Actional Application Developments robust features include load testing, flow mapping, root-cause analysis and design-time policy validation. This truly collaborative platform enables architects, developers, testers, business analysts to work together to drive quality, trust, and confidence throughout the service lifecyclefrom development to application support, and beyond. To deliver lower IT costs, greater revenues, and business agility, service-based applications must execute business transactions successfully. Pre-production is the best time to identify and address reliability, integration, performance, and scalability issuesbefore they are "baked into" the software and released into the runtime environment. Actional Application Development offers the tools your pre-production teams need to resolve quality and performance issues quickly. This is achieved with: A collaborative platform for sharing quality-related assets, test results and policy enforcement rules Fast and easy testing of performance, regression, and compliance without a deep knowledge of XML Load testing early and often during development to ensure performance and scalability later in production
Expanded Features
Version 8.2.1 Features: Savvion plugins: Updates to the Savvion Create Instance Plugin Savvion plugins: Updates to the Savvion Complete Workstep Plugin
Interception Platforms: JBoss Application Server Interceptor: The jBoss Application Server interceptor has been enhanced in this release to add visibility into applications running on jBoss Application Server version 4.2.1.
Version 8.2 Expanded Features: Clustering: A new clustering framework was added in Actional Management Server, Actional Agent, and Actional Intermediary to synchronize configurations across cluster members and consistently ensure that cluster members are identical copies of each other at all times. Multi-threaded Provisioning: The expansion of the provisioning model to use a multi-threaded approach provides increased stability during the provisioning cycle. Environments with a large number of agents will experience increased performance in the time for completion of the provisioning process. Statistic Rollup Improvements: The processing of statistic aggregation has been optimized resulting in significant improvements in the rollup of hourly information in the gather cycle when using an Oracle database. DataDirect Driver Updates: DataDirect JDBC drivers have been upgraded to enable support for Windows Authentication (NTLM) for MS SQL Server and Oracle. Application Server Support: Support for deploying Actional in jBoss Application Server has been extended in this release to include versions 4.2.3 and 5.1.
Interception Platforms: JBoss ESB Interceptor: New in this release is the jBoss ESB interceptor that provides visibility into jBoss ESB applications. webMethods Integration Server Broker Java Client: Also new in this release is the webMethods Integration Server Broker Java Client interceptor that provides visibility into the webMethods Integration Server Broker Java Client API. Apache HttpClient: The existing Jakarta Commons HttpClient interceptor has been enhanced in this release to provide support for Apache HttpClient version 4.0.1, which is the successor of and replacement for Jakarta Commons HttpClient 3.x. Apache CXF Interceptor: Further enhancements have been made to the CXF interceptor introduced in the 8.1.4 release to certify it against other versions of CXF and to add visibility for CXF applications running on a variety of application servers including Websphere Application Server, Tomcat and BEA Weblogic Server. In addition, support has been added to: capture response payload provide support for the HTTP/S transport handle SOAP Faults correlate all downstream JMS and JDBC calls from the CXF service
Axis Interceptor: The Axis2 visibility introduced in the 8.1.4 release has been further enhanced in this release to add support for all of the application servers supported by the Axis interceptor. In addition, support has been added for reporting events for asynchronous invocations. BEA Weblogic Interceptor: The existing interceptor support for BEA Weblogic Server has been enhanced in this release to add visibility into applications running on BEA Weblogic 8.1 SP6.
JBoss Application Server Interceptor: The jBoss Application Server interceptor has been enhanced in this release to add visibility into applications running on jBoss Application Server versions 5.1 and 4.2.3. Spring-WS WebService Interceptor: The existing interceptor support for Spring-WS has been enhanced in this release to add support for Websphere Application Server 7.0. Savvion Interceptor: The Savvion interceptor added in the 8.1.3 release has been enhanced in this release to add visibility into managed and unmanaged adapters. In addition, support has been added to capture payloads on unmanaged adapters within a subprocess along with support for deploying the Savvion Interceptor on jBoss Application Server. WebMethods Mediator: The existing interceptor support for webMethods Mediator has been enhanced in this release to handle Load Balancing HTTP headers and to provide the ability for it to be used as a security gateway enforcing security policies and generating trust assertions for services that are in it's trustzone boundary. WebMethods Integration Server: The existing interceptor support for webMethods Integration Server has been extended with this release to include version 8.0.1. Additionally support has been added to provide visibility into Broker Triggers and to capture XML payloads. TransportEvaluator Support has also been added for webMethods Integration Server Broker BrokerEvent.
