

Figure 9-4 Select SOURCE Directory and DESTINATION

6. When loading data from both the Blue and Red CDs at the same time from the same flash drive or SD card, the Append to Destination checkbox must be selected after preprocessing the first CD and before preprocessing the second CD. Selecting the checkbox appends the data of the second CD to the end of the data from the first CD on the memory stick. When the checkbox is not selected, only the most recent preprocessed data on the memory stick is loadable. Three comment fields are under the Preprocessing Parameters header. The information typed in these fields is for user information only and makes no difference what is typed. The information typed in Comment 1 field is displayed under the Part Numbers field on the Data Loading page. The information typed in the Comment 2 and 3 fields is displayed under the Description field on the Data Loading page. 7. Left--click the Preprocess button to preprocess the data. After the preprocessing of the database is complete, a Copy Complete message is displayed, shown in Figure 9--5.

Figure 9-5 Copy Complete 8. Left--click the OK button to close the Copy Complete window. 9. Selecting X in the upper--right corner of the window closes the Preprocessor tool window.