What's Fixed
Version 8.2.1: 20986: Attempting to delete a node after upgrading from 8.1.5 leaves AMS in an inconsistent state. 20904: Address password security vulnerability by ensuring that passwords are not visible in view source. 20568: HTTP interceptor does not set Service name as expected.
Known Issues
Configuring the Savvion plugins for the Progress Control Tower 1.1: If you have configured a default JMS transport for use with the Savvion Alert Notifier, Savvion Create Process or Savvion Complete Workstep plugins, you will have to re-specify the transport to use when you create a rule that triggers the process. To do so, select the Use Specific JMS transport radio button in the JMS Transport section of the New Monitoring Rule - Define Custom Behavior Settings page, then select the appropriate transport for the plug-in.
Actional Intermediary
New Features
Version 8.2.1: No new features.
Version 8.2: Multi-value Conditions: Multi-value Conditions provide the ability to define conditions based on a combination of message field values as well as a combination of values derived from individual message fields. This ability to derive complex conditions provides a finer control for evaluation of policies. Actional Intermediary also provides the ability to define dynamic actions that can be performed on requests as they flow through service groups. REST Services: Restful web services described by a WADL document are now supported within Actional Intermediary.
Expanded Features
Version 8.2.1: No new features. Version 8.2 Clustering: A new clustering framework was added in Actional Management Server, Actional Agent, and Actional Intermediary to synchronize configurations across cluster members and consistently ensure that cluster members are identical copies of each other at all times. DataDirect Driver Updates: DataDirect JDBC drivers have been upgraded to enable support for Windows Authentication (NTLM) for MS SQL Server and Oracle.
Security Profile 1.0 was added. This is the first phase of our implementation of the WS-I Basic Security Profile 1.0 support that will be completed in a future release.
Expanded Features
Version 8.2.1: No new features. Version 8.2 Improved Performance: This release contains load check performance enhancements that will allow improved throughput for customers running load check who regularly saturate the CPUs of the machine where Actional is running. For cases like this, Actional will be able to generate 20 to 25% more requests for load checks.
What's Fixed
Version 8.2.1: 6837: Pseudocode view for Reaction no longer shows SOAP header fields. If entered manually in XML view the header data is not saved. 6652: Unable to handle a comment block in XSD.
During the installation, if you are prompted that a newer file already exists and asked if you wish to overwrite the file, click Yes to All.
You will need the connection properties for your Mindreef SOAPscope Server database if you wish to migrate your data to Actional Team Server. Your connection properties are in the following file in your Mindreef SOAPscope Server installation: [installdir]\tomcat\webapps\sos\WEB-INF\db.properties Make a backup of your existing database. After data conversion, it can't be used by older product versions.
During installation: To upgrade a database other than Derby: When the database setup page appears, choose Connect to an existing Actional Team Server database. Make sure you have backed up your old database, enter the connection properties for that database, and proceed. To upgrade a Derby database: 1. Pick Automatically create a new database, and select Apache Derby. Keep the default name. We'll be discarding this database later. After the log-in page appears, log out, close your browser and stop the Actional Team Server service. 2. Copy the db.properties file from [Mindreef SOAPscope Server 6.x install directory]\tomcat\webapps\sos\WEB-INF\db.properties to C:\Program Files\Actional\TeamServer8\tomcat\webapps\sos\WEBINF\db.properties 3. Copy the Derby database folder and all sub-folders from C:\Program Files\Mindreef\Mindreef-Common\data\[databasename] (default name is usually Mindreef) to C:\Program Files\Actional\Actional-Common\data\[databasename] 4. Start the Actional Team Server service, and launch the Web application. The Database Upgrade page appears. Press Upgrade Database to proceed.
